There’s emotional complexity, making it work for more than just its key demo.

This one is about 15 minutes too long. It could well have skipped the teen party at an enormous mansion and done with a less protracted misunderstanding. Other than that, it is a delightfully adorkable time.

It is amazing and I'm tired of pretending it's not. Lana is just incredible, so is Noah.

Every beat of the film might be obvious, but that doesn’t detract from the enjoyability of watching an indelible young heroine like Lara Jean figure out her own life and just maybe fall in love in the process.

Its heartwarming and clear-eyed approach to first love and the challenges of coming-of-age distinguishes it from its contemporaries.

Centineo is the big beating heart at the center of the somewhat reserved To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. He’s a lot like his character, bringing out the best in this love story.

Susan Johnson ensures this adaptation of the Jenny Han novel maintains a wistful, winsome view of first love, first scene to last.

First-time feature writer Sofia Alvarez’s attempt to shrink Han’s lengthy, largely internal, and culturally specific story into a 97-minute movie is, simply put, a botch job. Stilted and scattered and strangely cold in its cinematography, it’s a handsomely shot whole lotta nothin’.

An Endearing Teen Romance Grounded in the Tender and Indispensable Bond of Sisterhood.190406 (3.0)It was deeply touching and heart-wrenching to see the sisters love and support one another no matter what happened. Men always seem to turn out fine anyway. For these young women, each other was an irreplaceable sanctuary and protective fence they could never afford to lose. Directed by Susan Johnson and adapted from Jenny Han's bestselling novel, the 2018 teen romantic comedy "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" stars Lana Condor as Lara Jean Covey and Noah Centineo as Peter Kavinsky. While the plot is driven by the chaotic aftermath of secret love letters being accidentally mailed out and leading to a fake relationship, the narrative is anchored by the heartfelt dynamic among the Covey sisters, whose mutual loyalty and emotional resilience form the true heart of the film.

This is a very enjoyable teen romance film from Netflix. Unsurprisingly, it doesn't really do anything out of the box or original. You know what the arc of the story will be about 15 minutes in. However, it never really slips up or has any big cringe moments. It's well done, and if you are looking for a teen romance movie...this one isn't a bad choice.

Dear Jenny,
I am disappointed that Asian males were basically excluded in a novel written by an Asian female author. Your novel To all the Boys I've Loved Before doesn't contribute anything to changing existing stereotypes when it had so much potential to. Your novel glorifies the White Male Asian Female (WMAF) relationship, from Lara Jean's parents to the main plot of the story. It upholds the white supremacy and excludes Asian males as romantic options. What's worse is that your novels are targeted at teenage girls, so you're indoctrinating them with white worshiping attitudes from a young age. When your primarily female fan base grows up, they would socially exclude Asian males in favor of white males and propagate existing racial hierarchies in society. Why couldn't LG have a Korean father and a Caucasian mother? Why were none of the letters that LG wrote addressed to an Asian male? Your novel seems like one Asian woman's fantasy about dating white guys. Which is fine, but you should be more cautious of the societal impact and excluding an entire racial/gender group.
