Castlevania: Lords of Shadow9
Feb 19, 2012
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is an awesome game. I've played some of the 2D Castlevania games and I enjoyed them but I can honestly say that I think this is a great new direction for the series to take. Lords of Shadow has a few flaws, and can be a bit frustrating at times, but the rich world, excellent combat, and epic story combined with the game's length make up for that in the long run, which is why I'm giving it a 9 out of 10. Anyone who likes grandiose adventures should go buy this now!

Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga9
May 28, 2011
After I saw this game while I was browsing the Xbox Game Marketplace, I wasn't expecting it to be incredibly good. But because the premise sounded cool to me (play as a knight who can transform into a dragon?!) I decided to get the demo. My first impression was that Divinity II was nothing more than a cheap Dragon Age rip-off, but I was wrong. This game has the old-school feel that Dragon Age nailed, combined with the exploration and awesome character building of Oblivion. I haven't gotten to play as a dragon yet, but I'm really liking the game so far. I will update my review once I finish the demo, but so far I recommend this to any RPG fan!

Section 8: Prejudice9
May 5, 2011
I had heard about the original Section 8 and was disappointed when it received mediocre reviews from critics at release, because I thought the gameplay mechanics sounded cool. So when an ad for the sequel showed up on my xbox dashboard, I wasn't sure what to think. After a few days I decided to download the trial. My first impression? HOLY F*** THIS IS COOL. I loved the overdrive and jetpack abilities, and the spawning system was just plain awesome. Then I started playing multiplayer and was very pleasantly surprised by how solid it was. If you like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer at all, you'll almost certainly enjoy this $15 shooter. It's strategic, rewarding fun.

Dragon Age: Origins9
Mar 11, 2011
It's much more linear than a game like Oblivion, but that's okay because all of paths you are able to go on are awesome. Dragon Age Origins feels like an old-school RPG in the best way possible. The combat is paced so that you can strategize effectively and still feel the excitement of battle, and the story and characters are excellent. My highest recommendations for any RPG fan.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - First Strike8
Feb 5, 2011
First Strike contains some of the best maps that Black Ops has to offer. Some of the map-specific obstacles like the auto turrets on Berlin Wall and the zipline on Kowloon might seem gimmicky at first, but their inclusion adds variety and challenge, and I never really found myself frustrated with them. On the other hand the only map I didn't really like was Stadium, which doesn't work very well for Team Deathmatch or Free-for-All. However I'm sure it would work better for objective modes (which I have yet to play on it.) Ascension is more of the zombie-killing fun we're all familiar with at this point, which is always good. Plus, there were monkeys! How can you possibly lose with that? Overall, First Strike is a solid but pricey download that is definitely worth your time if you have a lot of friends that play Black Ops.

Fable II8
Jan 9, 2011
I really don't understand why the user reviews for this game are so low, because Fable II is a lot of fun. Sure, it's fairly linear and the gameplay can become pretty simple, but it's still a very well-designed adventure. Some people might argue that there isn't enough to do, but you really need to appreciate the things you CAN do, because those things are very enjoyable.

Dead Space (2008)9
Dec 30, 2010
An epic, atmospheric game that sets a new standard for survival horror. I haven't had so much fun being scared in space since I watched the first Alien movie. The only complaint I have is that the only downloadable content packages are all just new suits of armor that don't change the gameplay much. However, since Dead Space 2 is coming out within the next month I won't have to wait long to get a second dose of this awesomeness.

DOOM 38
Dec 30, 2010
It's simple, scary fun. As I am writing this review, Microsoft has already shut down the original Xbox online servers, so I can't play co-op or multiplayer. That's a shame because the production of the single-player is fantastic, so I would assume that the other modes would be great too. Repetitive scenery is probably my only gripe, otherwise the gameplay is awesome.

It's an okay linear adventure game, but at the same time it kinda ****. Which makes the fact that it's the best 3D Sonic game I've ever played seem even more tragic. There was a little fun to be had but otherwise you should avoid Sonic Heroes if you can.

Fallout: New Vegas8
Dec 17, 2010
It seems like everyone who reviews this game can only focus on the glitches and bugs. But now that most of them have been fixed by patches, it really should be clear that Fallout: New Vegas was a great game all along, underneath its technical failings. Sure, it's more of the same stuff as Fallout 3. But it also changes and adds several new features that make it feel fresh even if the core gameplay is based off a previous formula. The game world itself is also very fun and interesting to explore, which is probably the most important part of a Fallout game. I recommend it to anyone that liked Fallout 3.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 28
Nov 26, 2010
Modern Warfare 2 is a very well-made game, but it's only as fun as the people you play with. Also, even though Spec Ops is fun for a little while, the campaign has its fair share of weak moments, and the story frequently doesn't make sense. Black Ops is probably better.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare8

Call of Duty: Black Ops9
Nov 24, 2010
It's a much better game than Modern Warfare 2, but it doesn't really feel as fresh as it probably should. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker9
Nov 16, 2010
People should stop complaining about how bad the graphics are, they're actually really good. I didn't like how Link looked like an annoying little kid either, and the storyline is a bit immature but the gameplay is possibly the best there has ever been in Zelda. There are WAY more sidequests than in Ocarina of Time (and maybe even Majora's Mask) and the dungeons are a blast to play through, evne if they are a bit easy. Definitely worth your time.

