Loki: Season 2

Look, you're going to get very mixed reviews for this season for one of two reasons: 1, people who really liked the Sylvie/Loki romance are upset its not present in this season 2, they feel the storyline is jumbled Honestly, they're not fully wrong about the second one if that's their complaint, and I'm speaking as a friend of one of the writers. Things were jumbled, because they were sometimes rewriting things the morning of a film day. Not because they didn't have direction, but because they had to address a certain major plot line change due to a certain character no longer being central to the universe after a certain point... It didn't change the end goal for Loki. It didn't change what was going to happen for him or the primary arc, but it did change other aspects and they've never been shy about that. This was an incredible series. It had its low points same as season one. It wasn't perfect, but nothing ever is. That said, the way they handled this, especially that finale? Was incredible. The darkness of Miss Minutes, the way Ravonna was manipulated, Mobius wrestling with whether or not he wanted to know the truth? And let's not ignore just how utterly immaculate Ke Huy Quan's inclusion was. Tom Hiddleston may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you can't argue that this show didn't carry the entirety of the MCU on his back while Marvel repeatedly dropped the ball around them.

Wasn't a huge fan of the Loki-to-Loki relationship. Loved the character of Sylvie and what she represented and taught Loki about self love and trust, but it becoming like a relationship felt forced. Outside of that, this was really well done. The inclusion of other Loki's, the relationship with Mobius, the battle scenes, dialog; everything was well done and emersive, you could see the confidence blossom in Loki, the growth. And it made the setup for season two all the better.

By far one of the best TV shows to come from the MCU. Not only was the casting brilliant, the writing decent, the character arcs done well, and the set up for things even with the Jonathan Majors scandal resulting in some last minute rewrites.

This show started strong, had a fabulous concept and then dropped the ball by unraveling a lot of the emotional work it had done by trying to launch too many additional ships in its finale. It needed a second season, and I understand why it couldn't have one yet for as many things as it was trying to do at its end it really needed to have either two more episodes or be broken into two seasons that would have better allowed for things to feel less rushed toward the end given we got the setups for The Marvels, Agatha, VisionQuest, Multiverse of Madness, and possibly some other things we haven't even noticed yet.

My score would be higher as the first season warranted a 9 as it was nearly perfect, yet the second season is so atrocious it brings the score down to merely average. A shame truly as le Carré's work deserves far better.

This was deserving of every award it won. From the pilot episode to the fresh finite ending that deviated to the book, the modernized adaptation of le Carré's novel was superbly done. Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie were perfectly matched, Tom Hollander's Corky was wonderfully cast, and Elizabeth Debicki was an ethereal and commanding Jed. Olivia Coleman's gender bent Burr was a delightful and inspiring alternative that broke up the boys club, and watching her take on the role while pregnant increased the drama. It's simply too bad this couldn't be recaptured in the second season.

Diego Calva has promise in this and could have been an incredible breath of fresh air had they only allowed him to breathe and be the villain of the season instead of allowing for a misguided soap opera twist. Camila Morrone's acting is awful and her "romance" with Tom Hiddleston not only looks and feels forced but groomy. Terrible vanity casting choice on Amazon's part. Coleman's talents are sidelined and wasted along with Squires, and the plot holes are so large you can drive a motorcycle through them. This feels more like a cheap Bond knock off than a le Carré work. It lacks the same fundamentals, the deep dive into human murkiness that is the basis of all le Carré's work, and trades it for flashy rehashes of season ones plot and the leftovers from the original book. Even Hiddleston doesn't seem at the top of his game this time around save for a few moments where he's alone or with Calva. I wish I could score this higher but it wouldn't be honest to. It's lazy writing, bad acting, and poor choices on the production teams side with the obvious " twists that stunted what could have been an incredible character and killer performance by Calva. This wasn't worth the wait and I think the critics claiming this is good have either been compensated for their positive review, are diehard Hiddleston fans and would say it's good no matter what, or are in the minority of viewers because the public seems to think otherwise. And rightfully so. Hopefully, season three will be redemption, if not, at least we have season one and can pretend nothing else exists past it. Lowered my review further after Episode 5's **** scene. This is 2026. The **** was bad enough but to go THAT route and no one be upset just because it was a woman forcing herself on a man? Absolutely disgusting!!
