Wake

Though the characters are not particularly interesting in themselves, their dynamic remains consistently engrossing.

Because much of the dialogue exchanged between the brothers and some of Kyle’s auditory flashbacks allude to situations that aren’t clarified until over sixty minutes of the film have passed, there’s strong motivation to pay attention.

The situation plays out in a haze of shouting and debauchery so excessive that it becomes silly. The movie looks great and sounds great--apart from what the people in it do and say.

A dysfunctional drama.

Instantly forgettable film.

Fraught with sophomoric lost-innocence metaphors and schematic oedipal tensions.

Watching Wake is akin to listening to anonymous neighbors argue about matters you know nothing about -- nor care about. You only wish they'd shut up.