Fallout 3: The Pitt7
Nov 16, 2010
I found The Pitt to be a lot of fun personally. The only real problem I have is that once you're done with the main quest, all there really is to do is go collect steel bars which isn't that fun to do. But the main quest itself is great, and that's enough to make The Pitt worth your time.

Fallout 3 - Operation: Anchorage6
Nov 15, 2010
Fallout 3 is all about exploring and character customization, so if there is going to be DLC for it, that download should give us more of those two primary things. But Operation Anchorage is just a lot of shooting mindless enemies. It's worth playing for the items you get at the end, but only that.

I have played both versions of Super Mario 64 and gotten 100% on each, and honestly I think that this version is actually better in terms of design. New Super Mario Bros.9
Nov 11, 2010
One of the best games on the DS, and an incredibly rewarding experience. New Super Mario Bros. takes what was originally great about the NES and SNES games and, well, makes it NEW. Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones9
Nov 9, 2010
The best game in the Sands of Time trilogy. It brings several new features to the gameplay while improving on the older mechanics. Best of all, the Prince himself is no longer a moody antihero, and has changed back into the charming and eccentric swashbuckler he was in the first game. The story is pretty great too, having the feel of an action movie. Overall definitely worth a purchase.

Mass Effect 29
Nov 7, 2010
Mass Effect 2 is even better than the original. Just about every problem that people had with the first one has been fixed in this sequel. The combat is smoother and more fun, the dialogue has been made even better (yes, that's possible) and the side quests are no longer repetitive sequences of driving around an empty planet in your tank. The only thing that makes this game not deserve a 10 is some pacing issues early on in the game, but that's a minor complaint. Otherwise, Mass Effect 2 definitely deserves its 96 metascore.

Mass Effect9
Nov 7, 2010
An amazing adventure. Mass Effect captures the epic sci-fi atmosphere of movies like Star Trek, Star Wars and the Alien series while still offering tons of new content. Some people might not like the amount of information gathering that has to be done in the early parts of the game but I found them interesting anyway, and even if you personally don't like it there's enough action and freedom to satisfy you if you have a little patience to play through those parts. The only gripes I have with the game would probably be that managing abilities in combat can be a little tricky, and that the NPCs could be a little smarter while fighting. But even with those complaints, Mass Effect still has enough fun in it to satisfy just about anyone.

Perfect Dark (2000)8
Nov 7, 2010
By modern standards, Perfect Dark feels almost too simplistic, and it can be frustrating at times. The campaign and story are sometimes confusing too. But it's still a LOT of fun. If you played the original on N64 and liked it, I can honestly say that you'll have even more fun with this new port. Just a warning though: Online matchmaking takes forever, so it's best to play this game with either your friends or bots.

007: Quantum of Solace7
Nov 7, 2010
I didn't really like the multiplayer that much, mostly because I felt like it was just a Bond-themed Call of Duty knockoff. But the single-player campaign had enough exciting and fun moments that I can call Quantum of the Solace the best Bond game in quite a while. It's not able to compete with many modern shooters in terms of gameplay but it's fun, and it really lets you feel like you are James Bond. And that says something.

Assassin's Creed7
Oct 30, 2010
I'm going to start out this review by saying that Assassin's Creed is an extremely popular game, and one of my favorite games that I own. It also has some very obvious flaws. Missions get boring fairly quickly because of the lack of variety, which is something that every open-world game needs to have. But besides that, everything about this game is executed very well. Assassin's creed is set in the Middle East during the Crusades. Basically, you play as an assassin named Altair and go on missions to kill people. The way you do it is that you go to a town, and try to gather information on your target, and then plan a way to strike. However, that's pretty much all you do in the entire game. And believe me, it gets boring after a while. This is not a game like Fallout 3 that you can play for hours at a time and not run into repetition. You should probably take a break and do something else after each mission. Another small gripe I have is with the cutscenes. There are long sequences of dialogue between Altair and the other characters at regular intervals, in which the player can do nothing but pace around in circles like an idiot. The dialogue itself reminds me of boring conversations between the elderly, so you probably won't listen to most of it the first time. The story is actually pretty good if you learn to tolerate the long-winded cutscenes. But the voice acting is a mixed bag. I thought that it was very good, but some people might be put off by the fact that Altair speaks in an American accent. But personally, I thought it was a good decision by Ubisoft to do this, because Altair's background is mostly unknown. Some people may disagree though. However, there are several areas in which this game exceeds. The acrobatics are very fun to perform. It is an absolute blast to watch Altair run, leap and climb across the rooftops. The combat, although limited, can be fast paced and fun if you play it right. The main assassinations are brilliantly designed for the most part, although many of them have fairly long cutscenes to go with them. But like I said, this is a small problem. Assassin's Creed is an amazing game in my opinion, but it's not for everyone. I recommend it to anyone that likes good games and has a good amount of patience.

