Everything about Adults: the performances, the script, executive producer Nick Kroll’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role—snaps into place this year, resulting in a hilarious season two. Rarely has a modern TV comedy demanded the opportunity to try 22 episodes per season.

“Adults” finally has its own momentum, largely generated by a cast whose rapport obviates the need for any sweeping statements about their generation.

Adults definitely starts out a bit frantic, and the characters a bit cartoonish, but there is more than enough that’s funny about this group of friends that makes us want to spend more time with them.

Adults may not possess the alchemic magic of its forbears, but its promising second season suggests that—much like its quintet of lovable idiots—maybe the best version of itself has yet to come.

It’s fitfully funny, though half the cast is acting for the cheap seats and could do with dialing their performances down to, say, 11. Mostly, though, it makes you think of how many, many efforts there have been to reproduce what worked on “Friends.” .... [Charlie] Cox is warm and funny in the part (get this man a rom-com role), and the ultimate payoff to his arc feels fitting. More unusually for “Adults,” the plot gives the show something meaty to say about being young and seeking comfort in the wrong places. There may still be gold in these hills after all.

If Adults shares one thing with today’s young people, it’s a formless, ambient sense of anxiety. Perhaps that will diffuse if the show is given time to grow, and these young adults learn what most twentysomethings do: in the game of winning friends and influencing people, one needn’t try so hard.

I have been struggling to find a new comedy for a long time, and this show is it! They take the classic "friends living together after college," break it open, and make it something entirely fresh and new. I watched it all in one sitting and have been telling everyone I know how amazing it is. Need a season 2!!!

Cons: Sitcoms should NOT have only 8 episodes. While Adults was still able to capture the magic and vibes of popular sitcoms from the past, the only 8 episode seasons have been holding it back from being great. For example, some of the slow burn romances came together too quickly. I can hardly call them slowburns in that case. They’re technically fast burns. If the seasons had more than 8 episodes, these “slow burns” would have truly been earned and more fleshed out. The potential of some of these slow burn romances is so great that I could see some of these pairings being iconic if the darn show was just longer. But instead the binge model killed the hype and most people have already moved on from Adults left wanting more. Pros: When I first heard about this sitcom, I thought it would just be some more corporate cringe gen z slop. However, I was proven wrong. Somehow, this show managed to capture the charm of early 2000s sitcoms despite being set in the modern day. The characters were actually endearing in a way that I didn’t expect. I do have to say though, despite being a sitcom, I did not laugh a whole lot. It wasn’t really that funny, and yet I still had a fun time watching for some reason. I guess not all sitcoms have to make me constantly laugh to still really enjoy them, but I know everyone might not feel the same way about this. I would still give this show a chance though even if the “not really funny” part turns you away. Regardless, it’s still a good show. You will see what I am talking about when you watch it.

This brisk little comedy puts five Gen-Z “friends” together in one house while they deal with life, jobs and relationships. This has been done before, so it’s up to the writing and performances to make this series stand apart. The showrunners are 2 longtime writers from “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and they manage to drop one or two real laughs per ep, while keeping the energy full of cheeky style and anxious energy. The cast of relative newcomers creates characters that are enjoyable, although a bit more individual background might have added some emotional depth. It doesn’t seem like that’s what they’re going for here. It’s more about a lightweight twentysomething comedy with social satire and touches of farce delivered by a likeable cast.

All the characters are beyond annoying. They are supposed to be 24 all of them look 30 or older. At 24 this is the biggest group of losers I have ever seen. Not sure who is giving this awful show good reviews
