Piggie

Proves that you don't need a big budget to make a dynamite film.

A movie refreshingly lacking in social graces, Piggie uses the transparency of video to x-ray the psyches of characters obsessed with the essence of things.

Crudely shot and edited, the film is most notable for the strong performances by its two leads.

With its exasperating camerawork, murky lighting - at least two scenes are near indecipherable - and interminable shots of Fannie gazing slack-jawed at the world, Piggie is a disappointing debut.

Pic's quirky-for-quirky's-sake antics are neither particularly coherent nor enjoyably incoherent.

Reilly's appearance in Piggie amounts to little more than a cameo, but he's lively and real in ways that the rest of Bagnall's cast is not. It's the material's fault.
