Ultimately, Gex Trilogy feels like a product designed more to honor the past than to ignite a new future for the franchise. It’s a loving archival effort that will undoubtedly please those who grew up with the sarcastic lizard, but it’s unlikely to convert new fans unfamiliar with his antics. With platforming having evolved significantly since Gex’s heyday, these titles feel more like relics — albeit entertaining ones — than evergreen classics. Gex Trilogy isn’t a reinvention; it’s a digital museum exhibit. Polished just enough to be playable by today’s standards, it offers a fun — if dated — experience for retro enthusiasts and collectors. But outside of nostalgia, its appeal is limited. A charming preservation effort, not a platforming revival.

The Gex Trilogy is a mostly great re-release of the 90s cult classic. The series has been lovingly preserved for modern audiences, maintaining the gameplay, humor, dialogue, and style of Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex: Deep Cover Gecko. However, while the new bonus features are a great touch, the lack of vital quality-of-life additions and certain features from the PAL version for instance, make it a hard game to justify purchasing for $40.

GEX Trilogy is ultimately a good collection of the main GEX games, but it’s not a very good game because none of the games it collects are very fun. Those with nostalgia for the character will surely find some enjoyment in revisiting his adventures after all these years, but anyone who didn’t enjoy the character twenty five years ago will be better served checking out the many better platformers available on modern platforms.

This is a great way to play these games,. The controls have been a little improved and the native widescreen for Gex 2 and 3 works out great, with the exception of a few graphical issues that they could potentially fix in a future update. I'm not the biggest fan of the original Gex (I know that's not an unpopular opinion), but the rewind feature definitely helps things, without having to use cheats. It pretty much plays the same as the original version (or at least the PS1 version) otherwise. Gex Enter The Gecko (Gex 2) is still my favorite Gex game out of the trilogy. It is still a bit clunky, something that's quite common in 5th generation 3D games. But the controls have been a little improved. And of course the rewind and save states help out as well. Same pretty much applies to Gex 3 Deep Cover Gecko; great 3D game with some 5th gen flaws, but has been somewhat improved. The game also comes with some great extras (or Gextras, rather). Now one thing I wish they would have is autosaving. If you forget to save after beating the games, you'll have to start all over, if there's anything you forgot to do to 100% them. Otherwise, this is a great collection of games! Now I am quite nostalgic for these games and have played the PS1 games off and on for years. So take that for what you will. As a fan of Gex, I'd recommend this!

I grew up with fond memories of late nights playing the original Gex with my older sister and while I'm positive that I'm looking at these games with rose-tinted glasses and a belly full of nostalgia, it's all the same. If you're like me and have just about every one-liner permanently imbedded in your head, you will no doubt enjoy this collection and likely find it worth the price of admission but if you've never played the Gex games before, I'd think you'd be better served looking elsewhere for your next new mascot era romp. I will say that out of the three titles on offer here, I strongly believe the first Gex will always be the best and that will likely ring true for anyone who plays or has played these games.

Gex Trilogy offers easy access to the mascot trilogy that Crystal Dynamics decided to abandon in 1999. Although the games are fun, the collection falls short by not including access to different versions of each title. Furthermore, it lacks filters and extras that would justify buying this new bundle instead of opting for emulation solutions.

Though your fondness for the subject matter may vary, the Gex Trilogy is an easy recommendation for those pining to hear an outdated quip or two from a forgotten mainstay of the mascot era on modern consoles.

The games found in Gex Trilogy are better than I thought they would be. I was especially surprised by how much I enjoyed the original Gex. These are dated, but solid mascot platformers. As a package, Gex Trilogy has a lot of the modern quality of life features players would expect, as well as a slew of extras. But there could have been more. The Game Boy Color, N64, and international versions of the games are absent. I would recommend Gex Trilogy to fans of retro platformers, who’ve played all the classics. These games aren’t must-play, but are a great option for someone wanting more platforming titles in their library.

The Gex Trilogy bundles up a trio of middling to good platformers together and places them on modern platforms, with the perk of playing them with modern features like rewind, screen ratio adjustments and more. For fans of the games in their day, there’s some nostalgic fun to be found here, but if you’re new to the IP and are considering picking them up, well, in the immortal (and well-worn) words of Gex himself – Fuhgeddaboutit

Gex Trilogy is undoubtedly a fascinating time travel back to the 90's, and I can recommend the trip to nostalgics, those who have missed the character's prime time, and simply for people who are curious about the 90's. BUT: it must be emphasized that it is very much a product of its time in both look and sound (yes, not all the jokes have necessarily aged gracefully), so it’s not something I’d recommend to newcomers right off the bat.
