Dragon Shelter offers a charming world filled with beautifully designed dragons and plenty to discover, making it an enjoyable experience overall. However, bugs, limited saving options, and some rough translations still take away from the experience and could use more polish.

Screen Hype
I’m giving Dragon Shelter 5/10. While it’s playable, it does not feel polished enough for a 1.0 release. Right now, it still feels like it’s in beta. The fact that the developers announced a patch just four days after release makes me hopeful they’ll address some of these problems, but I don’t believe one patch will fix all the errors and design issues. There is something here worth building on; I just wish I had found more of it during my time with the game.

The Wand Report
For all its potential, Dragon Shelter is too invested in copying previous games in the genre to build an identity of its own. Abandoning its best mechanic, it hopes instead that cute dragons and a devotion to mundane tasks will distract from its lack of substance.

Gameliner
On all fronts, the game feels like an Early Access title, but it isn't. The idea of fixing up a village and a compact farming sim appealed to me, but the gameplay built around it is simply not enough. You are constantly cooking to feed the residents and complete all tasks. You can't just go exploring or do something else, which means you sometimes simply go to bed to skip a day. The focus is on the visual style and the dragons, and I have to compliment the developers on that. It is a shame, however, that the new interface doesn't maintain the same theme and that the menus and gameplay elements aren't always explained very well. Add to that the many bugs and substandard dialogue, and unfortunately, you have a game that didn't make me happy. And that happens to be the entire goal of Dragon Shelter: to bring joy to a depressed village.
