The main difference between Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody is that Bohemian Rhapsody is a celebration of Queen's music with a focus on Freddie Mercury, while Rocketman is the story of Elton John where his music comes after the downbeat moments in his life. I think we really liked seeing how Queen came up with their songs, who wrote which favorite Queen song, and how they recorded the songs. We go to the movies a lot, so we want to be entertained. I'm pretty sure that people who don't normally go to the movies offen, will also pick a movie that makes them happy. That's why a movie about celebration will make more money than a movie about the reality of life. Somehow they make Bohemian Rhapsody upbeat even though Freddie died. Anyway, we have our own downbeat moments and we don't need to pay to see someone else's troubles. Nonetheless, for those who want more reality, yes, Rocketman is more true to life than Bohemian Rhapsody. Rocketman is a good picture, where the focus is Elton John overcoming and surviving, and his music comes second. Considering how many musicians have died doing the same things Elton John did, it is an accomplishment.

This was an adorable, sweet, silly movie like the old Doris Day/Rock Hudson movies, except it was almost a musical which we found very entertaining. This movie was cute, fantasy entertainment, nothing more. We loved seeing the usual antics from Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine, but also seeing Liam Hemsworth being funny for once, and hearing his Australian accept for a change. Priyanka Chopra, Betty Gilpin and Brandon Scott Jones were all VERY funny in their over-the-top roles. All in all, it was a very enjoyable film like a throwback to the past G-rated romantic comedy movies. You can tell the actors enjoyed making this film, and we enjoyed watching it.

At first, I felt like I was watching a home movie about non-interesting things happening in a family's life. But then you notice how everyone interacts with Cleo, and how in many ways Cleo is central to the family, yet she's ignored and always in the background taking care of them. The audience realizes that Cleo takes care of the bigger day-to-day family life duties that both parents are neglecting. Cleo tries to have her own life, but it fails in the worst way. Cleo is afraid of losing her job, but receives comfort and understanding from the family without judgment instead. It is the final incident when the entire family realizes what Cleo is to them. That's when Cleo can finally admit to them what she's been truly feeling and that's what causes the family to grow together. I hope these independent movies continue to grow because I'm really tried of seeing studio films where it's just one physical fight after another using special effects. The true battles in life are what's within us, and movies can help teach us how to make lives better. In this case, appreciating the contributions of an indigenous woman, and no matter her station in life, how she helps the family in so many ways besides housework. The family give her a job and out of poverty, and she in turn gives back much more than that in emotional support and love.

Three of us went and were highly entertained with words and actions instead of special effects. One of us is Republican the other two are Democrats. It takes a powerful personality who can take charge and no one wants to challenge him since the president didn’t. We really can’t have people in government that are like that, but we do, despite the government rules that are supposed to be followed. Using Cheney’s exact words makes this movie believable.

After watching this movie, I understand why people aren't crashing down the doors down to see this movie. It's heart wrenching and brutal about bad people in high places misusing their "power" and then lie about it to the public. It shows journalists trying to expose this at a high cost to their health and lives. What's disheartening is that those things are still happening today. Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan, and their fellow actors make us feel their horror as they witness atrocities, one after the other. It's a well-written film about inhumanity in the world we must not allow to continue. It shows the people who try to fight it and the people who try to report it, which makes this a hard film to watch. The film showed the violence, without film goers always having to witness it, because seeing the after was enough to realize what had happened by these unscrupulous people in power.

We feel like Bradley Cooper handed this movie to Lady Gaga, but then, this movie's storyline is always more about the female than the male. Lady Gaga truly proved herself playing this role without her usual excessive makeup and has added yet another facet to being a great all-around performer. But most singers emote when they sing, so her performance shouldn't be a surprise. The surprise is how sincere her acting is even though in real life Lady Gaga had the confidence to succeed, whereas in this movie, Ally needs Jackson to succeed. Either way, if it works, it works.

I guess I'll never make it as a movie critic because we loved this movie and we disagree with the poor ratings by the critics. It was a long movie, yet didn't feel long. What we got out of is how he succeeded, by believing in himself and being supported by his band members. We don't need to know everything about him. This movie showed why Freddie Mercury was great, despite his many flaws.

This was a fascinating way to present the story of a film from the viewpoint of our electronic devices and our activities on the internet. John Cho is certainly proving himself to be a wide-ranging actor. He can play comedy (Harold and Kumar) and action movies (Star Trek). In this movie, he plays a distraught father. Debra Messing is also playing against type, way against type, and just as excellent. I love the fact that more little movies like this are becoming produced. Sure the super hero movies are fun to watch, but it’s these little movies that are worth watching more than once.

Joaquin is one of my favorite actors. When I see him brooding in his films, I feel for his character. In this movie, you see his sensitivity with his mother, then he shows his dark side. I wish he would someday act in a movie when he’s smiling and happy. I already know he can sing, so add some dancing, and we would see a very different side of him. Anyway, while the subject matter was very stark and harsh, somehow Joaquin made us care for a character who has many flaws.

