Please understand this is not Dead Island 2, this is Riptide--do not consider this a sequal but a continuation of the original (a bulk DLC if anything). There is not much new to be done that the first game did not already take care of--there are some new "monsters" such as the Grenadier and Wrestler, some new weapons like the Shovel, Claws, and Staff; but this is the same game, with some boats. Those scoring the game low need to take into account the price and their feelings on the first game. If you liked the first game it is difficult to understand why you wouldn't like the same thing... Critics and Users need to realize this is Dead Island, a different Island--but the same game in the series. Listen to me rant more on the Liquid Gamer Podcast where we do an entire show on DI: Riptide. on the LIQUID GAMER PODCAST.
I haven't seen a game reviewed this poorly since The Expendables 2 Videogame! The game looks great, gives the player multiple experiences on one disc, enhances on the series, and is kick ass. What is going on here??? The story and the way it ties with each character is beyond good, it's great. The fear is not totally in your face but the feeling of isolation at points can be terrifying. Do I like it more than a lot of games I have played... No. Do I recommend it to purchase... No. Do I think it deserves a 2 or a 4... Hell no. And if you think that it is worse than Operation Raccoon City... You should be put in a mental institution. I would love to read some thoughts from the haters and talk about what they think on the podcast, send me a tweet @LiquidPodcast so I can get your opinions out to my listeners. I'd like a healthy debate. And hear my full review with your comments on the show, ****
What happened??? I only gave it a 2 because I liked the music, quality of the commentators, and Blacktop. Character creation and My Player is horrible, nothing kept me interested in playing this game. It feels like they took a great franchise and smashed it with a cinder block and took the remains and through them in a fire. I was a huge fan of 2K12, looked great, played great, felt right... ... This is not a good sign of things to come 2K. You really need to get back "in the game", before EA releases their title next year. Hear my full review on the show, ****
I needed this to come out! Taking financial simulation, turned based strategy, and life and death decision making is nothing short of genius. I am a huge fan of Valkeria Chronicles on the PS3, so this game is pretty much my cup of joe. Sure the graphics could be better, the loadouts are generic, and the first mission is boring as can be; but who cares if it plays well when all is said and done... Me. I will be putting a lot of hours into this game, it is looking to be the GAME OF THE MONTH unless something comes out that is better. We will find out soon when we record. Not sure what is with all the negative reviews. The big news here is the Shoulder Mounted Flashlight. Nuff said. Totally worth the purchase, especially if you want to combine the love of retro games that you may or may not have grown up with along with an enhanced version of the game that rebooted the franchise. This is really just a precursor to Doom 4 to get people more familiar with the history of the games. Now I will admit playing Doom and Doom II on the console was weird and awkward at times, but Doom 3 played hard and looked hot. Hear my full review on the show, ****
I am not a dancer per say, but I did enjoy playing this game more than the others in the series. I enjoy the range of music, which is why it is getting a 7. It's like taking a part in the history of dancing music, but still needs some tweaks. I'll explain in detail on the Podcast. Hear my full review on the show, ****
I am not the biggest driving game guy, I have a car, it's fast, I'm good. But Horizon brings fun back to the genre like Burnout Paradise before it. We see a similar layout and gameplay as Forza 4, but the open world and character driven storyline help make this stand out amongst other driving games. A fun time and good game all in all,It doesn't seem to be as good looking as 4, however the new arcade style makes up for it in play. Hear my full review on the show, ****
I personally think we have all been tricked. The hype and amount of awards this game came out with is undeserving. I am a HUGE Bethesda fanboy, so I pre-ordered this title months ago, and I am more than a little upset. The more you play the better it gets but it is a sad version of what could be a great game. If you are playing on PC then you have a leg up, if you were unfortunate enough to get it on console--I'm sorry for your loss. Graphics---Week, Storyline---Seen it before, Concept---Truly awesome... Basically it is Bethesda's answer to BioShock fans. As a reviewer of games as a hobby (Liquid Gamer Podcast), I get to play a lot of games, and this was disappointing. Although the idea is outstanding, the execution is lacking. Hear my full review on the show, ****
It's hard to not like this game. As the first game brought the Lego Universe in to High Definition, the second brings another milestone with talking characters. This time we know WHY characters are doing things. The story makes sense, which makes me less confused and much happier than I was with the first game. However they did not do much in changing the story mode gameplay, if anything the new suits were just "okay" and most the events felt predictable. The real gem here is the HUB where we casually navigate around in all Lego Games, however Tell Tale gives us 500sq miles of Lego bricks to explore and roam freely. Even as some of DCs most powerful heroes. Just flying as Superman with John Williams classic music fades in is a great experience. Hear the full review on the podcast; ****/
A refreshing take on your standard third person shooter. Keep in mind you have to play at least half way through the 6 hour campaign before things really get interesting. Up until that point your just shooting and covering a lot telling your team to do as much of the work for you as possible. What gives this game a high score is its eventual story arcs and plot twists. I do not want to have this review contain spoilers so I will go no further. Hear the full review on the podcast; ****/
I cannot believe the high scores for this travesty of a Spiderman Game. Throughout the years Spiderman has revolutionized the sandbox experience and created an environment that required skill and strategy to navigate through. You would have to be a pretty soft gamer to think this was a great gaming experience. IT felt like handholding was taking place throughout the entire game. Swinging from non existent buildings, freezing time to make even noobs bored, and the graphics were put solely into Spidey's suit and ignored all other aspects of rendering. Please take this review into consideration when deciding whether or not to purchase this game. Hear the full review on the podcast; ****/
