A surreal, endlessly creepy exploration of love and desire, with a terrific turn from Tatiana Maslany, makes for an exciting and unpredictable departure in Osgood Perkins’ oeuvre.

Part of what makes Perkins’ film so refreshing is the way it prioritizes its visceral effect on an audience over a desire to bend that story into a modern relationship parable. As clever as so many contemporary horror movies are, they often write toward theme rather than shooting toward immediacy.

Osgood Perkins has released three films in just two years since Longlegs (with a fourth apparently coming in 2026), i thought Longlegs was a genuinely great and distinctive horror experience, and The Monkey, released the same year, was solid and a lot of fun, because of that, i expected nothing less from Keeper, unfortunately, compared to those last two films, Keeper ends up being not only the weakest, but also not a very good one. The supernatural elements here are simply not as interesting or intriguing as i'd hoped, despite strong performances from the cast and some genuinely creepy creature designs that i really liked, the story and pacing never fully pulled me in, i could follow what was happening just fine, but i was rarely locked in or truly enjoying the experience, overall, the film felt more boring than engaging. In the end, Keeper isn't outright bad, but its story and pacing are deeply flawed, it's disappointing to say that this isn't third time's the charm for Perkins.

Perkins gets points for keeping the budgets rock bottom & showcasing interesting actors. This is a compelling watch, slow and druggy, until the ending which it definitely Does Not stick. Would make a smart double bill with similar-ish (but superior) movies like “Men”, “The Night House” or “Oddity”. Not designed for the sorts of fans that think the Conjuring movies are actually good. There’s enough here to sustain conversations/arguments on the car ride home.

The best bits are frightening, memorable and distinctive. Hit and miss then, but Keeper does at least further cement Perkins as one of the boldest independent voices in horror around.

While Keeper is not short on visual style or atmospheric tension, ultimately, it’s a tedious genre exercise undone by an undercooked narrative and its allergy to mystery.

Osgood Perkins’ latest dark trip has a powerful Tatiana Maslany performance and cool aesthetics to thank for keeping Keeper from getting completely lost in the woods.

There is some good stuff here: it looks beautiful, the score is flesh-crawlingly creepy and there are individual shots that will stay with you for weeks. . . Alas, these qualities are all but lost in a slush of nonsensical narrative, unintentional (or so it seems) laughs and characters who are introduced only to drift away like flotsam.

Osgood Perkins mistakes abstruseness for surrealism, and an oppressive atmosphere for palpable tension.

"Keeper" is a weak horror thriller that certainly has the Oz Perkins style and plenty of genuine chills, but the journey is more satisfying than the destination.

Me pareció una película regular. Tiene una idea interesante y algunos momentos que funcionan, pero en general no logra destacar demasiado. El ritmo a veces se siente irregular y la historia no termina de aprovechar todo su potencial. No es terrible, pero tampoco memorable.

After the commercial impact of Longlegs, Osgood Perkins began to occupy a curious space within contemporary horror: that of an “auteur” director who divides audiences, yet has found enough backing to continue creating with creative freedom. His new film, Keeper, arrives surrounded by expectation. The premise seems promising: a couple decides to spend a few days in an isolated cabin to celebrate her birthday. After the husband leaves, the character played by Tatiana Maslany remains behind and begins to face a sinister presence connected to the cabin’s past — and possibly to the relationship **** theory, this is fertile ground. Isolation, a toxic relationship, hidden past, folk horror. Elements that, when handled well, can generate a suffocating and intense experience. The problem is that Keeper rarely manages to turn these ideas into something cohesive. What could have been a disturbing study of emotional abuse and paranoia becomes a scattered film that flirts with symbolism but fails to sustain its own narrative.Keeper had all the ingredients to be an unsettling examination of toxic relationships and emotional isolation, using horror as its language. Instead, it delivers an uneven experience that begins with promise but loses itself in its own **** production context may help explain some of its issues, but it does not change the final result. The film feels as though it needed more time, more revision, and greater care in shaping its **** the end, it comes across as a project made in haste, sustained more by the director’s recent reputation than by the strength of the work itself. Perkins remains a filmmaker with a distinct identity, but Keeper makes it clear that style alone cannot carry a film. Without a solid foundation, even the most interesting ideas dissolve — leaving behind a pretentious, fragile, and easily forgettable feature.

Osgood Perkins ran out of ideas. 'Keeper' is an amalgamation of clichés and nonsense that forcibly attempts to comment on cycles of misogynistic abuse through a clumsy story about a couple whose vacation in a secluded cabin turns into a predictable nightmare. The exploration of this relationship is nonexistent; instead, the film throws gruesome images at the viewer repeatedly in an attempt to shock. The result is a pathetic attempt at “elevated horror”.

Very boring movie, when finally somewhat action starts and it gets close to being scary it solves itself also as fast and ends..
