Don Coscarelli outdoes the humor of John Hughes in what feels like a more honest version of the gleeful sadism in Home Alone.

This entry has more overt humor than the other PHANTASMs, and some of it strays too far on the goofy side, but Coscarelli keeps the key plot and its attendant horrors anchored in commendable seriousness.

I actually really appreciate Phantasm 3. The cast does a pretty solid job. The story is interesting enough and there's enough going on throughout to keep you entertained. I'm shocked that I enjoyed it almost as much if not more so than the original.

This is definitely my least favourite of the franchise so far. It takes the mystery and arthouse horror tone of the first film, the big budget spectacle of the second film and flushes both down the toilet in favour of a mish-mash of influences from other films. I still enjoy it but nothing more than average. One thing they get right is the way that these films follow on from each other directly even though 8 years have passed, they do it really well. We’re sadly back to lower quality acting. The comedic tone in some scenes doesn’t feel right. I wish that it had stuck with a more serious tone. Enjoyable enough but nothing special unlike the first two.

After an average sequel Phantasm continue to become worst and cheaper at each installment. Part 2 wasn't good as the first one, but was still enjoyable and produced with a correct budget. Part 3 is simply the beginning of the end of the franchise, introducing useless characters and boring sequences at every turns. There's no production value and there's a huge lack of quality and originality. Overall very disappointing.
