A decent tribute to From Software's masterpiece, elevated by its co-op mechanics.

Ashen now holds the dubious honor of being the first game I couldn’t bring myself to finish before posting a review. Well done, Ashen — you broke me. It’s just a shame you didn’t do it in a more interesting or cleverly-designed manner.

There’s challenge here in both combat and your patience with the game’s economy system (and in its slow movement), but mastering both and even jumping in with a buddy means you’re in for a gorgeous treat. Our eyes are firmly locked on what A44 does next, especially if they stick to this wonderful new IP and build on it as a franchise-in-waiting. Well worth your time and Dollerydoos in our humble, Aussie opinion.

Amazing game, I had a lot of fun with it. One of the easier "souls-like" games I've played, but still challenging enough to punish you if you're not careful or you play braindead just running in. There's a lot of bonuses to aid you in your journey. Side quests & finding collectables will increase your health & stamina, relics & talismans have different perks/bonuses to fit your playstyle, also you have NPC helper who actually can be a life saver, & huge help, especially on the final boss. Overall this game isn't too difficult, even the bosses are simple, the final boss is the only real challenge where you'll feel like giving up, took me 4 attempts & i probably died 10 times total in the game to give you some perspective on how hard she is. The trek back to her is brutal too. I hate when games make an OP final boss, also this game could have used a sell item system instead of collecting so much junk in your storage, glad there wasn't a weight limit system though.

I can understand it gets good reviews, it's playable, fluid, those poor graphics actually work. BUT there's no level up. U can upgrade the stuff a bit and get some stat increase progressing into the game. There is no point copying Dark Souls if u change the balance removing more than half of the gameplay options. Or it needs rebalancing to match the poverty and the bugs. In this state it's just constantly annoying. II see no reason to settle for a Wish version of Dark Souls. If u have one, go for it

Co-op é bastante divertido, simples e direto. Aguardo por um Ashen 2 com melhoria gráfica.

Ashen subverts expectations. It manages to take the Souls genre, deconstruct it and make it feel originally its own. From the art style to the lovingly-crafted areas you venture through, you can tell that this was a passion project for the development team at A44. Slight performance issues aside, Ashen is a wonderful action role-playing game that respects the player’s desire to explore. It’s some of the most fun I’ve had with my Xbox One this year and well worth the time of anyone who is a fan of the genre, as well as a great entry point for those who are curious – a true independent gem.

For a hack and slash game that adapts the traits of a Dark Souls, to focus on the formation and cultivation of bonds between characters, Ashen is a game that came out of nowhere to positively surprise me. Despite the technical glitches, the grinding and the dying, I found the game beautiful to behold, angelic to listen to, and a story that delivers a tremendous punch. A44 did a tremendous job developing a game that is worth every penny of the $39.99 asking price. It goes without saying that if you're a fan of adventure games, hack and slash games, or Souls type games, then Ashen needs to be on your must buy list.

O jogo é bom mas tem um grau dificuldade meio alto. Vc precisa ter paciência porque vai morrer várias vezes, principalmente nos chefes. Pra chegar nos chefes já é difícil quando chega fica pior.

Ashen is a very interesting take on the Dark Souls subgenre, with great dungeons, great bosses and a very satisfying progression system.

Ironically, although Ashen is one of the better Souls-like games, its strengths emerge the more it deviates from the template. With a distinctive art style and approach to co-op, base-building and character interaction, Ashen suffers in those areas in which its Souls model outshines it: fluid and varied combat being the most obvious area. Taken apart from its inspiration, though, Ashen is still an entertaining and elegant experience.

Tense souls-like with a polarizing artdesign and technical flaws that stop it in its tracks.

Ashen is one of the best soulslike experiments, but again, From Software is still hard to beat.

A neat take on the Soulslike genre with a unique aesthetic and some enticing exploration thrown in. Combat is a little more welcoming but does have that famous difficulty in some areas.

I got to the 3rd dungeon in Ashen and my coop partner kept falling off cliffs or something like 6 straight times. It became too frustrating as I need him to delve deeper. Game(s) like: Dark Souls Pros: - The combat and design were fine overall - Movement was fluid Cons: - Frustrating coop experience that makes it difficult if the CPU is gone - Tried to beat a subtask but apparently you had to beat the 3rd dungeon first. No indication in the game this was the case. - Wasn't a huge fan of the art style

Conscious graphical style of bland and faded. Greys and browns. Interesting at first, but falls apart quickly. But really it all comes down to the combat, which is slow, clunky, unforgiving, and very, very unfun.
SummaryAshen is a 3rd person, action RPG about forging relationships. You are a lone wanderer in a sunless land. The only light to be had sputters from an age-old lantern at your side. There is a rumble in the distance, and then a light. Through leaking eyes you make out a peak on the horizon, choking the land in a cloud of ash. Nothing ever sh... Read More
