I don't understand all the fuss around this movie : the criticism of our society through its violence etc etc ... It's a take on the origin of a famous villain in comics.. not bamby... what were expecting, the Note Book ! Yes it takes inspiration of today's news like many movies took inspiration of their present. Is it the movie of the century ? No. Is it a really good movie ? Yes. Phoenix delivers once again (but he's been an amazing actor for a long time !). Todd Phillips came a long way from Very Bad Trip (which was also neurotic and chaotic ... so maybe he was the right director !). The rest of the cast is solid but not a lot of on-screen time (but hey, the movie is about one person). The script, the music, the picture, there are really no false note ! My biggest thumbs up is to have re-imagined a story many times told in an intelligent way. We all know who is Joker and what he'll be... still, we spend the movie stressed by the built up. Go see it, it's worth it.

I think the studios must have bought all the critics ! I don't understand at all the metascore because I just went to see it and this is not the above 80 points movie. Chadwick Boseman (who was just fantastic when he played James Brown) is blunt, so is Michael B Jordan, Angela Basset and Forrest Whitaker are just useless. Only the lead female characters had some life ! The story is slow paced and full of clichés. The Execs at Disney need to bring back guys like Sam Raimi and Jon Favreau to blow some freshness in these movies like the first Iron Man. And those who compared it to James Bond (because of the car chase.... but in J.B. it's done by real stuntmen not CGI) or the Dark Night is high on drugs ! Is it because it's the first superhero movie with a black character that no one wants to give it a real critic ? It's like when you're kid sings in front of you and you're like "you're so great" but deep inside you're like "My god it was awful" ... it's your child so you're not going to criticize !!

Seen the movie at the opening on Wednesday... just to avoid spoilers. I did not like Episode VII, although beautiful, it felt to much like a "mash-up" of the first trilogy (a robot with a mission on a desert planet finds the main hero etc etc... death star... stormtroopers) where it should have a been a new story completely. Suffice to say that episode VIII is a better movie but we are far from saying it's among the best of the whole franchise. I won't spoil the movie but if I have to summarize, the intentions are there but the execution is not successful. We can critize the second trilogy but Lucas tried to create different environements, worlds, visuals and the way the Empire rose made more sense than how this "First Order" became so powerful !! Apple fired Steve Jobs... look what happened when he came back... Disney should do the same with Lucas.

Simply put, bravo ! Mangold gave Wolverine the picture this character deserves. I've always felt that all the other movies including him had their foot on the brakes but not this time. The balance between the emotional state of each characters (he's not mentioned enough but Merchant is also spot on), the violence of the images, and the rythm of the movie is almost perfect. They could have asked Ennio Morricone to score the soundtrack even !

It's a good movie for sure. They did not have the budget of movies like the first Iron Man for example but the result is more than honorable. It has very funny parts and Reynolds plays the character well. Some side characters, Ajax especially, are average and the movie feels a little bit rushed sometimes. But it works great and the references to 80s pop culture is spot on. If added to an x-men movie, Deadpool could add the "spice" it misses.

It's a shame really. They had enough to top the first Avengers movie. Characters building is bad, the story plot is rushed, the huge cut about Thor and the Norn is a shame, the way The Vision is introduced into the movie is also rushed etc etc. Spader's cast of Ultron's voice might be the only brilliant thing... and the fight between Hulk and Iron Man. It feels like they wanted to put as many things as possible to make a "popcorn" movie... is Whedon using M. Bay's recipies ?
