Good Boys8

I found this movie to be a lot more lighthearted than its trailer implies. The movie is not nearly as vulgar as is suggested, though still quite a bit. The ending of the movie comes with a fantastic message for kids and teenagers alike. Although not particularly a movie for kids, it harkened me back to the day that I was a kid through its fantastic representation of child life and struggles. The jokes are fresh and funny, along the lines of Superbad and other alike comedies. The acting is also spot on for such young actors, they've done a fantastic job for what I assume is their first movie. I would recommend this to anyone that wants both a laugh and a few heartfelt moments, in line with Seth Rogen's signature style.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark8

Guillermo Del Toro is truly one of the greatest masterminds when it comes to horrifying imagery. The book has so many terrifying monsters that Del Toro has absolutely done justice for. Not a moment during the movie was I bored until the end, the rest of the movie is tense and surprising to the core. The performances are very good; the teenagers they got to act are much better than, say, the kids from Stranger Things. The movie takes bold turns, with unexpected twists to shock you at every turn. I found the plot, however, to be very similar to It (Chapter 1). Also, the final act is unfortunately anticlimactic and predictable, which really makes this movie lose its steam; because otherwise, it was fantastic. I recommend it to any horror fans; I was scared way more than I expected to be.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw8
Aug 7, 2019
This might just be the best of the Fast and Furious films (which is not saying a lot). However, this one manages to blend humour, action and heart in a way that none of its predecessors could. Fun cameos from Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds provide some funny moments, but most importantly the chemistry between the two leads (technically three) is very enjoyable. It really looks like the actors are having fun, not just for the movie. The dialogue between the leads is laugh out loud funny at times. The action of the movie is also very outlandish, but it's part of the fun. It's hard to take the movie seriously, but the heart is definitely there. I feel like a better villain than Idris Elba could've been chosen. Elba does great in his role but he's just too likable to be a villain, I never feel truly scared or on edge. Also, the movie is plain predictable, from the start. Aside from its flaws, the movie was very well done and I hope they put the Fast and Furious series to rest and begin making more Hobbs and Shaw.

God, this movie was slow. The 2.5 hour runtime is crazy long for what it is. Though the acting is good, the only relief is Will Poulter's clever one-liners and decent acting. The rest of the movie is steaming garbage. Everybody in the theatre laughed at what scenes were meant to be horrifying, and the weird premise is so off-putting. There is no plot twist that isn't foreseeable from the beginning. This film is not nearly as good as Hereditary and should be skipped. If the boredom doesn't get you first, the laughable writing will.

The Dead Don't Die8
Jun 28, 2019
Probably one of the best comedies I've seen this year. Found it to be very deadpan, making it very funny. The acting from most cast members is amazing, especially Bill Murray, Adam Driver and Tilda Swinton. The movie is definitely very strange and the characters are fresh and quirky. This is exactly what you would want out of an indie movie. Aside from some of the good, the plot-holes make it slightly less enjoyable. The movie suffers from unfinished plot lines, but it does a fantastic job of switching in-between the 5-6 different groups of characters in the movie. The action is well-done also, for a B-movie. Overall, if you don't mind the endless cliffhanger that some of the groups of characters get, you will love the movie.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters4
Jun 16, 2019
I must admit that I was quite disappointed in this movie. It was not nearly what it promised. Barely any of the monsters were actually shown and the story was practically non-existent. The former movie (Godzilla 2014) did a far more fantastic job of what this movie failed at. There was barely any action in the entire movie as a whole and the dialogue was cheesy and boring. A couple of vibrant characters made the movie good (props to Bradley Whitford), but overall the movie was bland and boring with actors who looked like they'd never been on a movie before. Sad moments felt funny and comedic moments were just cringe-worthy. For a movie with such high production value, it was certainly lackluster. The CGI, even, was laughably bad; even compared to the 2014 Godzilla. I'm hoping for a more exciting take on Godzilla with the next movie. Still very unfortunate how this one turned out, but the movie leaves me with just enough hope that it hasn't been entirely ruined.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum9
May 19, 2019
This movie was a fantastic addition to two already-great movies. The action goes absolutely unparalleled to anything I've seen. The violence is insanely gruesome but it makes the movie so much better. The plot is furthered even more than before, making the story even more convoluted. The performances (minus a couple) are amazing and done by some very good actors. It sets itself up for yet another sequel in the best way possible. The first and final few scenes in the hotel are some of the best action scenes I've seen in John Wick movies. The choreography for the one on one fight scenes must've taken a great deal of skill. All in all, if you liked the first 2 movies; you'll love this one. Definitely my favorite of the 3 and I am excited to see more.

Certainly one of the better Stephen King movies out there. It has incredible acting, especially by Jason Clarke. The atmosphere is chilling and creepy; I found myself scared not so much from the jump-scares but the atmosphere itself. The movie was utterly suspenseful and horrifying during certain scenes, but I found myself a little disappointed by the end. A lot of the plot was underdeveloped, too many loose ends and the ending was a bit anti-climactic. Also, most of the movie was completely predictable after watching the trailer. You know exactly what's going to happen after seeing any trailer for the movie. However, it was well done and definitely worth a watch if you're looking to be creeped out.

Shazam!8

This is a very well-done family film. It's funny, has a good message and was action packed to the core. Zachary Levi was a good choice of actor to fill the role of the hero and as always, Mark Strong makes for a terrifying villain. Think of it as Deadpool for kids. It's got a diverse cast and for once, the child actors aren't terrible. The special effects are also top-notch. Easily one of the best DCEU movies since the Batman trilogy. Hoping that the sequel is just as good! It definitely set itself up well for one.

I am not quite sure why everyone seems to love this movie. I was a huge fan of Get Out, so I had to go see this, naturally, assuming it would be just as good as its predecessor. I was unfortunately hit with a movie that garnered more laughs from the audience than scares. The plot was more of a mockery, like Scream or Scary Movie and that's not at all what Peele intended it to be. The performances were good (Particularly from Nyong'o) and the soundtrack was stellar, just like Get Out. Sadly, this can't make up for a boring, unoriginal plot. The movie was not very engaging, but it had its memorable moments and it wasn't absolutely awful. Honestly, Annihilation is a similar but much better movie than this, so I recommend watching that instead.

Captain Marvel7

I personally thought this was one of the better Marvel movies as of late. Samuel L. Jackson's performance and character more than make up for the lackluster acting and character of Brie Larson in the titular role. The origin story is well made and ties up a lot of plot holes that everyone was wondering. The action sequences are well thought out as well. Unfortunately, the villains are also very lackluster (despite one) and this makes the fight sequences significantly less exciting. Hopefully Captain Marvel is a better character in the next Avengers movie.
