It’s thrilling and funny and just so slightly moving in places, as it always is. That’s Reacher. You’re in very large, very safe hands.

Don’t click on Reacher for subtlety or surprises. It verges on self-parody at times, but remains viscerally thrilling and a whole heap of fun.

Best reacher season by far. Feels like the production/writing/direction/editing has peaked here. The genre is quite specific though with 90's 80's Schwarzenegger level comic book larger than life action mixed with A tier writing, so be sure that's why you're here first! In that sense, this is the best a TV show could be in 2026!

It’s not complex. It’s not Proust. But boy it is fun.

If your enthusiasm waned with S2 and S3, this might be the return to form you’re waiting for. If this show has held you rapt the entire time, you’re about to be bouncing on your seat cushions.

The Travers Take
Alan Ritchson is back as the hulking Sherlock Holmes for a fourth season of head bashing that’s the best yet. Any arguments?

It suffers slightly from tropey TV-style showdowns and exposition dumps that don’t quite feel in sync with its literary origins, but its steady supply of bodies, crunching bones, and badass one-liners still left me content.

All the basic components for success are here in Season 4: an interesting setup, Reacher in his element, a motivated baddie, reliable allies, plenty of dead meat for mangling, etc. It’s just not much fun, and the writing and acting are occasionally so bad that it can make a person almost embarrassed to watch.

Best show ever. There is nothing like it. Reacher is one the best characters in fiction

This season is a little confusing, but it still turns out great. The eps where Reacher was hunted and broadcast all over the news have great camera work, and so does the fight. The characters have their own story, so it's great because all of them have purpose. Overall, it's not bad.

1st season packed a punch, mostly thanks to being something fresh & the original material was one of the best Lee Child's works. Season 4 is dull, simple and repetetive. Also - a 2026 show and secrets are stolen by an employee via an USB stick? Really? This is something that might've worked 10 years ago, not today. But back to the point - I just didn't buy the story at all. I was excited for season 2, interested in 3 and surprised the 4th has premiered. Won't care for 5th.

This show has progressively gotten worse since its first season. Jack Reacher has become more and more of a charmless, sociopathic murder hobo. He’s been stripped of all of his character traits save for his deadpan quips and his impulsivity. When combined with a cast of unlikable, stupid side characters who go from one cartoonish action scene to another, I’m left feeling like I’m watching a bunch of smelly fish flailing on an equally smelly subway train.

Final Update - season over: - First thought... thank goodness THAT is over. What a horrible, horrible show. But yes - I watched it and can't tell you why (much like watching an accident unfold in front of you I guess? - Alan Ritchson is a good Reacher... if you've read the books you GET that he is a great Reacher. The issue isn't Ritchson. Now Reacher is stiffer and walks like he has a stick somewhere - and this is worse than Season 1. In fact - Season 4 has much better actors than season 3 (which is still worse than season 4 but that's a pretty low bar). The writing is horrible... need a cliche' - it's there. Need wooden, stiff and stupid dialogue, it's there. need to turn at best a 4 episode show into an 8 episode show by stuffing in chase scene after fight scene after chase scene after fight scene with some meaningless pontificating in between - it's there. And certainly we have to buy into that there are 2 asian women who weigh maybe 200lbs between them able to beat up on Reacher? WHy - WHy would the producers want that? And the Jacob character - what a waste. There was no purpose for him - and it just became more and more frustrating watching the production team try to find a reason for him in the script... geez buddy - grow a pair. So -for those who wonder - Tom Cruise **** as Reacher... only an incredibly vain person (ie: cruise) could think he could play the Reacher from the books... that said the movies (while not good) - were better than seasons 2,3,4. (I actually liked Season 1)... Oh - if you do want to watch it - then just have your ffwd button ready... anytime there is a fight scene (and there are waaaaaay too many) - if you skip about 5 minutes once fight starts - you'll get through the tedium and won't miss anything. I got through S4E08 (56 mins length) in about 35 minutes and it was better than if I'd slogged through endless fight scenes... And the end - oh my - make sure you check all the boxes and wrap everything up Hollywood style... of course there is nothing connecting these scenes... just making sure we get closure... ... if you read the books - you'll understand that isn't what ever happens - and it makes the character that much better... now I'm hoping Reacher just stays away... Now - I know enough to stay away from the made up "Neagley"... - same production team/writers/directors as this mess (reacher) - the Neagley character is AT BEST a very minor character in the books... so if this production team can completely mess up a great book character - just imagine how much they can mess up a character without any book behind them? Update - through Episode 5: - Ok - we get it - Reacher is ALWAYS going to be surrounded by bad guys or be in an impossible situation that he CAN'T possibly get out of. And of course the bad guys are ALWAYS GOING TO UNDERESTIMATE HIM... yeah - that horse is dead. Maybe if that happens a couple times in a series that is ok. In Season 4 - we are getting HUGE get-away (and very unbelievable) scenes 3-4 times AN EPISODE. While this may be thrilling for the producers/directors/writers... it is actually VERY BORING for those of us who have to watch it. ... So while I'm still enjoying Season 4 much more than season 3 (unwatchable) and season 2 (ok - at best)... at this point in the season (episode 5) - it is going downhill very fast. At what point will producers/directors/writers ever understand that MORE is boring... I came to season 4 with strong hesitation as season 3 was unwatchable. So far I am very pleased. Hopefully it will stay at this level for the entire series. Keep in mind - the plot, believability and dialogue are always going to be passable at best in these shows but it comes down to whether we are buying in to the Reacher character and in Season 4 - we do. Season 4 so far is tracking with a similar tone to the books (note: I haven't read the book for years so I can't say how close the show is to the book for season 4, season 3 wasn't even close). The books - are entertaining - almost a guilty pleasure but you aren't reading them for the scintillating dialogue or plot... you are just all in on Reacher and if Season 4 can continue doing that - this should be fun. Oh- so far the supporting cast is much much better than season 3 - but then - the bar was pretty low.
