Batman: Arkham Knight6
Jun 24, 2016
Short and sweet, no bugs game has some filler quests but not unbearingly a lot. The major problem is combat is exactly the same after 3 games and frankly its boring as hell. It doesn't help that the Joker once again has a major role in the game which made me feel as if we've been there and done that. There's I think one new minor enemy thrown into combat to mix things up. Frankly the best part of the game was when you weren't Batman, which is kind of saying something when it's a Batman game. The game's not bad but it definitely has that been there and done that feel, not only by the Arkham series but other generic open world games as well.

Eh, singleplayer MMO. 1. Load times ****, if you don't have an SSD you're going to feel some pain. I would even suggest to not even buy it, unless you have an SSD. Hub loading times can take up to 2 minutes at a time. 2. Story and characters are terrible. A lot of times I feel the best characters are the ones you can't even have in your party. Cullen has a pretty interesting story and Leiliana is pretty awesome but you can't even use them. 3. UI, this UI is worse than Skyrim for a PC. Never thought I'd ever see Skyrim's UI trump another games. 4. Side quests have zero story. Its just fetch these said items and return to me. Or kill these 5 enemies and return to me. Or explore these five areas and return to me. Literally there are no compelling reasons to do a side quest if you're interested in lore, it's just a grind. 5. Main quest is at most 10 hours long but is locked behind level and resource requirements to drag out the game. 6. AI is just dumb and there's no options for control like DA:O 7. There's not much role-playing? There's not a lot of options for good/bad consequences other than extremely tacked on judgements by the PC. To me the game feels like initially it was an MMO and after the disaster that was Simcity they scrapped the idea, reused assets and released the game. Last Bioware game I day one after glowing reviews. Game looks pretty and I liked the character creator. The main quest also isn't too shabby, albeit a bit corny but with lack of compelling sidequests and characters its just boring when you're grinding the game out to advance the main story.

Saints Row IV7
May 23, 2014
Unbelievably stupid and unbelievably fun. The game parodies not only itself but other video games. The game's essentially Saints Row 3 with super powers which is both a good and a bad thing. The good, the game's on a juvenile stupid level of humor and gives nods to references a lot. The super powers feel great and are easy to control and dish out punishment. The best thing about the game though is just how unpredictable it is, going into any story mission you literally have no idea what is about to happen. The bad well, a lot of assets feel borrowed from Saints Row 3, the radio stations; save for the Mix station are total **** There's no Adult Swim station, miss you John :*(. The game literally would be better off marketed as an expansion pack than a full blown sequel, so much is reused that its' hard to justify spending $40 for a game if it doesn't feel like a full blown $40 game. Another problem is the developers used messed up ways to stretch out the game. One of the major examples are, "Clusters." Clusters allow your PC to develop their super powers and level them up, this wouldn't be a major problem unless there weren't 1,250 spread out over the whole city. Literally starting out you'll go mission to mission picking up every stupid cluster; going, "OOOH PIECE O' CANDY! OOOOH PIECE O' CANDY!" which pretty much defeats the whole purpose of "super," speed or "super," jump. After a while you literally go OCD, such as I, and just pick as many clusters up as you can before the next mission just so it won't ruin the flow of the game. I know my cons of the game are much longer than pros, but where the game shines, it shines. Its' ridiculously over the top and as cheesy as a video game can be. It never takes itself seriously and caters to my A.D.D. It gets to the action and gets to it immediately. The game's developers took some obvious paths to stretch out the gameplay; clusters and homie side quests, but all in all its' a great thrill ride. The humor, gameplay and characters all add up to a fun game and to me that's all that matters. I wouldn't pay $40 for the game, I paid $13 for the game+the season pack DLC and feel I got my money's worth. Between the base game+dlc it took 23 hours to beat.

One of the few games I'll ever give a 10. The planes are perfectly balanced and so are the modes. The game offers Bomb, Ball, FFA and TDM. Ball is essentially soccer/football and Bomb is essentially a destroy the base type of mode. The game is best played online and I wouldn't suggest it solo. Graphics are basic 2d sprites and gameplay is fairly simple to pick up but hard to master. The game's got nice variety with maps and planes. If there's one fault I can give the game is that its' pretty much best played online. I paid $15 for the game and have logged 560 hours.

