Simply the best the GBA has offered so far. With an engaging plot, a deep gameplay system that allows for as much customisation as any handheld RPG, and a length that is ridiculously good value, there really is no excuse not to own this game.

A great RPG strong on replay value (the item trading and link-up systems are particularly handy) with great visuals and art style to match (Akihiko Yoshida's character designs have never been better). [Oct 2003, p.79]

If a dictionary definition of "just-another-go" gameplay is ever to be written, this game will have to be featured as an example; and if a list of the best handheld games ever made is written, we'd expect to see this very near the top.

This was my first favorite video game ever, others call it a downgrade from Final Fantasy Tactics, and while that may be true in some aspects i really liked having different races and a more portable pick up and play game-play loop. Battles can feel a little slow and restrictive due to the law system but its a turn based tactics game, you either love them or hate them, and FFTA is a great spot to jump into the genre. I found the story to be unique and interesting in a good way. You're kind of the villain of the story, but its also ones perspective: Some want to live in a dream world where their life doesn't ****, when the main character wants to return to reality. Its unfortunate that this game is trapped on the GBA, in my most recent play-through via an emulator i lost my entire progress right before the final battle so that hurt. I still own my game cartridge but no longer own the proper hardware </3 Overall a great game on the GBA that shines in the shadow of the JRPG giant's catalogue of side projects. Highly Recommend

The big improvement over the PlayStation game is the laws that govern each battlefield... It helps diversify the battles quite a bit and keeps things interesting.

Not only is this game incredibly deep, but for a strategy fan like myself, it is addictive enough to destroy your social life. [Sept 2003, p.124]

I wish I could go back in time and get the Judge and Rabbit guy on my team, I needed like 1 more quest for them which required a link to my friend, and I'll never get that chance now. Legendary game.

To be frankly honest - this game is just too easy. Instead of giving players a limited number of rounds to revive fallen allies, you can leave them be as they no longer will turn to crystals and are removed from your party within two to three rounds.

A great followup to the original "Final Fantasy Tactics," though somoe design decisions are questionable. [Fall 2003, p.36]

FFTA may be more a parallel title to the PSone game than a true sequel but that doesn't mean it can't borrow and build upon the original's well-laid foundations, which it does with aplomb. [Nov 2003, p.109]

The game starts slow, a feeling exacerbated - or perhaps caused - by the easiness of the battles. But you'll play it and play it. Every time you try to stop you're just one battle away from mastering that skill, for earning that new job. [Dec 2003, p.105]

I have so much fun every time I play this game. Everything about it, from the story to the gameplay, is just amazing. I enjoyed every moment while playing this game

A very pretty turn-based strategy game set within the world of the early Final Fantasy series. Basically it's an RPG that concentrates on combat rather than storytelling and exploration which makes it a little lacking in depth, but it's a nicely chilled out bit of adventuring that's probably not for RPG purists.

Todo iba bien hasta que me dí cuenta que la historia es testimonial y de que las normas de los jueces son un gran inconveniente para el progreso satisfactorio del jugador. Me dió tanta pereza que lo dejé a la mitad.

If you got this game expecting anything like the original Final Fantasy Tactics on PlayStation, you will probably be disappointed. This game plays more like tactics ogre than FFT. It is also a bit slow and the story is not as riveting. The gameplay is where it feels different though. I really hope they go back to FFT and not FFTadvance when making a future Tactics game. (Edit, in hindsight my review is probably not that great due to the fact that I was expecting something as good as the original Final Fantasy Tactics. This game might be good to you if you haven't had that one to compare it to, or for really small children that are new to this type of thing.) If you want a Final Fantasy Tactics experience and haven't played the original in a while, I would just recommend playing that one instead.

Ok. I see many people seem to like SE game just ... just "Because"! This is one of the LAMEST game i've ever played, one of the biggest disappointment in the whole saga. The game is so very limited in so many ways beginning from characted cast, starring soul-less kids that enter a magic realm, very much similar to the clichè used in many book for kids, but far less complex. Seems like SE's fan once again, struggled hard to find any meaning into the story that to me, and i hope i'm not the only one, is just meaningless garbage with absolutely no drama, no intensity and no pathos. The battle system is a complete mess, with judge system being way more annoying than fun. The whole thing is packed and a complete downgrade if you want to compare to the previous game from this serie ( Final Fantasy Tactics for psx). My vote overall would be a 6-, voting ' because it's a real shame to see this game having an average score of 9.1.