Halo 38
Oct 30, 2010
Halo 3 doesn't change the formula by much but the things it adds, like forge and improved matchmaking, are enough to make it worth a purchase. Just don't expect to have your mind blown if you already played Halo 2, as the campaign and main game mechanics are almost identical.

Fallout 39
Oct 30, 2010
One of the best Western RPGs to come around in a long time. Even if the combat could have felt more refined, there are just so many fun things to do in the unique world. The quests are all very diverse and allow for many different options on how to play them out. Also most of the DLC for this game is worth purchasing (except for Mothership Zeta.) People can debate whether or not this game is better than Oblivion but I think they are each equally good in their own ways.

Banjo-Tooie9
Oct 21, 2010
A great sequel which you'll love if you had even the slightest bit of interest in the original Banjo-Kazooie. Sure, the levels can be a bit confusing sometimes but that's just because they aren't half as linear as the areas in many modern games. Banjo-Tooie takes actual thinking to progress, which is something that can't be said about a lot of games these days. Anyway, it's a really great title that I highly recommend.

Banjo-Kazooie9
Oct 21, 2010
A real classic. To be fair this game has a few small annoyances but none of these will really bother you if you're experienced with old-school gameplay styles (like me.) It's right up there with Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 on my list of great N64 games, possibly even surpassing both of them because it's just so much fun. Ignore the negative reviews like the one from Eurogamer if you love older platformers, because Banjo-Kazooie is one of the best.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands8
Oct 17, 2010
If you are not sure whether or not to buy this game, let me just say that if you loved the original Sands of Time trilogy, you'll love this game too. In the early sections of the game it may seem like it offers nothing new to the series but stick with it. Once you start getting the elemental powers the game really picks up, and you'll have an absolute blast. My only real complaints are that the combat is a little bit too hack-and-slashy, and the main story mode is fairly short. Still, it's great to see the old Prince back instead of the idiot from the 2008 PoP, and it's really nice to see that his acrobatics are still as awesome as ever.

The best game in the entire series. This is a great installment to the Halo games. Anyone who disagrees probably just doesn't appreciate the formula, which can be just as intense as COD with next to no frustration factor. Metroid Prime Trilogy10
Sep 3, 2010
A great compilation of three awesome games. If you've never played a Metroid Prime game before, this is by far the best way to experience them. And if you have played the games, the new motion controls and other additions to Prime 1 and 2 make this worth a purchase. It's too bad they couldn't have added more to Prime 3, like possibly some sort of expansion, but Prime 3 was still a great game when it came out and still is a great one here. I give my highest recommendations.

Red Dead Redemption9
Aug 30, 2010
To whoever gave this game a negative review: what have you been smoking? Red Dead Redemption is a masterpiece of entertainment. Maybe it won't cater so much to the hardcore shooter crowd as it does to fans of exploration games, but that's not a flaw. It's a matter of taste if you don't like it. I personally enjoyed the majority of the missions, and although I will admit there was a bit of repetition in some parts of the game, I found that it was a massive and rewarding experience.
The only thing I didn't really like was the multiplayer. It's not technically bad, it's just that I feel as if there could have been a lot more done with it. But that doesn't overshadow the awesome campaign. 9/10.

Army of Two6
Aug 25, 2010
A simplistic and generic shooter. The unique things that the game attempts to do aren't done very well, and its main gimmick is just that enemies choose to attack the bigger threat when attacked by multiple players. This is something that has been done before in much better games, like Gears of War for example. The Locust will attack whichever enemy they see first, but if the other player starts firing at them, they will return the shots. However, Gears of War has better things going for it than just that. In Army of Two, well, that's the entire game. The concept of "turning invisible" when one player has the attention of the enemies is just stupid also, because one player having a big gun would never make trained soldiers forget entirely about the other. And don't get me started on the story and characters (annoying).
Rent if it seems like it would be your thing, but don't buy if you expect great things.
Xbox 360