Jon Hamm was excellent in showing a compassionate man with weaknesses, yet maintaining his morals. Rosamund Pike is always reliable in making her characters interesting. The story was thought provoking on how a beautiful city like Beirut was destroyed. That there might not be an answer until there are drastic changes made by the people who live there. As senior citizens, my boyfriend and I enjoyed the premise very much along with the references from the late 70’s to 80’s, which we lived through. But then you realize you have no control over it...most of the time. So in order to get something out of this movie, you must understand it. This movie tries to find an answer, and for that, it's well worth watching the final adventure of an older couple who don't have much time left. It's not a feel good movie, although it has many light hearted moments. It's a well-written, well-acted movie about the reality of end of life.

This movie is worth watching just for the stunts Alicia Vikander put herself through. I also enjoyed Daniel Wu. He’s funny, sexy, and strong. His role served as a great partnership to Lara’s endeavors. If there’s a sequel, I hope to see the two of them together again. While I liked the stunts, I like it better when Lara uses her brain. So while the first hour and a half was mostly a bunch of enjoyable stunts, the the last half hour stunts seemed repetitive. Then, the very end redeemed the movie with Lara back using her brain.

Sub-titled movies usually don’t interest us, but we wanted to see this movie because we felt it would explain the situation in Lebanon between the Lebanese and the refugees, and it did. It’s a very thought-provoking film with a strong message. The film shows how, even long after war, people are still very wounded and react in ways that if they don’t change, recovery is impossible. This movie also reminded me how situations involving tribal disputes, racial discrimination, or people not allowing different people be, regresses any progress in life for everyone. Now I have to watch the other 4 Oscar nominated foreign films to see if this movie was as good as I thought it was. On a side note, the actress Camille Salameh stood out for us because she seems like a combination of Lebanese Jennifer Lawrence/Helen Mirren. She played the young lawyer well, but then, the entire cast was excellent.

I made my boyfriend watch this movie with me as I am an old movies fan and he is not. He became very intrigued with Gloria Grahame and hadn’t realized that this was pretty much a true story. That a famous Oscar winning actress asks a close-knit family if she can stay with them while she’s in denial about her terminal illness, and they treat her like a member of their family as they try to figure out what to do. Who could have thought up such a plot? Gloria and Peter are hard roles to make credible. I’m surprised Annette and Jamie didn’t get Oscar nominations. I doubt this movie would have been made, or gotten people to be interested in watching it, if not for the current political climate which seems to be more than just repeating the mistakes of the past. As we watched this movie, it's incredible how the tension builds even though we know what's going to happen. I was reading the negative reviews of this movie, and it's quite obvious which side we lean on when giving a review for this movie. I wish people had honorable convictions in real life as they appear to have in this movie. Even if the people they are recreating in this movie didn't do everything the movie says they did, I wish they had. So for us, it was a wonderful movie about people's integrity and what they do about it. Our 23 year old was amazed at what life was about without cell phones, without electronic data, and how we used to publish papers. Finally, while the acting was good by all with much sincerity, Meryl Streep's role sure shows her merit as our greatest living actress since this isn't a showy role. Meryl has to convey emotions with subtle face expression and the tone of her voice. She truly gives us the feeling that she knows she's in over her head, yet hangs in there. This story has been made necessary to remind the public of how some politicians work against Americans.

My boyfriend wanted to see this movie and told me it starred Josh Brolin. I don't like westerns or civil war films (except for "Gone With The Wind"), and the trailer didn't make this film appealing to me. I like films that entertain. However, I gave in and quickly realized it was Christian Bale (I don't know why my boyfriend confuses Bale with Brolin), who was very unlikable at first. After a slow beginning, the story becomes very compelling and it doesn't matter that it's a western or whatever this movie is. The story is about human dignity and what it takes to get along with people who don't look like you, or think like you. As the story progresses, both sides gain respect for the other as they endure the same horrible situations. Wish more people were really like that during trying times and still able to show empathy and caring. The end of the film was a bit of a tease on what was going to happen next, and we're glad the film ended the way it did. On top of a compelling story (at least the story was compelling for us), it has great acting, and wonderful scenery. I wish I knew where they filmed. The cinematography was gorgeous!

Very imaginative with great characters: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm thinking the movie is about being different, that people are prejudice, and how the characters in this movie handle it. It's very sad to think that when you have such a vast difference of opinion, some people resort to violence rather than work out a solution. Sally Hawkins has the type of face that tells you what she's feeling. Olympia Spencer is always a wonderful addition, and we need her for this sad story. I think the story ends well if Sally's character is fine with what happens. I always like Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins. They can play any role well. It was a nice story line to show a Soviet spy with a heart.

