Now very dated, and 'in comparison' to modern titles seems like a laughable attempt at making a game. BUT - I think this game is among three that I will always hold to be 'top-level' games I still remember the nights poured into this game, I still remember the moments of tension and relief at achieving the various milestones of game play, killing certain bosses or surviving certain levels. And knowing now that this spawned a sequel which in my mind is still unsurpassed in the Action RPG genre - Diablo 2, that fact alone means that this game has to be recognised as part of the pinnacle of PC gaming. Even now I occasionally like to have a little nostalgia and install Diablo 1 just so I can take a big old dose of happy memories. I can't honestly say that anyone should go out and get this game now, but just want everyone to understand that even before today's vast game budgets, before the dedicated teams of artists and environment designers, before all of the impressiveness of modern gaming there were games like this that shone out because they provided fantastic experiences and enticing game play. Times have moved on, but my memories are better than a hundred new releases.

Borderlands 210

Why does this site not provide an 11/10 score for games that truly deserve it... This being one such game. At its core its entirely simplistic, shoot and explode alien thingys until you get a better gun with which to shoot & explode alien thingys. BUT --- wrap that up with sensationally funny characters, a great story line, some twists turns and EXPLOSIONS and bam .. Borderlands 2 If you liked the original Borderlands now imagine playing that after 20 cans of redbull and realising your boss called you and yelled down the phone "sweet skagg-entrails! Take the rest of the week off and pay the damn game!" It's more fun with friends, so if you can get a 'stable' group together this is sure to be the most fun you can have with your clothes on with those people. Perhaps the only true sequel to the original games, this offers an in depth role playing experience with crucial choices weighing on your every move and characters you'll come to love, or love to hate. This game goes from strength to strength and If I were to include the DLC available it'd easily be a 9/10 ... If I could include player made mods this game tips the 10/10 There are so many ways to play this, and thanks to a thriving modding community even years after most folk have forgotten about this game and moved on there's new content bubbling up to ensure this superb game keeps drawing me back in. There are a few very notable game-engine glitches and the graphics are dated by most standards but really these things hardly ever detract from having a great game, becoming embroiled in the wasteland and wondering If your character is strong enough to crack the next challenge. I highly recommend this game, especially now that it's old enough to regularly be available on sale! get a cheap copy and find out where the wastes take you...

Fallout 29

Personally I see this as a pinnacle of games production. I was challenging, interesting and kept me engrossed for hours at a time. Great improvement over the original, the controls are more forgiving and the interface although only marginally improved seemed freindlier to use. The game offers great characters and varied experiences with a fulfilling player experience. Although I first played this game over a decade ago, I've since bought 3 copies just because of disk failures / system upgrades, and each time I've bought it I've played it longing for more! I cannot think of any single game that has captivated me for more than a decade other than this one.

A really fun game, but sadly it's control system and UI is less than stellar and while It's not a damning point, for me it was simply too short! I guess what I'm saying is that aside from clumsy controls If this were a bigger game I'd probably give it 9/10 ... Worth replaying again and again.

Incredibly linear gameplay, very few real impactful player choices and after only a short while it becomes utterly repetitive. the graphics are quite nice, but not without a few notable glitches - combined with a physics engine that can be comedic at times, only further removing the player from any form of immersion. The dialogue options are awful, and more often than not leave the player with no option. I gained some enjoyment out of the 'settlement building' feature but even this feels like an empty reproduction of the Sims. The game offers zero challenge even at the highest difficulty. There is simply no reason why this game has gone so backwards in so many regards.
