While admittedly not everyone's cup of tea, this is a stellar roguelike with slick animation, hours of progression through it's various upgrades and for those who love fighting games, but unfortunately **** at them like myself, it offers the same adrenaline rush of those rare pvp victories.

Finally a good use for the Blazblue IP now that that **** hack Mori has been fired and can't make his awful gooner fighting games.

Even underutilizing the rich narrative universe from which it borrows iconic characters, BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is simply brilliant, overcoming the sameness that the roguelite genre has been sinking into in recent years by betting on a sharp, dynamic, and adaptive gameplay system. The diversity of characters and the cycle of entry and exit strike a rare balance between temporary bonuses and permanent improvements, which becomes a genuine invitation to an adventure that, within the precepts of the genre, knows how to seduce, keep interest high, and reward the player.

It also handles long-term play fatigue and freshness well: the Legacy Talent system lets players carry builds forward between runs, while the highly customizable Chaos and Extreme difficulty options add challenge to offset repetition in the later stages.

Even though I'm not familiar with the story or history of BlazBlue I had a very fun time with Entropy Effect X. It is genuinely fun to play, offering a loop of combat that is as challenging as it is visually stunning. The large Roster of very different characters and the interplay of the Legacy system make every run feel like a new experiment in breaking the game's limits. And the Entropy system unlocked upon winning a run lets you push the difficulty as hard as you can.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect X is a highly addictive action-roguelike with slick, responsive combat and plenty of playstyle variety, boosted by a smart skill-inheritance system. While the visual overload and forgettable techno-babble story can distract at times, the rock-solid gameplay is the real star: and it absolutely delivers.
