I know I'm in the minority not thinking James Macarthur is well cast, I think he's not convincing as a cold killer. His smugness is a real turnoff. The ambiance of the waterfront and the Ship Ahoy are wonderful!

The film noir black and white atmosphere and characterizations are top notch! The only change I would make would be to have Ness not be such a self-righteous stiff. I'm often drawn to the criminals, hoping they'll somehow escape
