Après son esclandre qui a mis fin à ses nombreuses années chez Top Gear, l’inénarrable Jeremy Clarkson a su rebondir et emmener avec lui non seulement ses deux comparses de toujours mais également le concept entier de la célèbre émission dont il est l’instigateur et le pilier central. Ainsi, chez Amacon et après quelques modifications de détails, le plus cinglé des animateurs britanniques repart sur les chapeaux de roue pour de nouvelles saisons de ce Top Gear alternatif rebaptisé « The Grand Tour »… La joyeuse équipe continue donc de faire ce qu’elle sait… faire de mieux, c’est-à-dire n’importe quoi… pourvu que cela touche de près ou d’assez loin à la conduite sur quatre roues. L’humour de la perfide Albion est toujours aussi ‘spécial’ et le trio a encore nombre d’idées complètement dingues, comme une bataille navale avec des voitures (sic !) ou un Koh Lanta dans le désert avec des buggys de carnaval… entre deux reportages plus (ou moins) « sérieux » sur des Aston et des Rolls bien **** Stig n’est plus là mais habilement remplacé par ‘the American’, un gros beauf amateur de nazecar qui fait péter les temps sur le ‘nouveau’ circuit (encore plus bidon que l’ancien !) au volant de ces ‘maudites’ voitures européennes ! La partie des invités est quelque peu revue elle aussi mais… c’est une suprise, car ils sont encore là d’une certaine façon, si, si… Les « news » déjà pas piquées des hannetons sont remplacées par les « conversation streets » et poussent encore plus loin la mauvaise foi et l’ironie, déjà omniprésentes. Les dernières saisons sont davantage des ‘émissions spéciales’ à thème qui consistent à faire encore plus n’importe quoi, n’importe où avec des chignoles sorties d’one sait où… mais avec aussi encore plus d’ironie !Comme dans la précédente formule Top Gear, ce triumvirat regonflé à bloc se gauffre encore souvent avec délectation dans un mauvais goût qui fait lever les yeux au ciel. En roue libre tels qu’ils sont désormais, toutes les pitreries possibles sont à leur portée, pour le meilleur et pour le pire. On en rit plus souvent qu’on ne s’en offusque, car ce n’est pas une émission sur les bagnoles en fait : c’est du grand spectacle à l’anglaise, aussi désopilant que grotesque, parfois horripilant, parfois pathétique mais toujours… unique dans son genre !

Truly excellent show. Each season getting better than the last as they iron out the kinks, but even the lesser episodes are still better than most shows. The better episodes (most of them) being seriously great.

three presenters that left top gear on its peak and took their experience and quality and made a gem of a series that everyone with classic humor should enjoy

If you are a fan of Topgear (pre Clarkson's removal by the BBC) then you will like The Grand Tour. It's got a higher budget and better shot overall. The best episodes are the specials - with the usual crazy adventures. Not so much of a fan of "Converstaion Street", felt all a bit scripted. This is the worst problem with The Grand Tour compared to old Top Gear; The feeling of everything being scripted is a theme of The Grand Tour. The fact that old Top Gear had this feeling of more impromptue events and dialogue, even if that feeling is misplaced. That is why The Grand Tour is not a good as top gear. I love the charisma between the 3 presenters, but it just isnt what it used to be. Now we are at season 4 and its starting to feel a bit tired, the team need to think of somthing to spice it up or it's lifespan may be coming to it's end. Having said that, i still love James, Jeremy and Hammond. Lets hope they find a way of putting life into this series again!

The Grand Tour is an excellent show featuring neat cars, comedy and fun travel adventures across the world. Clarkson, Hammond and May never fail to entertain and keep the spirit from their Top Gear days alive and well.
