If you want to break way from the regular FPS drones and try something old-fashioned yet refreshing, then give Bodycount a go – you'll be surprised how much fun mindless shooting can be.

A boldly simple shooter with great innovations and colourful visuals, let down by a lack of story. [Nov 2011, p.92]

While its limited multiplayer and even more limited AI will keep it from being as legendary as, well, the other A-list stuff, it's still worth a look, mainly because of its entertaining weapons play and its solid visuals. If you're in the mood for an off-the-grid shooter or just want to blow shit up while you wait for EA's masterstroke, lock and load.

Deep in its heart Bodycount is a great arcade action game with some really good shooting mechanics - but when it comes to all the little extras that make a game special, it fails. The aiming system just doesn't feel right, there is no working mechanic to make the player feel the current health for his character, the score system fails to make you wanna replay the missions and so on. The really good and nicely exaggerated spy story in the background doesn't help much either - it's told in a totally boring and underwhelming way.

Bodycount is, at its core, still a fun FPS. It's nice to look at and has enough enemies to keep you interested, as long as you like blastin' fools and wreckin' buildings. While the $60 asking price is a bit hard to swallow, it is well worth an eventual bargain bin pickup.

A quite decent FPS, which misses the target on several counts. You can break stuff, but not enough and there's some arcade elements, but not enough. [Oct 2011]

If you can [ignore the storyline], Bodycount offers a six hour burst of relentless explosions. It's short, but the big levels bear replaying, and a co-op survival mode and deathmatch arenas make good use of those sizey maps. For lovers of spectacle over nuance, Bodycount is a great way to build bad virtual karma.

As it stands this is a game that's quirky and fun, offering a welcome change from what we've come to expect from the genre, but ends up trying too hard to be smart and misses the target with many of its peripheral ideas.

Aside from the enjoyable and well-weighted multiplayer, pretty much everything around that core experience of destroying things with big weapons is flaky. Big time flaky. But thankfully, happiness really is a warm gun, even if it is on the 50th respawn before that damn warehouse.

There's nothing really bad about it, but nothing really exemplary, either.
