Kong Survivor Instinct is a simple game with a clear mission: to make us experience the tension of being hunted by giant monsters that try to crush us by demolishing everything in their path. A mission that is overall successful, but not flawlessly. The gameplay mix has its ups and downs, also due to the stiffness of the protagonist and the less than brilliant clashes with human enemies. We really liked the dynamic backgrounds, but the experience - if nothing else, better and not a little better than the previous one on King Kong - remains of fluctuating effectiveness.
I'm thrilled that Kong: Survivor Instinct exists because the Monsterverse - and the Godzilla and Kong IPs overall, deserve more representation in the medium. This game isn't the slam dunk that I'm looking for, but it's a perfectly reasonable way for fans of the characters to spend some time in their world. While the puzzles and exploration gameplay aren't anything to write home about, they're perfectly serviceable, and a lackluster story and some flat voice acting only moderately detract from the beautiful art direction and overall environmental design. Potential players with no inherent interest in Kong or the Titans may not find that to be enough, but this is still a fun entry in what is hopefully a long line of more kaiju games to come.
Kong Survivor Instinct is an extremely simple metroidvania, but functional in its nature. It lacks structure in the narrative sector, decidedly over the top, as in the depth of the level design, but overall it turns out to be a good job.

The only difficult part of this game was the entire game because it was very difficult not to fall asleep midway. The monkey doesnt do any monkey things, the controls are sluggish and stupid and the graphics remind me of the Atari. Greedy online gachas like these disgust me to my core, where have the times gone in which you could simply play a game without needing to spend real money on in-game boosts to avoid wasting my own time grinding for 500 hours? This game is everything wrong with the games industry and whoever made this should be ashamed and have their lineage neutered.

This game proves that platform jumping doesn't have to look like it's from gaming prehistory, and it's not the prerogative of game heroes, hedgehogs, and bearded plumbers. The struggle for survival in the shadow of angry titans is impressive.

I grew up on platform games. And this title reminded me of what I love about them! Additionally, the metroidvania elements make the game interesting in terms of exploration. I completed it in about 8 hours and really had a great time. I'm not a huge fan of Kajiu, but I bought the game because of its genre and I was not disappointed! I recommend it - cool story, interesting combat system that requires some learning from the player, great graphics and surprising events.

If you are into 2D scroller games then I don't find the game to be as bad as some of the other reviews that have been given. The acting is great and the story is classic. It's a game that I don't feel is trying to reinvent any wheels or anything but I believe you can do a lot worse with your time. Especially if you are a Monsterverse fan that just enjoys seeing Kong and other monsters on your computer screen because the graphics are pretty solid. Overall enjoyed the voice actors and it's not the greatest game ever created but it's far from the worst I have ever played.

I quite like the approach of playing a human existing in this world of monstrous beasts. The sense of scale can be quite impressive and certainly makes you wonder just what it would indeed be like if these creatures existed. The general gameplay is fun enough, jumping about and breaking through walls to reach new areas. Combat is challenging enough but not too hard and even the frustrating monster events aren’t so long that they are insurmountable. A decent bit of fun for a pretty reasonable price.

Worth Playing
In the end, Kong: Survivor Instinct is a pleasant surprise when compared to the rest of the Kong-related games up to this point. The story isn't that great, but it has enough of a hook to keep players going. The platforming can be quirky, especially during the big chase sequences, but it works fine most of the time to provide some fun sections. The same can be said of the combat, which has flaws but also gives players the chance to take care of enemies in a few fun ways. The adventure isn't too long, but it is satisfying enough once the end credits roll. It isn't a sleeper hit, but it isn't a bad experience to go through for a day or two.
