Sita Sings the Blues7
Sep 23, 2010
Sita Sings the Blues is a delight to watch if only for the animation; it's done in several different styles that make it more visually compelling. It's a bit short on story and I didn't personally enjoy the soundtrack that caused so much drama, even if it is integral to the storyline. I enjoyed the back-story of how this film was made more than the storyline itself, but, again, the visuals and the fact that it's freely distributed make this a must-see, if only to support a woman who poured her heart and soul into this project.

You probably won't like this movie if you're not a fan of chick flicks That said, fans of Nancy Meyers's other works (The Holiday, Something's Gotta Give) will feel right at home. Like her other movies, this is set in a visually stunning environment that many would love to live in. The story is fun (if contrived in parts) and the cast is a joy to watch. No, it's not entirely realistic and won't challenge you intellectually, but it's a fun movie to watch and will join the list of Meyers's other movies that I watch repeatedly.

Because I Said So2

As much as I love Diane Keaton and want to say that this is a worthwhile movie, I just can't bring myself to do it. The story has plot holes so large that a John Deer could fall in and never be found. The ridiculous sexual undertone is completely tacky and unnecessary. It's predictable, underdeveloped, and not at all clever. It's worth seeing if you happen to have Netflix, but it's not worth seeing in a theater.

What a treat! I walked into the theater expecting to see one of the worst movies of all time, but I was delighted to find that the movie was filled with stars who portrayed their roles perfectly, a wonderfully original, comical and surprisingly cohesive story. The story is an interesting mixture of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Titanic, but it all comes together quite well to tell an adorable tale of adventure and love with a perfectly simple yet tear-jerking ending. The acting was marvelous. Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro were especially fun to watch, but every character shines at one point or another. I'm still a little confused because it was so perfectly random and unexpected, but it's one of the first movies I've seen in a long time where I haven't noticed or cared about the length. It's a legitimately fun move to watch and well worth seeing.

This is clearly one of the best movies ever made. While it probably causes 99% of the population to scratch their heads with curiosity, this movie really does what it is meant to do very well. It's extremely entertaining and thoroughly over the top. One of the best 'blonde' movies ever made.

Howl's Moving Castle8

A thoroughly bizarre story, but thoroughly worth watching. Miyazaki's story lines are always a bit on the odd side, but this atypical approach to writing is what makes his movies so fascinating and captivating.

2 Days in Paris8
Aug 17, 2010
Julie Delpy and Adam Goldberg are perfectly paired in this comedic take on a French-born photographer bringing her American boyfriend home to meet the family in a move that pushes their relationship to the limits. The oft exaggerated cultural differences between French and American cultures spark some unique and genuinely funny laughs. Trips to the market, an overly liberal view of sex, overly friendly Frenchman, and opinionated taxi drivers all contribute to what Goldberg called "the most un-romantic trip to Paris ever." Perhaps the worst part of the movie was the final message, which appeared in only the last three minutes of the movie and basically asserts that at some point in life you will decide that you no longer have the energy for another break-up and that it would be altogether easier to simply settle down and stick it out. Call me crazy, but I would have expected a more romantic ending to a French movie. Nevertheless, the unique humor is genuinely funny and the interactions between the four main characters (Delpy, Goldberg and Delpy's parents) are a lot of fun to watch.

Paris, je t'aime10

Paris je t'aime is truly a breath of fresh air. Many modern American movies are thick with plot, drama and action just for sake of having a discernible 'wow' factor, but Paris je t'aime is a clever little movie that is really just a combination of short love stories that take place within Paris--ranging anywhere from divorce, to monster love, to love of a child. It was great to go to a movie and not have to invest so much of myself to it. The stories are so diverse that you really get to experience a wide variety of lives and situations, a few of which are bound to touch you in some way.