This was a 2 hour movie that didn't drag. The movie explains Tonya's behavior that ruined her life. This screenwriter should be nominated because, while Tonya and her ex seem despicable at first, we sympathize with them as they explain their really bad decisions. We'll never know how involved Tonya was in trying to eliminate Nancy, but you can see that Tonya trusted the man she thought was her savior who helped her get away from her abusive mother. The incident was incredibly stupid in so many ways. After all, even though Nancy got the endorsements for being a classy skater, while Tonya got no endorsements, Tonya's skating was much more powerful than all other skaters. At least in that time period when she could perform the triple axels. Too bad Tonya's ex and his friends didn't know enough about skating to see that Tonya could win on her own against Nancy, and anyone else. I saw the Olympics that year. No one could perform under those circumstances and Tonya did indeed crumble. That should have been her punishment. I don't understand how the judge had jurisdiction to ban her from skating. I find that most unfair. It's also pretty amazing that Margot Robbie is only 27 years old and produced this movie. She picked a good subject who needs our sympathy now.

This movie has a great plot line with a lot of interesting sub-plots. Excellent performances by Chastain and Elba. But what's really amazing about the movie is the dialogue. When you go see a film written by Aaron Sorkin, you need to pay attention or you will miss something. The other good thing about Sorkin's screenplays is that he explains things. In this case, Sorkin also directed and he did a marvelous job! I never thought Michael Cena could play a bad guy well as he does in this movie. I'm now so disappointed in the real life actor that Michael Cena's character represents, who seemed like such a nice guy...until now. That actor deserves being exposed like this. The other LA actors that were named elsewhere came off really well. Most (except for the Michael Cena character) were a bunch of LA actors who needed extra stimulation that their excessive money had given them, and they seemed to play fair. Unfortunately, once the game moves from Los Angeles to New York, the players are much more dangerous and the game changes completely.

The plot is about taking a satellite system that works well and turning it into something bad for selfish and political reasons. The main characters are cliche and the dialogue is as bad as usual in these types of science films. In this movie, good people do bad things for the greater good. I prefer seeing a bad person doing good to restore my faith in humans. Either way, it’s always intersting to see how to change actions that affect people badly. Our reason to see this movie, despite the critics, was for the imaginative scientific premise. We got what we paid for. This was a very touching film about extremely flawed parents. What's incredible to me is how the 4 children not only survived, but three of the four became successful and productive despite the neglect. Makes you wonder about rich parents whose children die young of a drug overdose. This story tells you that some people can overcome adversity under the most trying conditions. What helped a lot was that the parents did love their children, and that the children knew they were loved. Woody Harrelson did an excellent job of making his awful character sympathetic. The middle-aged Jeanette, Ella Anderson, was excellent with her expressions so you could feel her pain. Because of Ella, you know why the adult Jeanette, Brie Larsen, has become hardened towards her parents. I'm sure it's easier to understand this story when one identifies with the story as we did growing up in the same era.

It had the usual car chases, but what made this movie work for me is the cartoonish way the characters are as they work together representing countries that dislike each other. In this movie, enemies are working together for the greater good. Wish it was like that in real life.

It's amazing how Woody Allentown gets away with taking other people's stories, and getting undeserved praise as a writer/director. "Blue Jasmine" was an update of Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Names Desire." "Midnight in Paris" used quotes from the Lost Generation's words and writings as the screenplay. "Magic in the Moonlight" combined the lives of famous magicians, Harry Houdini and Chung Ling Soo. And now we have "Irrational Man" which resembles the premise of Michael Douglas' "Star Chamber," except the characters are less likable. I don't understand how women would fall for Joaquin Phoenix's character. Yet, it's amazing what Joaquin does with an unlikable character. He made the character interesting and intriguing, instead of the whiny way his character was written. Some day, Joaquin wil win an Oscar. But not for this movie.

It's hard to believe Meryl Streep and Rick Springfield were both around 65 when this was filmed. They both look real good for their age! Kevin Kline is slightly older and he's as dashing as ever. The movie had its moments when you understood and cared for the characters' viewpoints. Unfortunately, there was a missed opportunity to show a woman following her dream in a more sympathetic light. But the movie did make a point about men being able to follow their dreams at the cost of their relationship with their children, but a woman can't. I would have liked to see her staying up all night after coming home from a gig to fix her children's breakfast and send them off to school before going to bed., then spend time with the kids and put them to sleep before going to the next gig. It doesn't seem Meryl's character ever sacrificed herself for her children. I don't think I've liked any of Diablo stories after Juno. But she does create good characters who have witty lines.

We thought this movie was hilarious and others in the audience must concur by the laugh outloud by most of us where scenes were hilarious to some, and other scenes were hilarious to others. The story did not copy the original movie and it had a lot of family sentimentality, and love, mixed in with outrageous scenes one after another during a road trip. It was at times stupid, ridiculous and sometimes cringe worthy, but even then, we had laughs one after the other throughout the entire movie. Great way to spend an evening!

For people who like character driven stories, this is an excellent ensemble of well acting with with the audience trying to figure out the mystery to know what the characters are up to. The little kid almost steals the movie from Ian, almost. The movie made us feel like we were back on that era, so good set decoration. It made us feel like we were in England from the past. A little slow in the beginning, but then you get caught up in the character's lives. Excellent!

Very well written for such a tiny hero. The writers used their imagination well, and the right actors were hired. To me, this was a lot better than the other super hero movies where it's just a bunch of fighting. Being so tiny, this hero has to come up with other methods to win and it works for me.