Wow, this was good. As far as tactical games, nothing gets better outside an RTS. Sync Shot is unlike anything else, if your looking for a third person shooter that stands out above all us in graphics and rich story, this is your answer. The technology within the game, is pretty cool. Please understand I am MGS guy, so this kind of game is right up my alley. It has a nice rich story line with your typical Clancy plot twists and dialogue. The only issue would be the lack of control at multiple points, you think your playing but if you try moving you realize it is a cutscene, which gets frustrating, but still a great game and worth your time from start to finish. Huge Warhawk fan here, and this game turned up the dial for this addition to the franchise, but didn't extend their creative arms as much as they could. The Pros; gameplay has been revolutionized, I mean Mechs? Can't go wrong with a Piloting system that transforms into a Mech. Audio was epic, be it the score or the sound effects. Graphics are a huge improvement from Warhawk while keeping the same mechanics but with a few extras. Single player story was short, but worth its quick play through. Now the Cons; Graphic Novel style cut scenes seem to be overdone with Sony, enough is enough and it feels like a cop-out since the character isn't very comic-booky. The graphics could be improved but it doesn't take away from the gameplay. You can always use more weapons choices, but the multiplayer is so addictive it doesn't feel like an issue. Great game, but could be improved on. Still worth owning it, maybe once it goes on sale.
Even though the anticipation for this game will never live up to the actual product, I enjoyed playing Max Payne 3. What I did not enjoy was the length of the checkpoints. Talk about a game of headaches. If anything it is my own fault because I played on Free Aim, which makes things a lot more difficult, but if you want the achievements/trophies, you better turn it on Free Aim. Multiplayer was chaotic, not as cinematic and glorious as advertised. A fun game, worth playing, great dialogue and action which is expected from Max, but wish the game had more of a RDR multiplayer. When it comes to a 'book to television show to game' this is pretty bad. As a fan of turn based RPG's like Dragon Age and Knights of the Old Republic, this just doesn't stand up to the competition. It has an excellent story that goes side by side during the events of the HBO series, but falls short in mechanics and graphics. The game takes you into the role of two characters, which is the first mistake. Give us options! We are in a vast era of gaming and to not have creation options in an RPG is unheard of now-a-days. Progression is slow when it comes to leveling. Then to add insult to injury, it doesn't look that good. Hear the full review on the podcast; ****/
Didn't expect to enjoy the game this much. It is always nice that when a company listens to the criticism of the previous game and improves upon it. The biggest improvement is the Main Character, James Heller. In the last game I realized while playing this one why I didn't like it... Because the Alex Mercer is a tool and I didn't like him at all (with his Steve Buscemi eyes). Even though the game does not have much **** update the playability has been improved and the story remains intriguing throughout. If you like Crackdown (360) or Infamous (PS3) this will be a good next step. If you didn't like the first Prototype, I would give this one a shot. Here my full review on the podcast! ****/
Just want to start out by saying I have played BOTH the PC and Console versions of the game, will not be giving it either a 0 or a 10 like most on here, and do not work for WB. I am just a lonely podcaster (LIQUID GAMER) trying to let you know what I thought of this game on console. First off the good, game play worked well with the controller, I was worried about that. Besides a few misses the graphics are slightly dumb'ed down than its PC counterpart, still colorful and well executed. And the story is and will continue to be excellent and intriguing. Unlike other RPG's the choices you make matter more than just giving you horns or orange scratches on your skin. They will adjust the story and the way things in the world play out. So choose wisely and enjoy it! Now for the not so good... Audio is a big part of gaming in my point of view, even though the score is great the voice acting and recording quality from that voice acting is horrible. Some moments felt as if the voice actors called in the lines over a land line to a cassette tape and then digitized for the game. Very noticeable and very bad. The game was glitchy but most games are now a days so I didn't mind it that much. So that's it, great game all in all, worth ownership due to length and involvement, but not work a 10 and totally not a 0. Good Gaming! ****/
I have an idea. Let's combine two of the greatest RPG's of all time in a dual pack. That's a great idea. I know that it may seem silly to review games that have been out as long as these two (2006-2008), but Bethesda thought to do it, so I will review it. Please understand that I am an RPG fanatic and Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time... So I will try to be unbiased. If you have not played either of these games, first off shame on you, secondly go pick it up. $30 on console and $20 on PC. I cannot imagine anyone having an issue with one or let alone both of these games. Open world, customizable characters and weapons, it's two very opposite worlds on one very similar mechanic. The only thing I stress is that these games may engulf your life and together will cause turmoil in your personal lives. So even though I recommend you buy them please take the doses sparingly. As we say on my podcast, good gaming! ****/
Adorable characters in a wonderful environment. This was a platformer done right in my opinion. 8-bit 2D worlds that could be manipulated to 3D. Soundtrack is epic, like LoZ epic. Jump, twist, vine climb, fall... awesome! Smooth gameplay and a joy to play. Repitition comes into play but they try to mix it up with a deteriating screen. Good times. ****/
What did you expect? I am a huge Star Wars guy, always have been, always will be. But the Kinect and I never have been the best of friends. I had the most fun when C3P0 and R2-D2 couldn't fine me and kept looking around for me with a lot of funny banter. "Oh dear, where could the commander have gone?" Throughout most of the game I was bored but was happy with the motion capabilities when using the lightsaber. However the podracing was awful and I didn't even attempt to dance. For what it was I enjoyed myself but kept wanting to sit down and watch the cut scenes, there are a lot of them, but then I would be logged out and have to log in again... Endless cycle of annoying events. Worth playing for a day but not worth owning.
