Absolutely great adaptation of Dumas' novel! Love the intrigue and action! Cast is absolutely spot on and Caviezel is hands down the most unappreciated actor in our generation!

It's a fantastic story and a good period piece. There's a few anachronistic moments that made me laugh ("you need to get out, more").

An awesome film that is just so classic and so interesting. The cast does an excellent job with the film and the visuals are spectacular.

one of my favorite movies of all time. I understand that the book is better having read it myself but to say that this movie is any less for it is outrageous

While the scriptwriters took some liberties with the Dumas classic (and keeping in mind that no novel can translate perfectly to film), this version does an excellent job of telling a story that honors the original while making it accessible to younger audiences. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and have re-watched it several times.

Classic story with some logical mistakes, I mean some of the actions were too easy. But overall a good adaptation, especially the equipment was top.

I had already watched this movie in my childhood but just the last scenes which in turn has really enchanted me. Unfortunately I had stay didn't know the name of this movie for many years. After many years I watched the movie named "The Count of Monte Cristo" and I loved. We are quickly introduced to the historical background of movie , the year which it takes place, and, in a very discreet way, to the personalities of Edmond Dantes and Fernand Mondego. Both friends but opposed to each other. The following events are susteined and justified by the personalities and the occasion the characters are on. After that, we embarked on a journey full of well-built plans driven by just one goal: the revenge. The Count of Monte Cristo is the journey of a man who has been greatly wronged. (Henry Cavill young is so cute

It brings nothing new to the table (and it doesn't try to do), but this is a thoroughly enjoyable, well-executed old-fashioned swashbuckler that's, surprisingly, a lot richer than most of the numerous adaptations of Dumas's masterpiece. (7.5/10)

Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, this is the story of revenge Edmond Dantes, a man betrayed by his friends and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Directed by Kevin Reynolds, has a screenplay adapted by Jay Wolpert and has Jim Caviezel in the title role. This story is well known and is very good in film. Its an appealing story, with romance, good arguments for action and all that general public tends to like. Nevertheless, its not an action film, but a drama, focused on the destroyed life of a man and his thirst for revenge. The script is not brilliant, nor can we be tempted to compare it with the original book. But it does a competent job and transpose to the screen most of the major aspects of the novel, while adapting some points and bringing some new features that don't appear in the book, for dramatic purposes. In my opinion, the greatest sin of this script is the too much focus on Mondego, so that the revenge Dantés exerts on other three conspirators is hardly explained (one of Them ends up not even appear in the film). The main actors are Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce, respectively in the role of protagonist and the main villain. Both are good investments: Pearce can be annoying with his arrogant attitude and Caviezel gives his character a certain hardness, without losing kindness and sense of justice. But this is not one of the best films of the two actors. It was shot at very attractive locations, from a visual point of view, and has good visual effects and costumes. In short: it's a good movie, which easily appeals to everyone and fulfills its role to entertain and tell a story. However, is not brilliant or particularly remarkable.

Yes, it's a tad goofy at times and the accents are certainly all over the place, but with the O.G. of all revenge stories at the center of this particular swashbuckler, you end up with an ultimately satisfying motion picture. Indeed, it's Alexandre Dumas's masterfully staged tale of retribution and duplicity that helps keep the audience on the edges of their seats, but credit should be given to the screenwriter for compressing a thousand-page book into a single, coherent, cinematic narrative. The solid direction from Kevin Reynolds also helps anchor some of the larger set pieces and action sequences down to a consistently impressive level of realism. It also helps that you have Guy Pearce playing on of the douchiest characters in literary history - Count Fernand Mondego. Pretty solid flick overall.

Such superb acting, no CG, just pure good acting and directing. Why can't they make more movies like this. There is no weak link, a must see. The cast and crew should be proud to be part of this movie, it will go down in history. Must just see

Three words: "My favorite movie" and I'm definitely not into those categories of movies. I usually just watch comedy because things like "Revenge", "Betrayal", and "Love" are usually characteristics of a drama and I HATE drama. This movie is by far the most entertaining movie I've watched and I watch more TV than Al Bundy

If you are one of those types that find old english-like movies tenious then prepared to be amazed by how great this movie is! It comes off a little slow at first (appox. 10-15 minutes) but once the plot makes it's twist then suddenly you are going to be rooting for Dantes to seek out revenge! Possibly ladies will be rooting for him harder because of his handsome looks. In the very end, great lessons will be learned while you are busy having fun watching this movie!

The Count of Monte Cristo is a fantastic adaption of a classic slice of adventure literature. The performances are great and the directing is colorful. More importantly, the film has a handful of truly unforgettable scenes, chief among them: Guy Piece looking out over a peaceful horizon, deciding on his future... "You know I could never live in a world where you have everything and I have nothing." I get chills every time!

Bah, "The Count of Monte Cristo" is a movie that displays a violent tale of revenge into a ridiculously cheesy one. However I'll give credit for the excellent cinematography.

An epic tale of adventure, betrayal, love and revenge. There really is something here for everyone. Jim Caviezel, one of the most underrated actors of the past decade, delivered a superb performance in this film. This is my favorite movie of all time, so pardon the perfect score.

This movie is so old-school and adventure it actually feels like a real adventure movie unlike some of the knockoffs today. Also, any movie with good sword-fighting in it has to be good.
