It is a fine film but does not approach anything with real emotional stakes or weight behind it. The action is good but unmemorable, and is too derivative or Gunns previous movies (slow-mo single take scenes to pop music, anyone?). It is also crammed with too many characters and too many plot elements leaving each individual element - whilst done well - undercooked. The vital elements to a Superman story e.g. Lois/Clarks relationship, Martha and Jonathan Kents influence on Clark, and Luthors rationale behind his hatred of Superman each get a short scene before rapidly moving on to more quirky, and less weighty endeavours. By the end you won't have felt you wasted your time, though you will have felt you've seen it all before.

Certainly the best MCU movie since endgame. Lots of gags that hit the mark, a fitting tribute to Fox's Marvel movies, and some great action.

This movie doesn't really do anything well, other than the crisp dialogue that Baumbach always delivers. It's a film that's not really about anything. At a guess, I could say it's about sisterhood, marriages, parenthood... but nothing really happens to explore these themes in any depth. Half a dozen incidents occur which seem to hint at the development of a storyline, but these never go anywhere. Worse, none of the characters are likeable or even enjoyable to watch with the exception of Jack Black.

In my 31 years I have never shed a tear at a movie - until now. In fact, this had me weepy for 10 minutes at the end and 10 minutes after it had ended. This is a film that stays with you. It's a film about brotherhood, overcoming tragedy, and the pressure and solace of family. It features exceptional performances from all the main cast members and has the most effective and powerful use of an original song in a movie that I have ever seen. I'd also add that, whilst this is really a film about men and brothers - with a healthy dollop of wrestling scenes - women will still enjoy this film. My girlfriend knows nothing about wrestling but gave it a 9.5 and said it will most likely be her favourite film of 2024.

Not quite as successful as Payne's Sideways but very close and I'm sure some will prefer it. Perfectly blends his style of humour and unique, situational emotional moments, and gives us three wonderfully characterised people to spend a couple of hours with over the Christmas break.

The Zone of Uninterest, more like. What a snooze-fest! Nothing noteworthy occurs throughout the entire runtime. This film is a one-trick pony, and it's an impressively mundane trick.

I love Sparks but this is literally the worst movie I've ever seen and it's not even close.

If you've ever seen a marvel movie you pretty much know what you're getting here. Doesn't break any new ground, the superhero origin story is formulaic and well-trodden territory for Marvel. This however has some of the best fight scenes which is it's main draw but some of its most lacking characters, particularly the protagonist and antagonist who are both devoid of any personality whatsoever and are hampered by having 3 minor female characters around them who can beat them in a fight, zapping the final confrontation between the two of much tension

This film is reminiscent of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Batman vs Superman. It's a product, made by a corporation, with the intent of trying to please as many fanboys as possible. In the end, it accomplishes nothing it sets out to achieve.