Well you would think that this would be the best idea ever... It was not! If anything seeing my favorite Tekken characters in this art style was nauseating. Why no Panda suit for the Bear? I do not know why anyone would give this game a good score, it is shocking that people thought this was "fun" when it was a mess throughout. Street Fighter needs to take a break and quit producing trash. It was a solid game as a arcade fighting game but keep my Tekken characters out of it. If anything I want Tekken Cross Street Fighter, play MvC or SSF4. It's all the same thing with different bells and whistles. ****/
The franchise parody known as Operation Raccoon City... What a dissapointment this game was. This is run and gun trash out its worst. There were 6 out most builds for zombies, so if there are 20 zombies on the screen the majority of them will be wearing the same thing--it was the Super Mario 2 of Resident Evil games. I couldn't have been more upset with this title. We all just need to wait for SIX to come out near the end of the year... This should have been a XBLA game for 1200 points, not a retail waste of shelf space. ****/
Not sure why everyone hates this game so much. It had better locations than all previous NG games and the additions of slo-mo kills and a better save system make this a much better experience than games past. It does NOT have a lot of replay value if any, but it was good--it was easy though... Maybe too easy to be given the NG name. Even though it was less ninja and more button masher, the game still was a blast and kept me playing to the end. Quit hating! ****/
So fast and chaotic that it has to be fun, right? Well it was fun but it wasn't completely epic. Since 'Black' I forgot how twisted the series really is. It is really messed up at times. The grindhouse storyline was not bad, but it was too short. The graphics were not bad but not with the times. The option to use any vehicle with any character was just stupid. It is an awesome game but I expected so much more with the PS3 powering this franchise powerhouse. A good time but a waste of time. ****/
Even though I am lost in the story throughout the time I played it, I liked it more than XIII. Say what you will but it is hard to give a FF game a bad score since the graphics far surpass most titles out there. I wish it was not a '-2' title, it is good if not better than its predesessor. I like the changes made and the game was worth playing just to see the story through to the end.
The battle begins but it didn't end the way anyone wanted (which can be seen from the user score). I have never seen such outrage from a game before, the gaming community went crazy over this title and the fate of those in the series. The first levels seemed beta'ish and unfinished. The rest of the game was great... But, why in the hell would you get rid of the Elevator scenes that replaced load screens??? Why??? And the vehicle aspect... gone? Why? A great game that did not stand up to everyone's expectations. Did it make the game of the month on the podcast... Take a listen... ****/
Great concept, fun to play... But I am not the biggest FPS supporter. It had some unique qualities but the story and voice acting kept me unattached to the main character. "Terminatrix" is the term coined on the podcast referring to this title. I liked it but I sure didn't love it.
What a great experience and I recommend this game to any GoW or Fable fan out there. Totally awesome once you get your hands on some chakram and really take advantage of the speed and finesse of this game. If the graphics were bumped up just a bit I would give it a 10. The score was epic in an Elfman'esque style and the character design is conceptually awesome. I went in not expecting such a great game. Get it! ****/
What a great spin on the franchise. Excellent new physics elements with gravity coming into play. I enjoyed it and will always play it when I am bored on my iPhone. ****/
Yikes, if Mr. Mike Goldberg would shut up I would have enjoyed it more. I have liked all the previous games and the blood physics were great. But it felt uninspired and clunky throughout. Enjoyable experience as the previous but not my favorite of the ****/
Funky Cold Medina! Great soundtrack to be honest. Very fun and interesting game but the story was a little cliche at times. I enjoyed the overall experience but the cell shaded graphics didn't fit the genre. ****/
It was great to see a new SoulCalibur get released this year. Based off of 'special guests' I was concerned who would be added to the mix. Etzio fit into the genre and setting but it didn't work out as much as I wanted it to. The story was awesome but was able to beat very quickly. If you love IV then V is the same thing with a few variations on characters. ****/
Even though this game combined the best of both Ninja Storm games it added nothing new to the mix. I enjoyed the gameplay, story, and music--but this was nothing new compared to the rest besides the large roster. I look forward to all Naruto games in the future but it is important to ALWAYS add a new element each go around. ****/
