The One I Love5

The basic concept is interesting, though a little derivative of many "switch" movies. In that way I had fun trying to figure it out. And the acting was good. My problem was that there was nothing interesting about these people. In the beginning and at the end we know nothing about who they are, what they do or what they want. That makes it difficult to care about what happens to them. I do know that they are a typical acculturated American couple in the worst way - almost completely dishonest with each other. When she does get around to asking him the $64,000 question, he sort of, kind of accepts the responsibility and the blame. But he never answers her question. Pathetic. Finally, if you are going to show a couple having sex, then show it. People don't make love with their clothes on, most particularly people who have been married for a long time. I understand actresses not wanting to do nudity. So just show them briefly under the covers and move on. Believe me, the audience will get the idea. Overall, an inventive twist, but no real honesty.

Just another dreary American romantic comedy with plastic dialogue and people lying their asses off while acting in an inauthentic and non- believable manner. Typical double standard BS with the man pursuing and the "little girl" playing hard to get. Sickening and completely false in both real life and how the actual written characters were. Besides all that, this version is a twisted perversion of a fine novel. Nothing in this saccharine version is true to the story or characters. A total mockery. I gave it a two instead of a one because I laughed out loud at something Tina Fey said to a cow - not that anything like that was in the book either. Also she is easy on the eyes - Fey, not the cow.

Emma Stone is cute and likeable. The rest of it is trash American culture at its most disgusting. The so-called plot enshrines sick and irrational jealousy as some kind of norm instead of a disease, lies and dishonesty the only life strategy, yelling, emoting and washing dirty linen in public as acceptable. And why is the father of every teenage daughter portrayed as foaming at the mouth at the first sign of his girl's sexuality. Sorry, but real, matyre people do not act like this and pretending this is reasonable behavior does a disservice to everyone. The only wise characters are the kids, despite the fact that any moron would know that they are clueless about the subject matter. With role models like these, no wonder our young people are confused and incapable of forming decent relationships. This film does not even cut it as a guilty pleasure, because the plot is absurd. Antidote to this incessant garbage for all Americans: Read Radical Honesty: Transforming Your Life By Telling the Truth. End of rant.

First the good news. The cinematography is stunning - stark, bold, lumnescent. It owns the screen in a way I seldom see. Now for the rest. Based on a true story covers a multitude of sins. To keep it short and sweet, the plot is ludicrous and unbelievable and totally dependent on one outlandish coincidence after another. The character development is foolish, people made out of cardboard. All this leads to a climax out of a pulpy comic book. My one question to tye screenwriter. In this vast and frigid, white expanse of emptiness, how is it that all of the principals inevitably camped within a few hundred yards of each other and came across each other without fail for any of the action scenes? Gve me a break. If you can't see this on the wide screen it deserves, don't bother.

Very disppointing, particularly as I am a fan of Linklater's work. Even if these are supposed to be college kids, do they all have to be such total jerks and **** Hard to relate when almost none of the characters are likeable. And why are all the actors 24 and older? It is obvious that they are not college students which ruins any versimilitude. The distaff casting reeks of misogyny. Every girl is a babe or a starlet, just like when I was in school. Not. No real story, no baseball, a clueless coach. Yuck
