What really grabs your attention about Undead, however, are the effects. For a movie budgeted under $1 million, the Spierigs have done an amazing job putting together believable visuals.

Dallas Observer
Initially artsy, then campy, then tense, it would have worked better if writer-directors Peter and Michael Spierig had kept everything serious and let the inherent absurdism of zombie attacks speak for itself without additional ironic comment.

TV Guide Magazine
There's nothing under the goofball gags and gushing gore, and its welcome is worn out well before it's over.

L.A. Weekly
Flesh-eating fish notwithstanding, Peter and Michael Spierig's low-budget schlock-horror parody brings precious little new to the undead genre.

Washington Post
The story is more undead than all of these revenant shufflers. And the orgy of gore and home-engineered special effects doesn't make up for the shortfall.

Chicago Tribune
If only they didn't cannibalize their source material so much, then take an extreme rule reversal just before the end credits, they might have achieved something original, rather than just a fan-fiction derivation of George A. Romero's canon.

Entertainment Weekly
On the level of a no-budget student film in which the shots barely match up into sequences. It's about as much fun as watching blood dry.

The gore is joyful in its entirety but tragically that is all that this film has going for it. The story is a bit confusing and boring. The acting is fine and there are some funny moments as well as some violent moments. This sadly fails to capture even half the spirit of Peter Jackson's early frolics in black comedy. Impressive considering the roots and background of this but otherwise mildly disappointing.

All the quality of a crappy straight to DVD zombie film. The performances here are pitiful, and Felicity Mason has the stupidest look on her face throughout this entire thing. It tries to be a horror-comedy, but lacks any horror or comedy of any sort. I'm a zombie fanatic who obsesses over all things zombie related, so when I say a zombie movie is bad that means it's BAD. Avoid this movie like you would avoid getting bit by a zombie.
