Dark Souls III is the latest effort in a formula refined to the maximum extent possible. One of the most elaborate and important games so far this year, which will mark a before and after in the history of this kind of games.
OVERVIEW: Dark Souls III is the conclusion to the incredible "Dark Souls" trilogy of games created by Fromsoftware. While this is an incredible expectation for the game to live up to, Dark Souls III not only delivers but hugely exceeds expectations. Dark Souls III is the most polished and evolved game in the series and has some of the most memorable bosses and moments in gaming history. GAMEPLAY: 10/10 - All games by Fromsoftware have incredible but simple gameplay, however besides Elden Ring and Elden Ring Nightreign, Dark Souls III has the most polished and cohesive gameplay out of all of them. The combat feels smooth and responsive and the exploration is compelling. STORY: 10/10 - SOUNDTRACK: 10/10 - Dark Souls III has a very strong soundtrack with very memorable pieces. In particular a song that stands out to me and most people who play the game is the theme for the boss "Soul of Cinder". This piece is a stand out track in it's own right, but it also masterfully calls back to Dark Souls I in a way that is certain to bring out emotion in anyone who plays through the whole trilogy. CHARACTERS: 9/10 - Dark Souls characters are always hard to review since they aren't as big of a part as they are in most typical games, however the ones you do meet throughout your journey are greatly written with amazing questlines to follow. GRAPHICS/VISUALS: 10/10 - Dark Souls III still looks incredible despite being nearly 10 years old at the time of writing. While some individual textures may look rough if you look closely, the entire image that the game presents you with is still jaw dropping every time I revisit the game. CUTSCENES: 8/10 - There aren't too many cutscenes throughout Dark Souls III, however the few in the game that do exist are memorable and get across what they need to. Overall, Dark Souls III is an incredible game that I would recommend to anyone who plays games, especially if they have played any of the Dark Souls games or "souls-likes" before. It still holds up very well in 2025 and I'm certain it will beyond that.
Dark Souls III is all-consuming, it’ll drive you up the wall, and the sense of accomplishment you’ll get when everything clicks and you go on to finish that final boss... well, it’s simply beyond compare [June 2016, p70]
While it’s still impossible on a personal level for me to admit that any of Dark Souls’ siblings could better it, when taken as a whole, complete experience, Dark Souls III may be the best chapter of the Souls series that From Software has crafted. A fitting way to end, if that will indeed be the fate of the franchise.
Though technically iffy, Dark Souls 3 is yet another example of how worlds should be built: interlocking, beautiful, and interesting. The combat feels quick and fresh, and despite a few bosses that feel unfair, it's a glorious return to form for the series.
Glaring and recurring technical flaws aside, the game goes back to its roots in both story and gameplay, and will certainly help fans wash the bad taste of Dark Souls II out of their mouths. I can’t wait to see what From has in store for Dark Souls 4.
In so many important ways — its world design, its pacing, the technology powering it — Dark Souls 3 falls short of the mark. Do you play for the joy and stress of exploring dangerous, intricately crafted places full of hidden elements and endless side paths? Then I suspect you'll join me in being a little let down with the direction this sequel has gone in.
Weakest soulsborne game. It's the dodge-roll simulator boss rush personified. Dark Souls 3 lacks atmosphere, innovation, immersive level design, cohesiveness and is too fan-servicey. A lot of areas are reused assets from Bloodborne and some of the bosses are straight up bad. This game gets a good rep for its bosses but in truth there's 2 bad bosses for every good one. You can tell Miyazaki was forced to make this game due to the backlash of DS2 but he flopped pretty hard on this one.
Buen juego, la verdad. Es una copia un poco triste de Elden ring, pero bueno. Esta bien divertido, excepto por el pequeño detalle de perder la cordura muriendo durante horas y horas para pasarte UN jefe. Por lo demás un juego aceptable
