Milius

The movie is zippy and funny...and more emotional than the man himself would ever allow himself to be. It’s a triumph.

While not always penetrating the myths around the man, this is a hugely entertaining look at one of Hollywood's larger than life figures.

Enjoyable but incomplete-feeling bio-doc both celebrates the Milius myth and tries to undo the damage it did to his reputation.

[A] memorable, conventional account of a true maverick.

The film does approach Milius with a certain reverence, but it can’t disguise the fact that he’s a troubling, divisive figure: bull-headed, almost cartoonishly macho, staunchly right-wing and dangerously self-obsessed.

Fantasy invigorates reality in this fond retrospective of the director who embodied the renegade heart of 70s Hollywood.

[A] mildly engaging print-the-legend documentary.