BioShock Infinite6

The good, the game has probably the best atmosphere I've ever experienced in a game. Certain parts of the game just ooze ambiance and you can tell that the people at Irrational gave total thought into every single set piece that was placed. The game has probably the best environment I've ever seen in a game and its' pretty much the sole reason the game gets a 6. The atmosphere is top notch and you literally can't help but not be awed by the sight of Columbia. The bad, well it has this great atmosphere in a floating city but for most of the game you're exploring confined spaces. In all 8 hours I played in only a ten second span, did I feel like I was in a floating city. This was when the PC had to traverse a ledge to get to another point in the area. Another problem, the game uses checkpoints to save your game. The game prizes itself on exploration to flesh out the world through audio and visual diaries, such as Bioshock 1 and 2 yet at times I noted myself having thirty minutes between saves due to me exploring. I found myself rushing exploring just because I had to go to work or school. Another problem, there's not much variation in enemies or is there much of a challenge. The most challenging enemy called a, "Handyman," is only encountered around six or seven times and its' the only time you'll ever encounter a challenge. The gameplay is distinctly average, which is a shame. The game shares problem with third person shooters, in that it they telegraph where fighting will occur. The vigors also feel like direct rip offs from Bioshock 1 & 2 yet are harder to aim. The games story is decent, but the foreshadowing is literally jammed down your throat. and not only that but its' confusing as hell towards the end and makes no sense. I paid $7.50 for the game and it took ~8 hours. Overall the game's decent but don't expect the second coming of first person shooters.

Microtransactions don't ruin the game, but the mechanics in place that encourage F2P buyers to purchase gold do. After level 20, there's really no new mechanics to find and battling enemies consists of hitting the same buttons over and over again with little thought involved. Another problem I have is towards the end of the game the game heavily relies on fetch quests which feel as if they're nothing more than filler, the last two or so hours consist of just repetitive filler quests with hammy dialogue that isn't entertaining. Don't get me wrong the game starts out pretty neat and the battles are entertaining. The filler missions though are unacceptable and compounded with the lack of late game mechanics the game's hard to recommend.

Spec Ops: The Line5
Jan 11, 2013
Bought the game for the story was pretty disappointed, I called the ending and story half way through and the game only lasts 4-6 hours. Gameplay mechanics are average, there's nothing really to comment on about them as they're really just average, you enter a room then you clear it. Gun variety ****, and the only useful guns are Assault rifles. AI is stupid, often times your partners will just run in your line of fire or shoot people from out of cover and die. Level design is your typical TPS fare, you see cover you know there's an encounter soon. The game is overall underwhelming the story while different, isn't all that great and the game does nothing to set itself apart from it's peers other than story.

FTL: Faster Than Light8

Fun game, have logged ~20 hours into it and for $10 it's pretty solid. The graphics are simple and easy to understand, the UI is well laid out and lays all need to know information at your disposal, game's got some difficulty and the game's skill/luck system is pretty balanced. The problems are there's just a lack of content for random encounters. After a few replays you start to see patterns in encounters and know what path to pick even before you read the whole thing. Some encounters just seem predetermined for you to fail or lack any substantial rewards to risk your crew and ship over. It just gets a tad old. Another problem is un-lockable ships aren't the easiest to unlock and it'd be nice for the developers to include maybe an extra ship or two at the beginning to allow new people for more flexible game play initially. If you've got $10 and enjoy tactical game play with some luck involved, you won't be disappointed.

Dead Island4
Feb 3, 2012
Perseverance, that's what it took to complete this game. Let's start off with the good, nice open world with zombies and combat is fun albeit repetitive. The bad, the game has numerous bugs, awful character development, boring quests, awful leveling structure and a checkpoint system. Lets start with the bugs, which are still pretty bad even after half a year of release. The game has issues with sound, such as loud crackling and popping noises every once in a while. It progressively gets worse and worse until you reach the sewers where I had to throw my headphones off the audio was so loud. After that it sort of tapers off, but the sewers are a good ~10 hours in the game. The game's character development, as an RPG you'd think they'd invest some time into explaining characters. Nah, you're just there and the only information is the bio at the beginning, they introduce characters but they're cliche and you can't wait until they die. The quests are stupid and repetitive, Dead Island has two types of quests and doesn't even try to hide it. Fetch and escort, that's it. You may have one or two go here, fetch item and protect guy, but that's as interesting as the quests get. One of the problem with quests is there's no reason to do them. The enemies follow a strict level scaling and you never get the feeling that you've ever leveled up. Often times games introduce new abilities to offset this mechanic so it appears you get stronger compared to your opponent but you actually don't, Dead Island does none of this. Once I realized this towards the end of Act 2, I just stockpiled on decent weapons and avoided enemies and quests because I knew the faster I leveled the more obsolete my weapons would become. The checkpoint system is awful because of two reasons, it means I can't leave the game whenever I want; but the real problem with the checkpoint system is it's bugged. The checkpoint system leaves you in unexplained places upon your return. It happens from my count at least a third of my checkpoints left me in weird areas, two of the most noticeable were in Act 2 I left the game, when I returned the game placed my in the Jungle, which is Act 3. So I drove around for an hour trying to figure how to leave and finally just reloaded my last checkpoint which put me back in Act 2. Another checkpoint problem was I left the game and the quest had be going to some control panel to unlock doors, guess what the checkpoint did? It put me right in front of the control panels with the doors unlocked. There's plenty of WTF moments in Dead Island, and while I was able to beat the game by 50% of the main plot progress it was beating me down. The game's shortcomings all slowly start to beat you down until you no longer want to play. You'll spend more time screaming at the screen because of bug's than the actually difficulty. Game took ~16 hours for me to beat but towards 50% I was just rushing through everything just for the sake of completion and not fun.

