This is the current pinnacle in video gaming graphics and I am not only talking about rendering and effects. One has to really come up close to the TV screen and navigate the gameplay environment closely and attentively. Only then will you see the sheer amount of effort put into creating every piece of the graphical environment in detail not yet surpassed by any games I've seen. Well done Naughty Dog.

This is the way remakes should be made. Well done. My only gripe is some of the music could have been more punctual like the original but not bad at all.

This is one of my favourite titles on PS3. Hideo Kojima has a sharp eye for details in games and one gets to appreciate this in MGS4. There is an insane level of detail given to everything from the menu, through the movie like cutscenes and to the gameplay itself. It is a unique experience on the PS3 and one you should not skip over. The environments are greatly varied and you'll find them a pleasure to see.

Fortunately Remedy have not flopped when they released Max Payne 2. For them the flop (if one can call it a flop at all) was second series of games, Alan Wake. Let's just call it a decline. For me I expected higher level of character insight and relation to the protagonist I've enjoyed with Max Payne 1 & 2. Alan Wake did not intrigue me with the story line and the main protagonist did not capture my attention. I understand Remedy spent more time on the gameplay mechanics/atmosphere and an attempt at TV series episodic release schedule (something nobody has still pulled off in video game industry). In my opinion they should have focused on storyline a little more. One of the good things I've discovered during this game is original The Twilight Zone series which inspired the ingame TV series Night Springs. Atmosphere in this game is omnipresent and deep, you will find yourself in an "ecosystem" of interleaved and interrelated themes that creates an ingame world that Remedy have mastered over the years. Lastly I'd like to thank Remedy for securing a PC release of this game. Would it not be for Xbox we would have seen a PC port much earlier. PC realm is where Remedy originally come from so I am glad to see they have delivered for their dedicated fan base.

One of the games people grew up on in the late 1990s. Gordon Freeman is a memorable character however time has not done him well as he had no voice acting associated with him so all that remains is a blocky character render and a few paintings. Today it appears Valve are busy enough with Steam to give Half-Life series serious focus. HL1 was a stepping stone in storytelling first person shooters and varied environment interactivity (eg. physics puzzles).

Heavy Rain: Move Edition

I do not understand why reviewer/user scores flip flop when you look at the Move vs Standard edition of this game on Metacritic. Regardless this is one of the more original titles you'll come around to. One can see how David Cage's experience with this game has helped QuanticDream in Beyond Two Souls. Looking back at the graphics I still cannot find another game on PC or PS3 that matches the graphics quality of Heavy Rain's characters even though 720p is all it renders.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

For me this is a refined version of Max Payne 1. You can feel that Max's character has matured and he's become a wiser man. This is somewhat of an analogy for Remedy who having succeeded with Max Payne now have moved from a basement to an office with proper funding. One could expect a sequel to be a flop however this has only continued the quality that was put into Max Payne 1. Great to see Sam Lake writing for this one, the comics are still a technical workaround but add essence to the game (something Max Payne 3 under Rockstar has lost).

For me this is the most memorable game I've played for the reason of having a most memorable character and gameplay. One can relate to the protagonist throughout the game no matter which situation he finds himself in. Remedy have done an excellent job in their basement and creative use of comics/animations worked a treat. Having come from a demo scene background Remedy had particularly sharp eye to detail and know-how for working under limited hardware/funding conditions. Sam Lake managed to write a great script for the game and Max's character. His quotes are almost poetry like and the humour is both funny and clever.

Even without considering that most of the Team Silent folk were not particularly successful at their previous projects they managed to succeed at creating a masterpiece. This game was and still is original and full of dense atmosphere with a lead character whom you cold relate to throughout the gameplay. Even though this was one of the first music scores Akira Yamaoka made he managed to score a memorable main theme tune. To day this still holds as one of the most memorable games for me.

An original Silent Hill fan here. Not having played this game until recently is my largest gaming mistake I ever made (never owned a PS2). I'd want to wipe my memory of it and go back in time when PS2 originally came out just to play it there and then. For now I'll have to settle in with what I've got (a PC port of it in 2013). Akira Yamaoka is surely one of the best game music composers I've come across through gameplay. This game is a great example of what happens when a team (Team Silent) succeeds with 1st game and gets enough funding for a sequel while not losing their tempo. Something similar happened when Remedy released Max Payne 2, you could see what dedication with enough funding results in.

This is the best implementation of batman the character I've ever played. The nightmare scenes are a great and unexpected touch to this game. One star off for the game being incapable of loading levels so you can revisit some of the highlight areas (Scarecrow).

The story line of this game is not what got me playing. Beautiful graphics with a very well put together atmosphere is what kept me going though. Artyom is well narrated and the player can relate to his character and what he's going through quite quickly. It's one of those games you'll want to replay when you get that brand new speedy graphics card as this game is still a benchmark for many new generation video cards.

This is one of the most obscure games you will never hear of and should have played. The game play mechanics and visual designs/animations were years ahead of it's time. One wonders how many other games' play mechanics have been inspired by Undying without credit where it's due. The game holds up well even today and is one of the more atmospheric games out there. Pro tip: play it really late at night when you'll have more concentration and less distractions.

This is not Max Payne that we know from Remedy. This is GTA style Max Payne the brand name. Although glimmers of hope arise throughout playing the game one does not have the same level of aspiration for Max compared to 1 & 2. Gameplay was great, story line was OK and what they've made out of Max's character is the unacceptable bit for me. Max from 1 & 2 was someone to aspire to but in 3 he is just a non appealing character. Just go and compare the almost poetic quotes of Max from 1 & 2 to the low grade humour he attempts in 3 and you will see what I am referring to.

Having finished this game I can say it's worth playing. For some reason this game felt as if Metal Gear Solid 4 met Heavy Rain and Alan Wake. David Cage's games are for those who like to get deeply involved with the story line and don't mind some futuristic themes being interleaved with present day settings. For those who have played QuanticDream's older games you'll feel right at home.
