To set expectations, it’s best to think of My Fake Boyfriend as two movies. There’s the gay rom-com, focused on Andrew, that Pride month viewers have presumably tuned in for, and then there’s an almost “Black Mirror”-ish comedy, centered on Jake, about a meddling techie who gets caught up in his best friend’s life.

Late-night stakeouts, dinner dates gone awry and greenscreen Cristiano blunders often make My Fake Boyfriend feel like a collection of skits and sketches strung together. Some are very funny and they are led by two very capable performers.

There's something comforting about the way in which My Fake Boyfriend doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. It's content living in its charming version of New York where everything works out in the end.

My fake boyfriend I feel this movie could have been better, way way better, because the entire story can best be described as Incredulous. The characters are mostly one dimensional, and this isn't on the cast but on the plot they have to work with. It's light-hearted and easygoing if you can forget how Incredulous the premise of the movie is. If you don't watch My Fake Boyfriend, I have to say, you're missing out on nothing.
