With a few minor tweaks to the overall approach, Fitness Boxing could have been a more engaging way to fit some exercise in. [Issue #38 – March/April 2019, p. 74]
Fitness Boxing is a better fit for me and while I may not get the body of my dreams using it, anything is better than what I'm working with now.
Fitness Boxing is an interesting title compared to others of the same genre but, despite having really bright spots, it does not meet the expectations that the title itself generates in users.

I literally bought my switch for this game when it got released.. I loved how it looked and there were lots of garbage positive reviews about it that made me convinced to buy it. After i bought it, tried to work out regularly with it, but eventually dropped for a long time, just to come back many months later and once again get too frustrated with it. And now, March 2024, here is my final review. It's, honestly, very average in every aspect. Music is too intrusive, while being very repetitive, so after some time turned it off. Movements feel somehow awkward, those combos just don't feel like legit boxing combos and the game punishes you for trying to box with rapid and swift motions as it should be, instead making you wait same fixed interval between every hit, and it feels more like a boxing-esque cardio workout about sticking to a particular linear rhythm, which is still fine when you get what this game is about. Waifus are the only aspect i liked. Items you unlock for them feel generic and not interesting, so you stop bothering very fast with dressing them up or even checking items you unlocked, but they are there at least. Each of your waifus is voiced by a different actor/actress in both English and Japanese, so i got what i asked for in that aspect, i guess. And then there is motion capture.... It's abysmal. It just doesn't work, you will fail combo after combo because it doesn't register some motions no matter how hard you try to exaggerate your hits, some motions it doesn't register at all and the only way for you to make the game to see them is to jerk-cheat your moves.. It's literally the only interactive aspect of this game. Your workouts don't feel personalized, there is no real progression, there are no real goals and rewards for achieving them, there is only the score at the end of the session that makes you feel like you are playing it rather than working out with a prerecorded video with exercises. And it just doesn't work. You will also constantly press buttons on your joysticks because they are not being blocked during a workout by the game, making you exit the game, make screenshots, some other crap, while you try to jerk your hands as if you are dancing with a maraca instead of boxing, just for this stupid game to maybe see your hits.. God, it's freaking annoying. And the overall experience of this game is all about this. I force myself to do those boring, generic workouts regularly. But one day, just get too frustrated with this experience and stop it before i break my joystick from annoyance... 0 / 10.

Does not register side step, and does not provide workarounds except cheating by shaking joycon which disrupts normal workflow. If this is a normal game software this would be perceived as a major bug.

Within its common-sense (and, thanks to Wii Fit, well-known) limitations, Fitness Boxing is a breezy, energetic success that gets your blood pumping.

I've seen some complaints about picking up the motion of punches. It does happen but very rarely. The game requires you to have pretty good form though and there isn't much room for error. For both my partner and I after a couple of weeks it picked up our punches almost perfectly and we end up with scores of around 98%. The remaining 2% is definitely us not the game! Overall it's a fun workout and after 2 months of playing about 3 times a week it's still really fun. It's like dance dance Revolution with your fists, what's not to like!

Considering that Ring Fit Adventure isn't available in my country, I found Fitness Boxing to be a good replacement. Being able to spend some energy and throw some punches during quarantine feels great. To get rid of the voice acting problem people mention here, I changed the audio to Japanese.

Fitness Boxing is a good way of training at home. It’ll make you sweat, and would work as something to complement the gym or for those looking for a more moderate exercise.

Fitness Boxing just suffers from feeling inaccurate, even more so when punches and dodges aren’t correctly registered by the Joy-Cons. It is safe to say though, Fitness Boxing is perfect for those who want to lead a healthy and active lifestyle, but if you’re looking for some casual punching fun, stick to Arms.

Fitness Boxing does its job and gets gamers on their feet and moving, but its barebone features and lack of music variety makes playing feel like a mix of chore and leisure activity.

It’s certainly light on content, light on songs, and rarely feels great to play from a video game standpoint. Yes, you can get a little workout in, but it would be nice if the Switch would accurately track movement more consistently. I think Fitness Boxing has the opposite intended effect after you whiff 3 or 4 hooks or uppercuts due to poor motion sensitivity, which in turn leads to some dejected, frustrating moments. As it stands, I wouldn’t recommend Fitness Boxing to Switch owners, at least not without some deep discounts involved.

CAVEAT- I'm writing this during the COVID-19 lockdown. This games has some problems, it's a bit hokey, the voice acting is terrible, and the songs are only so so. That said it's a fantastic workout and excellent for quarantine since it involves very little space. I've found it very effective at helping me manage my stress and I think it is a good buy. I would not rate this 10 out of 10 if we could go to gyms and stuff, but given the situation this game is amazing.

The games not too bad. Good workout, but could do with a few things improved, hopefully the sequel has these issues worked out. 1. hit detection, it needs work, i miss way too many punches due to the hit not registering. 2. because your not hitting something its easy to over extend or throw poorly pulling your shoulder or elbow, it needs a disclaimer or something suggesting you take care when throwing. Price adjustment too, there is no need for this to be a full priced title, if they had not licensed real music for the backing, it likely would have been cheaper. The games worth the investment for a workout title, but only at a deep discount, and now that number 2 is out, can probably skip this all together now, or get ring fit.

Nice idea, poor execution. The stretches are a waste of time, detection on the punches it totally hit and miss, the tech simply isn't capable of doing what it needs to do for this sort a game. The instructions aren't great either, the trainer gets her left and right mixed up constantly, there's barely anything about correct form and how much power to put in. It's just an injury waiting to happen. Avoid

The game is very light on content, the workouts are pretty ok. Though it is seriously flawed. 1. Whatever section of your body you choose in your daily workout, it seems to give you random workout plans. 2. The motion detection is very bad. It designed something it can't even consistently detect. It gets VERY frustrating. 3. Framerate is very bad. It lags so hard even my parents who never play video games could notice. The motion detection lags hard too, you never feel that you are working out but playing through a badly design mission. 4. The remixes are very bad. One of them sounds like the howling ****. 5. The voice acting is irritatingly bad. The trainers talk in very high pitched voices for the duration oi the workout. Overall, it's fine if you are very determined to work out every day, then wait for a sale. if you are casual, then don't get it.
