I almost skipped on this game. I heard it was turn based, so I decided to look up reviews. I saw other people comparing this to Final Fantasy 6, Mass Effect, and other classics. It is fantastic.
I am absolutely astonished at the quality of this game while simultaneously hearing nothing about this game. FF tactics is one of my favorite games. It is clear that this game takes inspiration from that game. What I didn't anticipate was that this game would be a more refined version of what I love. Thank you developers, awesome job!
Ah, I really love this game. This title feels a little more like an RPG than the other souls games. This just really meshes well with what I like. I love dual wielding, the new game plus, and just a lot of random little things. DS2 is usually looked at like the black sheep of the souls series, to me though, it's my favorite.
I don't want to say this is a bad game, I think what I was expecting was simply very different than what I got. While not action packed, I think the story it tells is told well, although the story can be a little slow at times. Don't want to be too harsh on something that probably wasn't for me to begin with.
First off, I love the original Spelunky. I spent a lot of time with that game and it is a true classic to me. Having said that I've soured on Spelunky 2. The game itself is a rouglike but there are some repeating elements that happen on every run (like fighting a boss on the 4th level). The problem is the gameplay loop results in doing the same exact tasks followed rng/randomgess making the player do the same tasks, encounter something new and die, and then spend time doing the same tasks again to try to progress. The complexity of making it to the secret area is more frustrating than fun. The liquid dynamics look great but can create some levels that seem a little unfair. Oh and a big thing is taming animals takes too much time. So runs can also feel like they are wasting time followed by a death that's hard to predict.
This game often feels like propaganda. The political agenda takes precedence above all else. In many ways this game reminds me of Mass Effect Andromeda. Both were established and beloved game series that were hijacked for political purposes. The writing in both also feels too contemporary too. In the LOU2 there is a line about bigot sandwiches. I just feel that a zombie apocalypse is a really poor setting for these political messages. In an apocalypse people should be concerned with food, shelter and zombies... not "bigot sandwiches." In many ways it feels like a strange continuation. Also how buff Abby was very strange. That body type is very hard to attain and probably impossible to attain in an food scarce apocalypse. Overall this game feels like such a strange way to continue the story, certain political aspects feel forced which to me makes it feel like propaganda. A score of 0 may seem harsh for such a beautiful game, but the 0 score comes from how much enjoyment I got from this game.
The flaws that exist in Death Stranding are very similar to the flaws that existed in MGS5. There are interesting ideas interwoven with boring and repetitive game play. Kojima always offers interesting ideas, but his last few games he seems to have grown comfortable with boring segments within his games. Here is a little summary below. This game was pure excellence. I very much like Telltale style games and other David Cage games. This is the best game of this style I have played. This is even better than Heavy Rain, Indigo Prophecy, and Telltale's Walking Dead Season 1. I liked the story and decisions were so fun. I just liked the setting and the characters quite a bit. I quite honestly put this up there with some of the best games I've ever played. I really hope this game gets the praise it deserves.
The most original game I've ever played. The beginning sequence is one of the best moments in any video game I've ever played. This game has some highs and lows in terms of fun, but the best moments in this game are the best out of any game I've ever played.
One of the most fun and original fighting games I've ever played. It's simple, and I believe thats where some of the negative reviews come from. If you have a competitive buddy who wants to play a fighting game, this is the game for you.
This game was an entirely unique experience. Deadly Premonition had a truly likable main character. This is so rare in modern games. This overshadows any flaws it may have had.
When this game came out on the SNES I would have given it a 10. When it was released on the Playstation I would have still given it a 10. I even had fun playing this as a rom and as an iso. To me this is the fifth installment of this game. I like this game, but I would have liked some new features to be added. I also heard Chrono Break was cancelled because this game didn't sell well. Really? Does SquareEnix really expect a game that has been rereleased so many times to sell well? SquareEnix seems to rely on Squaresoft's accomplishments while failing to succeed on their own. I wish Squaresoft still existed.
Cons: I died more from motorcycle, train, and plane crashes than zombies; not kidding one bit. I have to admit I laughed more than I felt scared during this game... but I kinda liked that. Pros: Sure, this game was ridiculous and not what I expected at all. I can't really comprehend what the game developers were thinking, but the end result is this unintentionally funny game that's fun to play. I felt like this was a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie at times, that's why this game gets an 8. Overall: After playing Resident Evil 5, I was left wanting a scarier game. I assumed that Resident Evil 6 was going to go back to the horror roots of the franchise. When I first played RE6, the lack of horror seemed to stand out. I do believe this game is worth playing, I enjoyed mercenaries mode like always. Although, I am somewhat happy to see the backlash of reviews from fans. Sure I liked this game, but I would have liked it more if it was scarier.
Sweeter than honey. This game is the best Jrpg on the 360 by far. The game is just soooo pretty to look at. The characters are likeable (which is getting harder to find with jrpgs). I understand that this game has some clichés but to me it felt like a sweet throwback. This game puts its twist on the conventions. I like this game so much because it is fun continuously. That's really all I need in a game.
Preview: I was really surprised by how high the metacritic rating for this game was. It actually inspired me to create an account just so give my take on this game. First, I'm a huge ff fan. Here is my ranking of the ff games I've played from best to worst. Ff6, ff tactics, ff9, ff7, ff8 (squalls dead theory), ff4, ff1, ff10, ff 2, ff 3, FF12, ff 13, ff tactics advanced. So you can see I don't think that highly of final fantasy 12 compared to other games in the series. Ill simply break it downs to pros and cons. Pros: The graphics are some of the best on the ps2. The art style is very good. Of course, there are some good musical tracks which are good, but pretty similar to the rest of the series. Cons: This game feels like it was a ten hour long game and the designers decided to make it a 200hr long video game. There is simply too much padding and filler in this game. The story is okay (convoluted like many of recent square enix games). But how the story is told is just awful. It is a slow progressing political story but it near impossible to follow it on your first play-through since it literally can take 5 to 10 hrs to get to the next story point. To walk from one side of the map to another it seems like it takes 45 minutes to do so. I suppose if you want to get lost in a game, this game has the potential because it is so big but I prefer quality of quantity. Also the main character is terrible. He is very uninteresting and so secondary to the plot it makes you curious what point he serves. Also how people equip armor in this game may be my least favorite of the series. It's possible for your character to have a weapon that he/she cannot use because you have not got that exact square of this semi random grid. Overall, there are some fun aspects to this game but most of the gameplay seems like it was tailored to waste your time. Too much padding between towns, dungeons are way too big and there are too many of them. The towns aren't fun because the leading character is so unlikable. I understand that the series is trying to adapt and change but I think this game was a step back for the series. That's why I wish the critic score would reflect that.
