While i feel the game was just a bit too long, I think it masterfully accomplishes what it set out to do. It is definitely more horror than any resident evil title. Abstract and ambiguous where it needs to be. Great
This was the biggest disappointment of the year. There art is absolutely stunning and the mechanics were promising. But the second half of the game would need to be completely redone. A murder mystery who killed Adana would be an obvious choice and some actual role playing. The ending is the weakest part, sadly
An experience that is less than the sum of its parts and did not work for me. The ending had a feeling of having a "true" ending with Norah paying attention and uncovering hidden truth, but instead you're just given that and a hollow choice
As a game this is not worth it, but as a somewhat interactive experience it made me cry a lot. I think I would recommend this game to either a parent or someone who has been through a loss, otherwise I imagine it would be hard to connect with it.
Do you like Inside? Me too. So you ask what if it was more lit? it would be more beautiful, but that's about it. I think the gameplay and story took a toll
Great as a visual novel, awful as detective game. The aesthetic is what will bring you to this game and it delivers (except in the gameplay sections, what's with the 4 bit graphics?) The only good story is the frame narrative, which for a game this long is unfortunate. Some people pan the ending, but I think it had awesome moments and ok moments ( the only bad one is the cyber attack, butt that is not part of the emotional journey anyway).
What this game taught me is the great moments do not make a great game. It is decent though. Graphics are good, but the art style is just alternating between art deco and cyberpunk. 30GB for a short mostly walking sim is ridiculous. The story is altered carbon fan-fic, although I too wish for a similar story, but good. The Greek gods name dropping is not used in themes. The themes which do make it in are horror in nature, but the genre of the game does not match.
In classic adventure games fashion a lot of locations are available right of the bat, and that is great and the best part of three game. Maybephasing them out a bit and you know actually having things todo in them would have been nice. Also the customizable main character hints at bigger ambitions or a missed opportunity to add light rpg element. Will be following the developer, their next offering could be both innovative and great.
I do not know how they could have made a better remake of the games of my childhood. I think this was excellent throughout.
One minus: I do not like crossovers like Freddy Krueger, they break immersion. In this case it apparently also led to the game being delisted on steam.
The blinking mechanics did not work for me, probably because of weird camera positioning, so that ruined that. As for the story, I would call it good, not great
Looked very promising, but was a massive letdown, the story was somehow mundane (might be because they were going for a "realistic" representation and I didn't vibe with that?)
This is a good game with great moments. However it is mostly like a personality test with no answer and nothing to back it up. It asks interesting questions but is not deep enough to have anything interesting to say. Feels a bit unfinished, but it is a good short experience. The gameplay is very annoying
I do not care for the graphics, but I was immediately drawn in. I think the pacing and episodic nature is great. It manages to elevate the experience of adventure game with simple puzzles. I think the translation is not the best either, and in spite that I was hooked
This is the best short open world game. Lots of minigames, good emotional story, things to collect etc. The only real downside is maybe that it's short so not a lot of meat to it.
This is Undertale-- I do not care for the graphics. As an adventure game it is serviceable, but not great. Having you go through it twice for the ending I would not appreciate in any game, even less in something called OneShot. That said, the story is pretty good, although the dialogue is not great and that one carries the moment to moment.
I cannot rate it higher than the original syberia, but I find nothing to fault, if you liked the original this is a great entry to the series. The biggest comeback that I know of ( after the awful syberia 3)
The art style is what drew me in, but after a while you get used to it and it doesn't seem so outstanding anymore. For an adventure game it is more on the linear and boring side.
If I were to rank it on it's own merits this game would be all around solid, much like the new Alone in the Dark. However it is not, it is a remake, and therefore I compare it to 2 other games: The original, which was much more memorable (and good looking for its time) while having half the runtime, and Resident Evil 2 Remake which is a 10/10 survival horror, the measure of the genre. This game was frustratingly successful, as it is not for me.
This game is all around solid, I don't get why it wasn't more successful. It may also be the best lovecraftian game I have played, and I am a fan of the genre
Just leaving this review to let people know that it is not a game for everyone. I was on the fence about it but I saw it mentioned so often in essays I thought, why not? And the answer is because I was not enjoying it. I like the fact that it was thought out and there's things to uncover everywhere, but I do not like flying around in the little spaceship and doing "platforming" and being sent at the beginning, losing all progress. I just don't have the time anymore. All the while I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if this was a more "traditional" game instead? And that game exists, it's Majora's Mask (hard to recommend because of the dated graphics maybe) I did watch a playthrough of the DLC and it seems better. And it's big. Basically Outer Wilds 2. Not a fan of the darkness, but if I wanted to play a survival horror (with no shooting) I would play this.