Space Pirates and Zombies6

Game starts off good but quickly get's very repetitive with similar missions structures and constantly ransacking similar stations. Game is easily a 7 or so until you reach the final quarter of the game when you reach the core with different enemies and it just gets annoying. I found the game extremely easy but found it annoying that my Beam build was given the shaft on the last enemies and was forced to switch. Annoying and once I switched to an alternate weapon the game was ridiculous easily and the last quarter consisted of me raiding enemy outposts and pressing the fire button repeatedly. The last quarter of the game really just showed me how little there was to the game and really brought out the repetitive nature of it. Decent game but don't go playing full price until they add some content to the later levels.

Gemini Rue: Verschworung auf Barracus8
Jan 4, 2012
Definitely worth a purchase story, setting and characters are fantastic and the plot is good enough to carry the game. Puzzles are for the most part easy, sometimes so easy you miss the easy answers. Music and atmosphere are top notch and the game's overall story definitely ranks up there as one of the better ones in an adventure title. The bad? Well the voice actors are definitely flat, very monotone and somewhat hinder the game's overall story. Another low, the combat, it's just too awkward and infuriating at times. It's especially awkward fighting multiple enemies with your hits no registering but the enemies do, which leads to some deaths. Overall though for $10 it's hard not to recommend the game, yes the graphics look like Scumm's from the early '90's but it's hard to fault a game for the graphics when they don't hide the fact of their art direction. I thought the retro SCUMM graphics looked fantastic, but I can understand why others wouldn't enjoy it. FYI game clocks in around 6-9 hours for one play through, definitely a weekend game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim8
Nov 22, 2011
If it wasn't for The Witcher 2, this would definitely be Game of the Year but it has several shortcomings. The UI is definitely a console port mess, switching weapons, spells and shields during battles is often times a nightmare. You'll often get things mixed up, spells on the wrong hand, or weapon it's really a nightmare. Yes there are hotkeys but generally they don't help much when you're switching from spells to sword and boarding. Another problem is crafting is a pain, especially enchanting with the UI in place. Leveling up enchanting on weapons you've found is a pain. The level scaling system is back and it creates some odd problems. If you spent your first levels leveling up crafting trees before combat you'll often times face opponents far stronger than you because of your lack of combat skills. It's really annoying and I noticed this from the jump to 20-->30 because I spent around 5 levels crafting. It's annoying and they should really just ditch the idea, it doesn't promote exploration. It's annoying when you open a master safe and only get 12 gold. Really 12 gold for a master safe? The pros are well the skill system has been simplified now to perks on a little tree. It's simple and easier to understand than past Elder Scrolls. Dungeons have been vastly improved from Oblivion and are fun to just go exploring in for fun. Combat is a huge jump and the story is your typical DnD experience, it's predictable but your so lost in exploring you don't really care. Overall the game is great, it takes all the problems of Oblivion and fixes most, save for the annoying console UI, and I stress ANNOYING.

