The premise sounds vaguely familiar... But The Tunnel still delivers on its nasty twists. [17 Jun 2016, p.63]

The action is well-directed, and the cat-and-mouse games well-written, but the Truth Terrorist is never glamorized. This individual, along with their journalist mouthpiece, might play to some of the baser, uglier aspects of humanity, but The Tunnel dilutes that bile with its multilingual setting and multicultural cast.

Having seen both versions of "The Bridge" I can say "The Tunnel" is by far the best one. The Scandinavian version is good maybe a 7. The American version is okay, maybe a 5. This version is tighter and has cut away the superfluous fillers like: how autistic is she? The acting is excellent and the changes in the story work to make it a much more enjoyable program. American TV is still learning that more is not always better.

I loved "The Bridge" (the American version of the show set on the US/Mexican border - aired on FX), so it's great seeing the same basic story moved to the English/French border. I love the two leads - not sure how much I understand the female cop's situation - humorless/deadpan but NOT on the spectrum? Just feels a little odd. But the acting is terrific, and it just shows the strength of the original Danish story.

For those who come to The Tunnel fresh, the story is still intriguing and amusingly outré, but there’s less of a sense of urgency in the direction, which makes some of the more outlandish plot twists more difficult to gloss over. ... Ms. Poésy is fine as the clipped Frenchwoman who might have Asperger’s syndrome, but Mr. Dillane carries the show as the rumpled British Everyman.

The first episode is serviceable but offers little that would persuade viewers who’ve already seen another adaptation to commit to this one, because, frankly, there’s not much new to see.

The Tunnel is crisply staged, well-acted, but only mildly diverting. It's hard to shake the sensation that we've been here too many times before, and often to greater effect.

Hello!! To the reviewers who note that the plot seems familiar as well as one shining star who seems to know it was done once before, this is the THIRD iteration of this plot in the last 10 years or perhaps less. The first involved a bridge between Denmark and Sweden (excellent) and the second a bridge between the U.S. and Mexico at El Paso/Juarez. After one episode, this time around seems OK except that it's hard for me to get over the laziness of those involved in bringing it to the screen again. Maybe think of a new story?