This is a great game, with some bad parts. Clearly felt like game of the year during the tutorial. Sadly, the beginning is the best part story-wise. It feels magical, which was the important thing to do. (Metacritic is terrible, I play on PC, how can I cancel my PS5 rating?/move it to the correct platform)
I really wanted to like this game, it seemed a possible successor to the fun combat and pace of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic but with a lighthearted tone. Unfortunately I am not a fan of the combat encounter design, as they quickly became tedious, nor of the progression, which could have been a lot less video-gamey
A great open world, only second to the original breath of the wild. While it has some better elements like a better end boss, better story and ending, overall it provides a less fascinating experience.
So the gameplay is a bit repetitive and doesn't use the strengths of the setting, but hasn't that always been the case with the series? A great environment, ok story and good ending make this my second favorite AC after Origins. I wish it had a discovery mode
Hard to play because of all the waiting and loading times. But it is atmosferic. Know that it is a horror game you are going into, no scares, just dark atmosphere. I liked the story but thoroughly disliked the protagonist. This is like cringe text generator, the game. The art is appropriate: the backgrounds are beautiful, the characters are ugly.
The puzzles are involved and scratch the old school itch, but I find myself wondering why I shouldn’t play the great classics instead. The graphics were better and 30 years have passed. Speaking of which, the humour is puerile, which is an odd choice considering the target audience.
Beautiful pixel art and by the end an interesting experience. For the wonderful price of free. It has parts that drag though, and for such a short game that drags the score along with it
This game was the biggest letdown of the year for me. I had such high hopes, this developer has crafted some wonderful experiences before, but this is so…standard and watered down
For the first half this game looks very much like what Alan Wake 2 wanted to be like when it grew up. But the second half was a let down for me. surrealism was employed in the wrong bits there, the humour seems to seeped out and the gameplay devolved into generic puzzle platformer lite I guess. Still very much worth experiencing
What starts out pretty strongly quickly overstays its welcome. Walking simulators should be shorter than this. The last third should have been left on the cutting room floor.
Puzzle game does not describe this ideally, since you would expect something more mind bending I guess. There are just some light puzzles while you progress along a given route, with no story. It is however beautiful and engaging. I think it should have stopped at 3 spheres to work with instead of 4 to stay in the sweet spot for me.
They had the inspiration of getting themselves a good writer :) all story driven games should strive to do the same. The static scenery left me a bit disappointed, but for the great price of free, anyone interested should check it out
I game bits and pieces of I like very much. Reading narrative in the raspy voice of the limbic system in Disco Elysium helps very much. What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't compare very favorably. Gameplay is addictive and simple like a mobile game, but after some hours it feels very much like busywork.
I am enjoying and did find it quite similar to Disco Elysium, that is how I got to find it. It is a bit lacking in the presentation department, cool moments should be more emphasized, but they are there, so for me this is a great experience. The deduction system could do with a complete overhaul, the way it is it makes me feel I'm missing out and doing wrong choices when in fact this game is mostly about self-expression. As the game goes on, the linearity begins to weigh it down
I'm loving it. Was promised the Romanian parliament building, though. People get offered an innovative experience and they complain about "gameplay". Some lines do get repetitive towards the end though, it feels it has the writing of a shonen anime. The ending is great in theory, but the execution is rather lacking.
I kept going for the story to get good. It never did, bit it did hook me along till the end. The only good thing about it is that is short and so did not lead me on for too long until not delivering.
I'll start off by saying that this game didn't really click with me, which is a bummer, since I think there is a lot in it to like. I pretty much appreciate everything they did, but I don't enjoy everything. Some people complain this is too much of a puzzle game, which drew me in, but for my current desires it is a bit too action-oriented.
This one is overrated. Yes the writing is pretty good, at least not banal, at least in the beginning. But I had no fun with it. The atmosphere was good enough, but the story was not.
Revolutionary when it came out and an unexpectedly pleasant experience for me, who was not into action games. The movement, the mechanics, the storytelling and especially the locations were great and beyond what I expected. In most ways this has not been topped since.
An action/adventure title from the same era as Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, from which it seems to take a lot of inspiration. But it does everything differently, like Jackie Chan describing his approach compared to Bruce Lee. And the end result is almost as good. Subdued an melancholic where Prince of Persia was bombastic and cinematic.
The atmosphere is on point, but I found the rest of the experience not as rewarding as most players. Sure, exploring a mostly empty world would have been nice, but I guess I was looking for more impressive vistas or things to discover.
I guess I was wrong in judging this game would be of interest to me. It is too linear, and compares unfavorably to the uncharted series. Am a fan of neither the storytelling nor the gameplay.
