Serviceable co-op romp which goes out of its way to irritate. [July 2013, p.72]
The combat and weapons are fun and the levelling systems keep things interesting and give an air of replayability to the title if your Xbox is starting to get a little dusty. If we see a third instalment though, the game needs to step up a little to keep up with the competition.
Dead Island: Riptide is an unnecessary addition to the franchise and it has nothing to offer when compared to the first title of the series. Two years was a long time for a company like Techland to improve upon the experience of Dead Island, but nothing was done about it.

This game better than splatoon3 I spent 4 hours looking for the guns and never found them, threw 300 knives into big bazza's forehead, got jumpscared by ping ping's dialogue, and laughed at the zero wing reference. good geme

Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition attempts to build on the foundations of its predecessor but falls short in several critical areas, resulting in an experience that feels both repetitive and **** of the most significant drawbacks of Dead Island Riptide is its extreme repetitiveness. The gameplay loop quickly becomes monotonous, with players often finding themselves performing the same types of quests and fighting the same kinds of enemies over and over again. This lack of variety can make the game feel like a grind, diminishing the overall enjoyment and sense of progression. The story in Dead Island Riptide is another weak point. It is basic and lacks the depth and engagement needed to keep players invested. The narrative fails to evolve in a meaningful way, offering little more than a backdrop for the action rather than a compelling reason to keep pushing forward. This simplicity in the plot is disappointing, especially considering the potential for rich storytelling in a post-apocalyptic setting.Additionally, there is a poor connection to the story of the first game. Dead Island Riptide struggles to integrate its narrative with that of its predecessor, leaving players who are familiar with the original feeling disconnected and unsatisfied. The continuity issues and lack of coherent story progression make it difficult to see Riptide as a true continuation, instead feeling more like a standalone expansion with loose ties to the first game.

Despite its propensity for insignificant plot points, I can’t wait to play Dead Island Riptide again. I’ll return for the desperate bid for survival, and stay for the stories that emerge as a result.

I seriously love Dead Island Riptide for its satisfying zombie dismemberment and co-op, but technically, it's done nothing to build itself into a great game.

This game is a great improvement over it's predecessor from 2011. The developers have fixed most of the bugs that have carried over from Dead Island 1 however some still remain but do not effect the complete game. This game is amazing, I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in Zombies.

Despite the new enemies and other additions, Dead Island: Riptide feels too much like more of the same. Techland had the opportunity to fix many of the flaws of the first game - bad story, technical glitches, repetitiveness - but they did almost nothing about it.

It’s a shame that Riptide couldn’t have been a bit more given how much opportunity there was here for improvement, but as it stands, it’s basically the same flawed game we got nearly two years ago — for better or for worse.

There are zombies? Really? I don’t care. I’d rather die than to stay on the beautiful island Panai where all I can do is participate in a boring fight for survival, filled with collectable overkill and horrible quest design.

Even ignoring all those failings – something at which Dead Island fans will have had plenty of practice – Riptide’s biggest flaw is that it never justifies its existence in terms of plot or new ideas. It’s not simply yesterday’s game, but a time capsule from 2011, a time when zombies weren’t as overplayed and games such as Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2 weren’t around to cast their long shadows over the action.

This game takes every thing the first one was and turns it up to 11! If you loved the first one the Second one is a no brainer to get. New Weapons? Check. New Zombies? Check! The visuals are amazing and the island is beautiful. And the multiplayer set up is amazing if you have a blutooth! Do it, get it!

I don't understand why publisher's these days get to keep releasing games for $50-60 and they're not done, polished or QCd. After playing this game for a few minutes the sound completely dropped out. Dashboarding helped that problem, but when my friend who was playing had the same thing happen at the same point that seems to be a glaring problem. Also zombies respawn in thin air, if you're fighting in the water the game slows down to a crawl and I could go on and on.
