Love the idea and progression seems nicely balanced yet unfortunately it crashes constantly on switch. Should not have been released in this state. Avoid.
Beneath the bugs there is probably a good game. The sound occurs AFTER the animation, tooltips stay locked in place obscuring the fight for the entire battle, the frame rate stutters, you cannot tell which character has moves remaining, the text size will strain your eyes etc etc. The art direction is great though. Anyway, it’s a shame because I wanted to love this. As it stands, don’t waste your money. You have been warned.
Badly needs patching. Keeps hanging mid fight like it’s waiting for an input and all you can do is exit to Home Screen and force close - hoping it has saved as far as possible. I would avoid buying right now. Very annoying for a £35 game. Why do people think it’s ok to release in this state? If devs looking it’s happened Every. Single. Time. I face Murphy’s ghost and more…
Developers have abandoned with game breaking bugs. Lost dozens of hours of gameplay and looking online this is a known - and unfixed - problem. This game should not even be available for sale. Shame - the art direction is superb.
Painfully slow, confused mess of a “game”. Extremely linear - only one way and order to play and the challenges are very far from fun. Who on Earth thought this was a good idea?!? Did they even “play” test this rubbish?
This is a great game ruined by incredibly muddy graphics. Seriously playing this on a large screen hurts your eyes - you simply cannot focus on anything. Such a shame as the art direction is simply beautiful.
Muddy graphics. Forgettable soundtrack. Insulting load times (not optimised at all). A very cynical release from a major studio and I won’t ever support them again. This was my final straw.
Absolutely disgusting release state in the switch. Very low frame rate. Crazy loading times. This is a cynical cash grab at best. A wasted franchise at worst. What a terrible disappointment.
Almost perfect. My most played game. Slick controls, where you characters moves precisely as you wish which means any failure is yours alone, huge variety of weapons and pathways, incredibly satisfying combat, constant development - no run wasted - man, I just LOVE this game. I’ve only rated it 1 off 10 to give the devs something to strive for ;)
Dead Cells but you don’t lose everything after two hours of playing and the level design is FAR superior? SOLD Ignore the jaded reviewers this is a beautiful and rewarding game. Glad I took the plunge and bought this. Worth every penny.
I play this every single day. The perfect wind down. I’ve only held off a 10 because although this is a near perfect conversion I do think the UI could be slightly easier to navigate and the graphics are a little flatter than perhaps they could’ve been. I nice bird feeder asset or card shuffle animations etc might’ve really cemented this as a video game experience. All in all, almost perfect. Worth every Penny.
The design choice to prevent grinding absolutely kills this game. Was loving this game… until the second boss simply drove off screen and I received a “boss not defeated” message… At that point all played levels became locked and you’re only option is to proceed to higher levels with a woefully under prepared car. After dying about 50 times in a row I’m about to give up.
Ruined by excessive loading screens. I love this game, the way it looks, sounds, plays, the awesome concept but I can no longer endure it. Every single random encounter, will launch a 20-30 second loading screen. Same again when the fight is over. This utterly breaks the enjoyment of playing. I can’t bear it anymore. Deleted.
Played for one day. Now it won’t load my save file. Just returns to main menu. Tried force restart and redownload. Absolutely chock full of bugs. Awful, just awful. Nintendo have to start refunding these broken poor state releases or I’m done risking any day one purchases. The dev has some serious work to do here. I’ll check for patches in a month. This should not have been released.
Incredibly tough but also highly rewarding. No other games let’s you FLOW quite like this one. I may never beat it but I’ll keep giving it one more try. This is what handheld gaming is about. Excellent, if impossible.
Different resolution on hand and backdrop (which destroys the whole aesthetic) plus gameplay where any activity is nearly impossible to follow. Unplayable. Deleted.
Incredibly linear, moronically simple gameplay, and unclear rules (sometimes death is the end, sometimes it isn’t). Be under no illusion, this is a pretty mobile phone game at best. Not worthy of your Switch time. NB: Nothing confirms this more than the fact that certain HUD elements can ONLY be accessed using the touchscreen. Almost laughably lazy. Avoid.
This game is UNPLAYABLE on the switch because the stick co trolled movement is not fast enough and the touch screen to imprecise. I had to delete it within 10 minutes of purchase. AVOID.
Shockingly poor release state. Where do I begin? The fact it boldly states “early access” on the title screen (even though it isn’t)? The fact you have to press on the ‘R’ stick JUST TO ADVANCE THROUGH MENUS? The fact that it hangs (no button press will continue the game) after you level your character? The absolutely unreadable enemy text (even with the switch zoom feature on FULL)? The impenetrable equipment management? The unfathomable control system? The list goes on. Zero attention paid to this release. Save your money. Avoid.
Awful awful writing and lazy... well, everything. This feels so lifeless to play - the characters are annoying as hell, the graphics look like sharpened PS2 era there is no sense of satisfaction or impact, ever. Kill someone, wait for the rest of the turn to play out THEN they keel over. It’s a by the numbers game, not worthy of your time or money.
Wanted to like this. Was ready to love it. Have to advise against it. This badly needed more time in the oven for the Switch. The anti-aliasing/blur isn’t too bad but the frame rate drops make even simple camera movement stutter and falter when traversing the map. Basic stuff. I’d have gladly took a hit somewhere else to avoid that and I’m betting no compromise would even be needed if they’d just taken the time to optimise instead of releasing alongside all other platforms. Wait for a well publicised patch or give it a miss; these are your only real options. You have been warned.
Extended dialogue sections are unbearable and enemy graphics are painful to look at. I don’t expect a graphical powerhouse in a game like this but that mid 90s look on the character models is horrible.
I like “hard”. I don’t like “hard because of dodgy controls”. Utterly impossible fairly early on and this I coming from a big fan of meat boy, glam, Celeste, okunaka etc. This ain’t playable. I cannot believe these positive reviews. Avoid.
I really wanted to like this. The ridiculously short loop of the music can be muted. The confusing interface can be learned but much as I’m trying to like this it badly needs fixing. The worst thing is the extreme input lag, most prevalent in the menus of all places, seconded by a very shoddy guide which doesn’t even explain half the on screen icons you’re going to see. I THINK my armour just got reduced, I’m not entirely sure. I can never understand why d-pad inputs are ignored either on a turn based game like this. WHY?! This is all so frustrating, there’s a great game In here, somewhere.
Just completed this for the first time. Absolutely stunning story arc, the most beautiful pixel art I’ve seen and a fanatically rewarding upgrade system make this one of my absolute favourite switch games. I can’t wait to see what this team does next. A sequel hopefully!
Awful awful “game”. It’s nothing but a failed attempt to prove a concept. Aside from the hippy fantasy completely unrelatable “story” the basic gameplay mechanic just doesn’t work. You essentially have about two options of how to proceed at any one time, no way to strategise likely card drops and therefore no investment in the outcomes. Utter waste of cash. Pretty annoyed by the positive reviews.
Awful awful “game”. Extremely lazy UI, overly complex, movement is ridiculously cumbersome, appalling graphics (the characters rotate like a SNES game when you move the camera), repetitive objective, no sense of achievement even if you play well, boring and zero fun. I’d rather chew my own foot off. The developers are fortunate this has not been reviewed more widely. I so wanted this to be good. I bought it pre-launch and I feel utterly robbed. AVOID.
Crashes endlessly; and thanks to Nintendo arrogance you can forget asking for a refund. Only get this if you enjoy throwing away hours replaying the fights because it didn’t save. So disappointed; beneath the sloppy port lies a truly great game. DO NOT BUY.