A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda5
Nov 16, 2011
A.R.E.S. is pretty much a Mega Man game without the charm. The game definitely gave me a trip down memory lane when I was a kid playing Mega Man 8 and X. The problem is the certain controls are poorly thought out. Jumping in the game is a chore due to the fact that often times you'll double jump too early because the implementation with the space bar is poor. The shooting mechanics are average and certain ideas aren't fleshed out that well. For example there's different suits but they offer no advantages over others. Enemies are easily disposed off because of their awful aim. Bosses really are just run and gun and hope you hurt him. There's really no puzzles to solve for them, you just aim and shoot. The story is well, there. The game does have different ranks you can achieve by playing levels better so if you're OCD about that I suppose there's a perk. For $10 it's hard to recommend the game especially because it can be beaten in one sitting, definitely try before you buy and wait for a sale.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution5
Oct 24, 2011
Game starts out decent but quickly goes downhill. The game play is meh, stealth mechanics feel dated, like Deus Ex dated. The cover system is finicky and often times you'll have trouble sticking to surfaces until you turn on the "Toggle Cover," which is still infuriating. The games enemies are predictable and there's not a lot of variety between them other than bigger guns and color scheme. They don't seem to get any smarter and there's little variety in game play amongst missions. Generally you run around quietly, find some boxes, move the boxes and enter vent. Hacking is way too central to the game and action orientated players will be somewhat sad as the game forces you into a more stealthy character as there aren't a lot of augmentations for combat characters other than recoil and armor. The game's settings especially the city hubs are poorly laid out, the side quests are awful, and having to walk 1 to 2 minutes back and forth multiple times in hubs gets extremely annoying. They should've been omitted completely and stuck to a more traditional format instead of the awful hub. The story was extremely boring because it's so predictable. Anyone who has at least read some literature for pleasure can easily pick up who's the bad guy and what's going to happen. The dialogue and voice actors in general are terrible and really grated me, especially Jensen's voice. Overall the game's average and I'd have a hard time recommending it to anyone unless it's $10.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings9
Sep 2, 2011
This is how to make a sequel, it takes all of the problems with The Witcher, and improves upon all aspects of the game. The game simplifies combat and eradicates the stances, and quick and strong attacks are simply left and right clicks away a vast improvement over the original. The game is overall very linear in direct on where you go but the choices you make impact the story greatly, if you've played number one you know what to expect and will enjoy the game tremendously. The few qualms with the game is the difficulty at best is erratic, at first it's somewhat brutal but towards the end Geralt can literally brush off most encounters with ease. Loading screens, which you'll see a lot, are too long and really disconnect from the game and the way zones are loaded together can become a nuisance when you're following/escorting someone. Targeting in the game is iffy at best as in noncombat situations selected items in the world is a definite pain and in fights with multiple enemies sometimes the wrong enemy will be attacked which is a nuisance. Overall for any RPG fan this is a can't miss game, the game has it's shortcomings but overall is a solid product. The game looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, and plays beautifully. Any RPG fan who hasn't played this gem deserves to treat themselves to such a fine game.

Good game but there's not much in the way of challenge. Pretty simple to just pick up and play, controls at first can be somewhat of a pain to get the hang of but they become second nature after the first couple of levels. Nice variety of levels, the art direction is humorous and the music is terrific. Overall a great game to relax to but there's not a lot in the way of difficulty and can be a short game if you power your way through it. This was a great game to have a few brews to and play.

Potential to be a great game but drops the ball in many areas which leads to distinctly average and extremely frustrating at time game. You're a runner and you essentially run around, on paper it sounds like a pretty boring game but to my surprise it was actually pretty fun when you got to RUN. The game forces you into confined areas, which wouldn't be so bad the problem arises is that you can't run. These sequences inside turn into some of the most boring moments I've ever experienced in my life, simply because there's no sense of speed which seems to be the game's major concept. Another problem is how draconian the detection system is when interacting with objects, if you're off by a hair. You're dead. This becomes extremely frustrating when you're doing actions correctly time and time again only you didn't orient yourself properly during a jump or before the jump and you end up falling to your death. Another problem is some objects aren't interactable at times in the game. This tends to be very frustrating early on until you realize what can and can't be grabbed onto. The combat system is horrendous and coming from DICE that's a disgrace. For some reason they decided to include a aim assist while that works with gun, it's not so good when you're two or three feet from an enemy and are try to fight multiple enemies at one time. The combat is one of the game's biggest failings and make dealing with enemies one of the most painful portions of the game. The graphics/art direction are just horrendous. Whoever decided that making the color white a dominant feature throughout the game whilst turning bloom on full blast should be shot. It at times making lining up jumps difficult because you can't see what you're doing this coupled with the detection system can be troublesome at times. This is one the only game where I felt like putting on sunglasses just to dim the bloom. The sound is... pretty much not there. There's nothing really remarkable about it and the only time I realize there was music was during the elevator sessions. The game to me can essentially be summed up pretty simply as this, run around, get lost, get blinded from bloom and get crammed in an elevator. Rinse and repeat, the story is awful, there's not much variety in locales and other then the awful detection system the game has an interesting concept it just really doesn't do much to support it. And whoever designed the elevator sequences/loading screens should be fired. There's nothing to do but listen to muzak and read tiny newspaper articles and sit confined for 15-30 seconds while it loads.
