Slapface can often be a relentlessly bleak experience, but the thematic resonance and surprisingly effective character dynamics comfortably offset any minor flaws.

Writer/director Kipp expands his short into a feature that at times struggles to elongate an otherwise poignant message, leaving other worldbuilding details behind in a way that undercuts structural integrity. I’m all for awareness, but wonky narrative stumbles aren’t ignorable.

Solid horror movie, creative and atypical. Reminds me of my marriage ^^ There's a double interpretation very well implemented,,except for a kid being able to take out several cops. Sure, it would be possible, but..

Slapface successfully creates an annoying main character. The boy stretched my nerves. Also, the Monster is too well-designed. But the main problem is the story, which is essential for me. It could have been fantastic work if it could create a good storyline.

Weaving an unsavory tale about isolation, bullying, and familial dysfunction, Slapface looms like an uncomfortable truth that is too desolate in tone.

The underlying theme is fine, but the film itself is too ambiguous for its own good.
The lines along which the story walks, ranging from psychodrama to horror, are not quite defined because the balance given by the filmmaker is not the best when he tackles them.
I wouldn't say that what it lacks is subtlety, but finesse. It tries, but in the end fails to leave a mark.
