Reynolds is the best thing about Van Wilder.

Studded with Lampoon/John Hughes anachronisms.

Van Wilder is a new college classic with a great script and some pitch-perfect comedic delivery from Reynolds. It echoes 'Animal House' like nobody's business.

The laugh-out-loud jokery is in short supply, and Reynolds and Reid's kicky charm only goes so far. Bluto Blutarsky, we miss you.

Even by teen gross-out movie standards Van Wilder makes "Sorority Boys" look like "Some Like It Hot."

A very funny movie ... in some alternate universe, maybe.

Reynolds and Reid's white-bread romance begs to be left on the cutting-room floor, but then again, so does just about every other scene in Van Wilder, which distinguishes itself only in featuring a level of ejaculate rarely found outside of hardcore porn.

This is the sort of low-grade dreck that usually goes straight to video -- with a lousy script, inept direction, pathetic acting, poorly dubbed dialogue and murky cinematography, complete with visible boom mikes.

This movie had some funny moments most notably with the Indian guy. Otherwise the movie bored me to shreds. The story seemed to have fit perfectly well into the movie of him being in school for 7years as there are many students in school for the fun of it.

There are three reasons why this movie works: Ryan Reynolds, Kal Penn, and James R. Bagdonas (the director of photography). The script is bad, the direction is bad, the chemistry between nearly everyone (except Kal Penn and Ryan Reynolds) only works because of the phenomenal performance by Ryan Reynolds. This is a script written by people that never went to college, for people who have not yet been to college. The first 30 minutes of this movie are entertaining, but the last hour is AGONIZING to get through. It is, however, the most National Lampoon-type film I have yet seen--even more so than Animal House, but not as enjoyable.

I’m pretty sure I enjoyed this a lot more when it first came out. But I could not stand Tara Reid’s character. Nothing about her is believable, nothing.

Frat boy comedy at its very worst in a movie that fails to illicit even a handful of chuckles, yet alone laughs, throughout its running time. When you find yourself yawning through boredom at a 'comedy' something has gone wrong.
