Domingo is joined by a phenomenal ensemble that includes one of the best turns from the timeless John Ortiz, a great Deon Cole, a captivating Alison Wright, a sharp Bradley Whitford, and excellent character actors abound. .... A thriller like "The Madness" only works if we believe the journey of its protagonist, and Domingo completely closes the sale. We don't just root for him to succeed, we're on this ride with him, strapped into the rollercoaster, as startled as he is by each subsequent twist and turn.

The show sometimes gets goofy in depicting the personalities and peccadilloes of each faction. Still, it mostly succeeds, on the strength of Domingo’s performance, Muncie’s complexity, and, above all, the visceral sense of contemporary chaos and futility it channels.

This could have been a taut action/thriller movie. Instead it devolves into a hot mess that stretches for 8 episodes. Along the way, it makes "statements" about racism, Black family life, law and order, media misinformation, corporate and political corruption, and of course, violence. The characters become caricatures, and the plot becomes so convoluted that it is hard to maintain interest until the ending that we all knew was coming.

One of the current pop culture curses is the proliferation of "mid" TV series that are basically bland blends of popular genres, issues and approaches. This series is yet another. Coleman Domingo plays a CNN pundit who finds himself embroiled in a massive conspiracy that results in him being hunted for murder. The first 15 minutes, when the initial killing is revealed, is the only real action moment. After that there's lots of typical cat-and-mouse activity dragged down with continual family issues (got to have that personal emotional conflict). Domingo and the rest of the cast are good, but there's not much original or exciting to work with. This is yet another quickly-forgotten, logarithmic-derived thriller that lacks much thrill.

Ultimately, Netflix's The Madness is another welcome dose of realism in a genre that can sometimes rely too heavily on fictional agencies and unbelievable plot devices instead of leaning into our existing political and economic malaise. Every one of its pieces comes together to successfully create a poignant, thrilling, highly watchable series.

While the material sometimes flounders, "Madness" offers him the kind of star vehicle he deserves, in which the camera almost never leaves his deeply expressive face. When the plot or other actors falter, Domingo is there to save the day, even if Muncie can't save himself.

He [Colman Domingo] and The Americans alum Alison “Poor Martha” Wright, playing a fixer for the bad guys, keep things fun for a while. But ultimately, there’s not quite enough madness to go around.

Much like the protagonist in a psychological thriller, though, The Madness slowly loses its own sense of reality as it gets deeper into the mystery. Things become notably more far-fetched in the second half of the show’s eight episodes.

Its commentary is fatally muddled. There are so many logical holes, so much unclear, that “The Madness” can frustrate. Conspiracy thrillers are like boats: Too many holes, and they sink.

A California Wet Dream. Imagine a spy thriller that believes all the nonsense posted on reddit. It's a real shame: this show is downright creepy. But the sheer **** up race-this race-that mentality turns it into a comedy. Pennsylvania is filled with good folks, but this show can't accept that.

Perhaps the topic is important for the US audience. But the script quality is very poor, naive even, with lot of cliches.

What's with this labored attempt at racism and disappointingly stupid plot lines? Sure, some talented actors, decent production values — but nothing to salvage this surprisingly silly hate-mongering, divisive claptrap. Cui bono?

Stupid show. I genuinely think it was written by AI. The writing is so bad and the storyline is so filled with plot holes and unrealistic moments that this show is actually unwatchable. The acting isn’t great either, some very wooden performances in a lot of scenes. Don’t waste your time.
