Everything about Adults: the performances, the script, executive producer Nick Kroll’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role—snaps into place this year, resulting in a hilarious season two. Rarely has a modern TV comedy demanded the opportunity to try 22 episodes per season.

The work speaks for itself, with fast-paced stories and incredibly timed jokes that feel like the most natural thing in the world. Adults season 2 is a true must-watch.

“Adults” finally has its own momentum, largely generated by a cast whose rapport obviates the need for any sweeping statements about their generation.

In its second season, Adults grows past the awkward phase of imitating a hangout sitcom to more confidently function as a great little hangout sitcom.

With better, more refined writing and performances that feel even more confident and lived-in, Adults achieves something that few shows do by improving in its sophomore season.

The shift feels like the show finding its footing in a more traditional sitcom register. .... But we can get to know the characters only so well when they’re doing their best not to know themselves.

Adults may not possess the alchemic magic of its forbears, but its promising second season suggests that—much like its quintet of lovable idiots—maybe the best version of itself has yet to come.
