Eureka

The genre trappings are familiar, but this isn’t any old horse opera.

Not only does the film successfully advocate for, and humanize, a populace that has been routinely silenced in popular culture, but it demonstrates that the destruction of these cultures has been emblematic of humanity’s extended downfall.

It’s a movie best received in a relaxed frame of mind. Because much of it is a slow burn, if there’s indeed a burn at all.

There’s too much to make it really work.

Ultimately, the film feels a bit misshapen.

Unfortunately, for all its daring, Eureka is often stultifyingly slow.
