The Offering leaves few horror devices unused.

The Offering, a muddled horror film, falls over itself incorporating as many genre elements as possible. The result is the cinematic equivalent of combining every paint color on a canvas: a murky mess.

[An] uninspired, nonsensical mishmash, which crudely cobbles together second-hand religious imagery, abrasively noisy jump-scares, and — for some reason — techno-phobia.

It inspires retrospective gratitude for the empty yet slick craftsmanship of someone like James Wan.

What it all adds up to is either laughably baffling or just plain laughable, depending on how much attention one has paid.
