I love these crazy artsy fartsy documentaries. Some are not as good as others, but this one works. Baseball can be tedious and boring to watch sometimes, but when you insert the right characters into the plot it can be magic. These players are all major leaguers but when they are called upon to play for a purpose higher than just money they come together in a way that shrugs off all the stereotypes. When they visit the state of Israel they bond in ways far more important than baseball. Go see this and smile.

In sports sometimes you hit a shot or do a play that it is so bad that turns out good, well this movie proves that old adage is not just relevant on a sports field. I saw this movie because of the premise, and did not see any reviews beforehand, but let me tell you that as filmaking, it is just off. So go see this movie for good old fashioned scoffing and snickering as you would a Mystery Theater 2000 type bad sci-fi movie. I am sure the effort to make a good movie was there, but it did not make it.

I really wanted to like this movie but in the end it just felt cold and sterile kind of like space I guess. The visuals are cool and the cast is great so you might want to see it just for that. If I was trying to be funny you could say that in space no one can hear you yawn.

I have never seen the PBS Series but it has lasted a long time for a reason, people like it. I can count on one hand how many times an audience has clapped at the end of the showing of a movie recently, my audience did. So if you are thinking about going and have never seen the series, I would say go for it. It is full of fun if you just sit back and wonder what it was like to live like this 100 years ago. That kind of escapism is what movies are all about. If you think in those terms - you will go away happy.

This is a fun art house movie (we call it artsy fartsy) full of New York character and vibes. If you look closely you can see all kinds of subplots and scene comparisons. But like a trip to New York which can be a lot of fun and is interesting you do have to put with some odd moments. This movie has them, but if you want a nice afternoon out and see a fun movie about the theater life and how people deal with life in the weird lane - this movie works.
