It is very difficult to find something to compliment in this movie. The directing and cinematography is flat and uninteresting. Two shots wowed me in the entire movie; fairly basic shots, mind you, they were just better than the others. The acting is atrocious, and sadly, the worst performances are given by adults. The dance scenes were very cringy and uninspired, except for one. The script is extremely cheesy and ham fisted. One scene had a fair bit of tension I didn't expect, but it was edited so poorly that it was difficult to understand what was happening before it ended 30 seconds later. And no spoilers, but the ending and climax are the most predictable beats this kind of story can hit.

Despite the talent of the David Ayer and Brad Pitt, this movie falls flat in almost every respect. I did enjoy parts of it, but overall the script is what kills it for me. There are excellent scenes that kept me engaged (two now that I'm thinking about it), but the dialogue is super cheesy, the characters are all one-note, and worst of all there are setups and ideas stolen directly from better films in the genre! No spoilers, but if you want an excellent WWII movie, Saving Private Ryan is a must-see. This movie does not need to exist.

This is one of the best comic book movies ever released. The look, cinematography, acting, and action are all perfect. Elements of the script are cheesy, but I chalk it up to its origins as a comic book.

The only thing holding this movie together is the acting and large-scale zombie attacks. I liked the Lord of the Flies connections, but at its core the film is a failure. It's a horror movie that isn't scary, an action movie with bad action, and a drama with cheesy writing. I did care about a few characters, but that was only due to the likability of the actors and their performances.

The film is great: acting, writing, action, and cinematography. That's all a movie really needs.

This film is an absolute must-see! The acting is phenomenal (outside of the kid actor), the action is very inspired (violent but rather tasteful), and the bizarre scenes and music are very brave, and in my opinion, excellent. The quick flashes of exposition that help us learn more about Phoenix's character that are littered throughout the movie are amazing. The writing is immaculate and very surprising when appropriate; and the writer is not afraid to have long scenes.

A few unearned jumpscares, underwhelming ending, but great symbolism/design
