A relentlessly inventive game worth the price of entry...The experience is flawed -- some might say hampered -- by the save system and curiously designed game structure. But whether you 'get it' or not, Dead Rising nevertheless provides a wealth of secrets and mysteries for both eager gamers and the adventuresome.

A unique, inventive, and fun game that youll most likely want to play and own due to its huge amount of replayability from random slash-a-thons to side quests and item discovery; you can spend a whole lot of time in this game. Then again if the save system and RPG leveling system turn you off you might be better off renting it first.

The astounding level of variety that is packed into the game is wonderful to see.

[copied from my old account] this game is quite honestly, gold. Not only is it a fantastic zombie-crusher, but like its sequel, it’s also rather funny, too. This game doesn’t take itself seriously in the combat side of things and that’s what gives it such a charm. There’s really nothing like whacking a zombie in the face with a mannequin. I also quite like the photo-taking aspect of this game, as it adds quite a bit to the already hilariously fun gameplay and fantastic storyline loop. 10/10, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s as much of a fan of zombie media as myself. However, I must say, that helicopter dudes face is rather….demented? It’s both a weird, yet hysterical introduction to the game.

A flawed classic. Capcom's comical zombie game is fun, but the "timer" aspect is a frustrating one. Also the friendly A.I. is terrible. The survivors you try to rescue will die on their own accord. Still this is a must-have for players that love "Resident Evil" and "Grand Theft Auto". I'd rate it with an 8.3 out of 10.

The spaced out save points create a wonderfully rare sense of dread. You'll want to stock up on inventory and weapons before attempting a particularly difficult passage. And you're not always secure whether you're going to make it. This is where Dead Rising's sandbox zombie killing comes into its own.

A triumphant survival horror blockbuster with strong replay appeal, but some players will lack the patience to cope with its considerable demands.

The amount of zombies in the game of the 2006 time period is revolutionary. The abilities you unlock keep the game fun and don’t get me started on the weapons. Everything and anything is a weapon from park benches to heavy machine guns. Bowling balls, ketchup, cds, toy swords and frisbees. The possibilities are endless.
The bosses of the game are known as “psychopaths” and are quite a bunch of characters. My favourites are Cliff and Adam both memorable characters. Adam being a clown who has gone insane and Cliff being a War veteran pushed to the edge by the death of his granddaughter who still believes he is in the War. The depth of the characters are make the game great.
I highly recommend picking this game up and playing it. The game really is astonishing.

In many ways, however, Dead Rising surpasses "Resident Evil" in terms of providing pure excitement without cheap "dog smashing through a window" tricks. Though flawed in many areas, Dead Rising is a thoroughly entertaining zombie-smashing experience.

Once you look beyond the mindless killing and embark on the other styles of play the game allows then you are left with something far more fulfilling.

Part platformer, part pure action, part open-world adventure, there are a number of ways to enjoy Dead Rising.

Though Dead Rising pulls its inspiration from the George Romero classic Dawn of the Dead, the expected hokiness of the plot and dialogue is surprisingly absent (same for any obvious social commentary).

Like many zombie flicks in history, this is for a cult audience only. It's a genuine shame but it just isn't very good.

Fantastic game. Literally my favorite game of all time. From the atmosphere to story, to psychopaths, this game is so damn good. Being able to use almost anything you see as a weapon is and the amount of zombies on screen at once is absolutely huge for 2006. Also the mall music is phenomenal, can’t stop listening to it.

I think the biggest advantage of this game is it's uniqueness, the strange mechanics and features that you won't find in any other game. And don't forget about it's ridiculousness (psychopaths and unique humour). I would recommend it everyone, but I know that many people don't like to replay the game and Dead Rising almost (because it's very very hard, but possible to do everything in one run) forces you to replay it.

I'm not sure how to take Dead Rising, I will start by saying I didn't complete this game, I found killing zombies gets a little boring after a short time but saying that I do remember this game, I remember it for zombie killing being fun unlike left 4 dead or dead island, also I recently bought the second game with no intention of completing it, I bought it just to have fun killing zombies. I don't really understand modern pop cultures obsession with zombies, between Dawn of the Dead and Shaun of the Dead all the story that can be had out of the zombies has been extracted. So the story was something I was not interested in from the start, also I found the boss fights incredibly hard but maybe I'm just crap. At the end of the day I see saw real potential within this game and I think it can appeal to a wide audience who would be more patient with it than me and enjoy the story. I do recommend having a Dead Rising title in your 360 collection (for the right price, like under £5) even if it's just to pick up now and then just to cave in some zombie skull but despite the game being memorable and fun it's all very short lived and is only worth playing in 20 minute spurts every blue moon so I can't say it belongs with any gaming greats, I can't even say it's good just average.

I found this game fun for the first week but it went downhill from there. Forgetting to save was a BIG problem especially after of hours of play, which led me to think that they (the developers) never had enough time to implant an auto save after each mission. Good game but gets boring after a while after you get used to the cheesiness.
SummaryDead Rising follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on a hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to a small suburban town only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. He escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be a bastion of safety b... Read More
