Much like "Hamilton" on Disney+,Come From Away delivers a best-seat-in-the-house view, offering a moving, brilliantly shot and staged spectacle that brings that moment unerringly back to life.

To see Come From Away onscreen now — directed by Christopher Ashley, who won a Tony Award for his Broadway direction of the show — is to see a path to mercy and compassion off in the distance and wonder if we can still get there — or if it’s too late for us.

One of the best Broadway musicals ever. Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Watching Come from Away can restore your faith in humanity. I've seen it on stage twice, once on Broadway, and this filmed version captures all the emotions of the live experience.

This is a musical that tells a very interesting story about what happened to numerous flights worth of passengers that were forced to land in a previously little known Canadian town/area called Gander in Newfoundland. I certainly admire the locals who found themselves with literally thousands of people suddenly descending on their community, unsure how long they'd be forced to stay and unaware of precisely what had happened on that fateful day of 9/11 (2001). I'd actually heard a little about the story when it was discussed on the Jeremy Vine show on the radio many months ago and it interested me then, so I made a point of watching the musical film version when I got access to Apple+. This is very much like Hamilton - its a recording of a broadway show, its not a film adaptation of a musical or a musical film like 'La La Land' - its a case of watching the theatrical production from the audience's perspective pretty much (though we don't actually see the audience). Needless to say, if you don't like musicals then this won't be for you. It's a serious story and I suppose it could seem a bit weird to have it told in a upbeat sort of a way but there again, to be able to tell such a story with a positive angle to it, well to be able to talk about any event relating to 9/11 in a semi-positive way has to be a pretty big achievement. I quite liked how certain passengers were focussed on at times, how they got on with each other and tried to raise their spirits etc. Its a compelling story certainly, yes and I'd say if your interested in this then yes, I'd recommend it.

A musical about the aftermath of 9/11 may sound like an eat-your-vegetables chore, but Come From Away is as comforting—and as layered—as a plate of poutine.

There are, of course, countless prisms through which to examine the events of 9/11 and their lingering impact, but Come From Away offers one that is stirring and funny, moving but never mawkish. It’s a story that provides hope without turning its eyes from despair.

It turns out that the screen provides a surprisingly hospitable frame for a musical that is quite purely and unabashedly — at times even downright earnestly — a work of theater.

The stage magic here is the simplicity of the production — just characters in chairs, swaying in time to simulate a bus ride, singing as they do.

This amiable production’s temperature never rises above lukewarm: good sentiments are, unfortunately, difficult to dramatize, an issue compounded by a score that can feel like aural wallpaper.

It was like the writers of corner gas wrote a musical and lost all sense of subtlety. Chock full of cliches to keep your grandma laughing. I’m mad I watched this sentimental dreck.
