For me, this didn't age well. Specially when you got things like Galaga DX.

Cotton 100% is a remake of shrump released in 1994 for the Super NES and is the second game from the popular series. The remake has everything most modern remakes have these days, including rewinding, cheats and more. The first thing first, I have never played the original Cotton games, so I basically came into this blind not knowing what to expect from the game. Like Panorama Cotton, Cotton 100%’s story is all in Japanese, but from what I gathered about the game, it is set before Panorama when the young witch must do something else. Once again, the story doesn’t play a big part in this game. The main goal for Cotton 100% is to shoot all the enemies on the screen and get to the other screen, beat a boss, then rinse and repeat. If you have played any other side-scrolling shooter or bullet hell, then you know what to expect. This is by no way a bad thing as players will know what to expect. You will either love this game or hate it, and it all depends on how much you love the bullet hell genre. One of the biggest problems I have with the bullet hell genre is that I am bad at them. I don’t think there has been a single one that I have finished without unlimited lives or a manner of other features, and Cotton 100% is no different as it includes the life-saving rewind found in most modern remakes and save and load states. I love that modern remakes have these features, or else I would never be able to finish one of these games. I wouldn’t say this was one of the harder bullet hells I have played, but it did still help to have those features as I feel as though I have come accustomed to them. If you have never played a bullet hell game, then it is a good idea to start with some of the pioneers in the genre. Cotton 100% is fun and won’t take longer than an hour for most players to complete. Newer players may have trouble, but luckily the game offers difficulty settings and more to make the game easier for some. Again, this is more on the accessible side of most bullet hells, as I found it to be less hectic than others. This could be because bullets aren’t bombarding the screen or that I was playing on easy, but either way, I had a fun time with the game. Cotton 100%, like most in this genre, doesn’t offer a lot in replayability unless players are looking to challenge themselves. Players that aren’t looking to challenge themselves with outlandish scores and crazy antics can get about an hour or two’s worth of fun from this, and if they like the genre, the price would be worth the admission. For players looking for something more may need to look elsewhere as the game might be a tad expensive for most. Cotton 100% is a fun bullet hell, especially for fans of the genre. If you are looking to get into the genre, this may not be it, but nonetheless, it is a great time, and most players will enjoy their time with the game, no matter their experience level. Cotton 100% is available on PS4 and Switch either digitally or physically from Strictly Limited. A review code for Cotton 100% was provided by Ratalaika Games.
